Pirates' Bubba Chandler: Treading water at Double-A
Chandler has a 4.13 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 29 strikeouts and 13 walks in 24 innings across seven appearances for Double-A Altoona.
Chandler has a 3.72 FIP and 3.70 xFIP, so he's been perfectly fine in a return to Double-A after making one start there to close 2023. The former two-way prospect has logged four-plus innings in three of his seven outings, as he has struggled to be efficient thus far (13 percent walk rate). He is the fifth-youngest pitcher with 20-plus innings at Double-A and turns 22 in September.

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Fans seven in win
Keller (4-3) allowed eight hits over six shutout frames Monday, striking out seven and earning a win over Milwaukee.
Keller faced traffic on the bases throughout the night but was able to dance around danger and keep the Brewers scoreless. He forced 13 whiffs -- his second-best total so far this season -- and threw 71 of 100 pitches for strikes. Of those 13, seven came via the fastball, which averaged 95.2 mph. Keller has seemingly turned a corner after a shaky opening month; he's allowed just one run while posting a 12:1 K:BB over 15 frames in his last two starts. Keller will carry a 3.93 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be on the road against the Cubs this weekend.

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Perfect day at dish
Reynolds went 5-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and two RBI in Monday's win over the Brewers.
Reynolds was unstoppable Monday. He had four hits through seven innings, including an RBI double in the third, before capping off his big night with a solo shot to lead off the ninth. He snapped a 13-game homerless drought, during which he registered an ugly .526 OPS. Reynolds improved his slash line to .256/.351/.427 with 17 extra-base hits and 19 RBI through 188 plate appearances.

Pirates' David Bednar: Notches eighth save
Bednar struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning to earn a save over the Brewers on Monday.
Bednar retired the middle of Milwaukee's lineup in order to finish off the 8-6 win. He's converted eight of his 11 save chances this season, including seven in a row. However, he's registered a 6.94 ERA over his last 12 appearances since blowing a save chance against Detroit on April 9. Bednar has given up just one run over his last five frames and appears to be settling back into his usual groove.

Pirates' Connor Joe: Back on bench Monday
Joe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.
Joe isn't quite an everyday player for the Pirates, but he's been one of the more productive hitters in a struggling lineup this season and is gradually starting to earn steadier playing time versus right-handed pitching. He'll take a seat against Brewers righty Colin Rea in the series opener in Milwaukee, however, as the Pirates trot out a starting outfield of Bryan Reynolds, Michael Taylor and Jack Suwinski from left to right. Meanwhile, Rowdy Tellez will draw the start at first base and Andrew McCutchen will serve as Pittsburgh's designated hitter.

Reynolds has struggled in his last 10 games, collecting only seven hits across 38 at-bats with no home runs and no RBI. He remains locked in as the No. 2 hitter in the Pirates' lineup and has a .267 xBA and .361 xWOBA, so a turnaround in production should be in order.

Chapman entered Sunday's game having turned in five consecutive scoreless appearances, though he had just an 8:5 K:BB in that span. Things fell apart for him in the 10th inning of Sunday's loss, as he allowed a leadoff single and then a solo home run two batters later. For the season, Chapman now has a 4.61 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 13.2 innings.

Pirates' Jack Suwinski: Swipes two bags
Suwinski went 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Cubs.
Suwinski entered the contest with one stolen base on the season, but he swiped second base twice during the extra-inning loss. The left-hander has almost exclusively started against right-handed pitching, with 107 of his 129 plate appearances coming against opposite-handed throwers. However, Suwinski is slashing just .129/.234/.304 against righties this season.

Pirates' Connor Joe: Delivers extra-inning HR
Joe went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Cubs.
Joe spearheaded the Pirates' comeback effort, plating Oneil Cruz on a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 10th inning. However, his long ball wasn't enough, as Pittsburgh trailed by three entering the frame. Joe has gone yard in back-to-back games, bringing his season total up to five homers in 134 plate appearances.

Falter didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Cubs, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out one.
Falter generated his third quality start of the campaign; however, he tied his season low in strikeouts and surrendered a homer for a fifth consecutive start. The long ball was a first-inning, two-run home run by Christopher Morel. During his last five starts, Falter owns a 4.13 ERA with 21 strikeouts across 28.1 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start during a four-game road series with the Cubs next week.

Pirates' Thomas Harrington: Returns from 7-day IL
Double-A Altoona reinstated Harrington (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Sunday.
Harrington opened the season on the shelf due to a right rotator cuff strain but has been given the green light to join the Pirates' Eastern League affiliate after one rehab start with Single-A Bradenton. He was sharp over his three-inning start for Bradenton on Tuesday, striking out three while allowing no runs on one hit and one walk.

Taylor will sit out the series finale while the Pirates roll out an outfield of Bryan Reynolds, Jack Suwinski and Connor Joe from left to right. Following his call-up from Triple-A Indianapolis, Gonzales had started at second base in the first two games of the series and went 1-for-7 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored. He'll give way to Alika Williams on Sunday, and the two could end up operating in a timeshare at the keystone until Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) returns from the injured list.
