A day after recording three hits, Baez one-upped himself and posted his first four-hit effort of the year. Before Friday's outburst, the shortstop was batting just .167, but the two-game flurry has pushed that up to .207. Baez will need to keep stringing together performances like this to make his season-long stats look more acceptable, though at least he's showing some signs of life, and he's been known as a streaky performer in the past who can heat up quickly.

Flaherty was sharp as he lowered his ERA to 3.79 and picked up his first win of the season. Despite only having the one win so far, the righty has had a nice bounceback campaign to this point after posting a 4.99 ERA with the Orioles and Cardinals last year. Flaherty has been buoyed by a rise in strikeouts, as he now has an 11.9 K/9 this season, up from 9.2 in 2023. He'll look to keep rolling in his next scheduled outing, which is is penciled in for Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against Arizona.
Rogers has gone 0-for-9 and struck out five times across his past three games, so the Tigers will turn to Carson Kelly on Saturday in hopes of getting more offensive output from their catcher.

Lucas was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Thursday and will now join the Tigers organization. He'll look to impress with Toledo and earn a shot with Detroit's major-league roster down the road.

Carpenter knocked in two runs with a third-inning triple and added a two-run double to cap a six-run rally in the fifth. Miller received a hydrodissection procedure on the ulnar nerve in his right elbow earlier this week, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The procedure was to help with inflammation surrounding the nerve in Miller's elbow. He started the season strong with five scoreless outings, but he has taken the loss in two of his last four appearances, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two across three innings over that span. Tigers' Javier Baez: Will not be benched

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Monday that he has no plans to bench Baez, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
"He's going to play, a lot," Hinch said. Baez has again been one of the least productive regulars from an offensive standpoint in baseball, slashing just .167/.200/.222 with one home run over 135 plate appearances. He's hit only .223/.265/.346 since signing a six-year, $140 million contract prior to the 2022 campaign. Baez also has graded out poorly defensively in 2024 with minus-4 Outs Above Average, although he was plus-9 in OAA in 2023 and the Tigers still seem happy with his defense. Given that the underwhelming Zach McKinstry would represent their likely alternative at shortstop, the Tigers appear willing to continue riding it out with Baez in hopes that he can rebound to at least a competent level at the plate.
Tigers' Beau Brieske: Makes season debut Wednesday

Brieske tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to the Marlins. He allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out one.
Brieske was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Monday and made his 2024 debut for the Tigers in this one. The righty, who made 15 starts for Detroit back in 2022, worked exclusively in relief for Toledo, where he compiled a strong 2.95 ERA and 22:11 K:BB over 21.2 innings. However, as a former starter, Brieske may be able to give the Tigers some length from the bullpen for however long he sticks around.
