  • Tigers' Matt Manning: Strikes out five in no-decision

Manning allowed three runs on nine hits across 5.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Monday against the Marlins. He walked one and struck out five.

Manning was recalled from Triple-A Toledo before the game, and he managed to limit damage despite being a tad too hittable. The five strikeouts helped the cause and continued a promising trend for the righty. Across 22.2 innings in the majors this year, Manning now has 22 strikeouts. He also has 24 strikeouts over 19 innings in the minors. For a pitcher who posted a 5.8 K/9 for Detroit in 2023, it's a step in the right direction. Manning should continue to start with Kenta Maeda (illness) out, and he's penciled in to take the mound again Sunday against the Diamondbacks on the road.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Allows two runs but earns win

Faedo (3-1) allowed two runs on three hits across 2.1 innings of relief but managed to earn the win in Monday's game against the Marlins. He struck out four.

Faedo wasn't at his sharpest Monday, but the righty still managed to earn another win out of the bullpen. He's been racking those up at an impressive but likely unsustainable pace, as he came into the season with only three total wins at the MLB level the last two years despite making 24 starts. Faedo has been solid so far, though his long-relief role makes his fantasy value somewhat unpredictable moving forward.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Notches 10th save Monday

Foley pitched a clean ninth inning with two strikeouts to record the save in Monday's 6-5 win over the Marlins.

Foley has emerged in a crowded bullpen as the preferred closing option, and he's looked good so far, converting 10 out of 11 save chances and posting a solid 2.20 ERA. The righty came into the season with just seven career saves at the MLB level, and it's no guarantee he holds onto the job all year with other capable candidates on the roster. However, Foley is the top Detroit reliever to target for the moment, and he should deliver good fantasy value if he keeps pitching like this.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Goes deep again Monday

Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 6-5 win over the Marlins.

After going the first 37 games of the season without launching any home runs, Torkelson has now blasted off in consecutive contests. Both home runs were two-run shots, and the 24-year-old could certainly keep it going, as he's shown the ability to hit long balls in bunches. Torkelson recorded a career-best 31 home runs last year, to go along with 94 RBI.

  • Tigers' Matt Vierling: Heading to bench Monday

Vierling is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

Though he's served as the Tigers' primary third baseman while Gio Urshela (hamstring) has been on the injured list, Vierling will begin Monday's game on the bench while Zach McKinstry receives a turn at the hot corner. Urshela appears likely to return from the IL later this week, so Vierling could soon be headed to a part-time or short-side platoon role.

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Remains on bench Monday

Rogers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

After starting three games in a row, Rogers finds himself on the bench for the second straight day. Though Carson Kelly is behind the plate Monday, Rogers still looks to be manager A.J. Hinch's preferred option at catcher.

  • Tigers' Beau Brieske: Recalled from Triple-A

The Tigers recalled Brieske from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Brieske has spent all of 2024 at Toledo, holding a 2.95 ERA and 22:11 K:BB over 21.2 frames. The right-hander has been used exclusively in relief for the first time this season but has gone multiple innings in eight of his 13 appearances, so he could offer some length to Detroit's bullpen.

  • Tigers' Shelby Miller: Placed on 15-day IL

The Tigers placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Monday with right ulnar nerve inflammation.

It's unclear how long the elbow issue might have been bothering Miller, but it could help explain his struggles lately -- he's allowing five earned runs over his last three innings. Miller will be eligible to return from the IL later this month.

  • Tigers' Ryan Vilade: Heads back to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Vilade to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Vilade went 2-for-9 at the dish during his brief time in the majors. He's headed back to Toledo, where he should see steady playing time at all three outfield spots.

  • Tigers' Matt Manning: Recalled ahead of Monday's start

The Tigers recalled Manning from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

He'll start Monday against the Marlins and should be set for at least a couple of turns through the big-league rotation while Kenta Maeda (illness) is on the 15-day injured list. Manning has been solid during his time with the Tigers this season, putting up a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings through his first three starts.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Launches first homer of 2024

Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Astros.

Torkelson finally broke through for his first home run of the 2024 season, launching a two-run shot off of Houston reliever Seth Martinez with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. After producing 31 home runs over 159 games in 2023, it took the first baseman 38 contests to go deep in 2024. Torkelson is now batting .224 with a home run, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored over those 38 games.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Another quality start Sunday

Flaherty (0-3) was tagged with a loss Sunday after he pitched 6.2 innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters in a 9-3 defeat to Houston.

Flaherty opened Sunday's contest by firing five scoreless innings before Kyle Tucker launched a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning. The Astros scratched across another run on him in the seventh frame before the right-hander's day came to an end with two outs in the inning. The performance marked his third straight quality start and sixth of the season over eight outings. Flaherty now owns a 3.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 48.2 innings in eight starts in 2024 and will look to earn his first win of the year in his next projected start Saturday on the road in Arizona.

  • Tigers' Kenta Maeda: Will need rehab assignment

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Sunday that Maeda (illness) will require a rehab assignment prior to returning from the 15-day injured list, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Maeda was placed on the IL on Saturday with a viral illness, and Hinch noted that the right-hander's ailment was significant enough to keep him from playing catch over the last few days since he made his last start Tuesday in Cleveland. Though the 36-year-old is eligible to come off the IL as soon as May 23, the fact that the Tigers are already planning on Maeda needing a rehab assignment suggests that it's not a lock that he'll be ready to go when his 15 days are up. Maeda had gotten off to a rough start to the season prior to landing on the IL, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 30.2 innings through seven starts.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Remains out at Triple-A

Jung isn't included in Triple-A Toledo's lineup for Sunday's game against St. Paul due to unspecified soreness, Brian Buckley of The Toledo Blade reports.

Jung sat out Saturday's 1-0 win over St. Paul in what was believed to be a rest day, but his absence from the lineup for a second consecutive day implies that he's dealing with a physical issue. The 23-year-old has been one of the top hitters in the Toledo lineup this season, producing a .282/.400/.524 slash line over 155 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Back in action Sunday

Malloy (undisclosed) will start at designated hitter and bat third for Triple-A Toledo in Sunday's game against St. Paul.

Malloy is back in action for Toledo for the first time since May 3 after missing more than a week with an undisclosed injury. The 24-year-old outfielder has maintained a .279/.424/.462 slash line over 132 plate appearances on the season.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Sitting for series finale

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Perez will take a seat for the series finale after he had started in center field in each of the previous four games while going 4-for-17 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Matt Vierling will replace Perez in center field.
