  • Luis Medina SP | OAK

Athletics' Luis Medina: Set for 45-pitch sim game

Medina (knee) is scheduled to throw around 45 pitches Wednesday in a simulated game at extended spring training, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The upcoming sim game will likely represent the final hurdle for Medina to clear in his recovery from a Grade 2 MCL sprain before he heads out on what will likely be a multi-start minor-league rehab assignment. With injuries mounting in the Oakland rotation, Medina should have a starting role with the big club waiting for him once he gets fully stretched out in the minors.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Visiting with team doctor

Bailey is being evaluated by the team doctor Monday to determine if his cold is related to a concussion he suffered earlier in the season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The Giants are operating with caution to ensure Bailey doesn't miss additional time. He'll be considered day-to-day until the club has more information.

  • Luis Matos RF | SF

Giants' Luis Matos: Set to see work in center field

Matos is expected to see work in center field for the Giants after being called up Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Matos will be a top option to see a sizeable workload in center field in the absence of Jung Hoo Lee (shoulder) according to manager Bob Melvin. The 22-year-old has produced an underwhelming .218 batting average with three homers, 17 RBI, 13 runs scored and three stolen bases over 31 games in Triple-A this season, but with Michael Conforto (hamstring), Jorge Soler (shoulder) and Austin Slater (concussion) all also banged up, he may see extended run in the outfield.

  • Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Starting Game 2 of twin bill

Parker will start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox.

This won't disrupt Parker's routine, as he was already scheduled to take the mound Tuesday. He'll get the ball for the nightcap after Trevor Williams toes the rubber in Game 1.

  • Giants' Jakson Reetz: Up with big club

Reetz was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of Monday's game against the Dodgers, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.

Reetz was called up to take the spot of Jung Hoo Lee, who was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier in the day due to a left shoulder dislocation. Reetz isn't listed in the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener, but he could see time behind the dish if Patrick Bailey (illness) struggles to return to health.

  • Jung Hoo Lee CF | SF

Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Placed on IL

The Giants placed Lee on the 10-day IL on Monday due to a left shoulder dislocation.

Lee dislocated his left shoulder when he ran into the outfield wall attempting to make a catch in the top of the first inning of Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Reds. With Lee set to be sidelined for an extended period of time, Tyler Fitzgerald is set to see a significant uptick in playing time, particularly in platoon lineups against southpaws.

  • Alex Wood SP | OAK

Athletics' Alex Wood: Getting shoulder evaluated

Wood has been sent back to Oakland to have his left shoulder evaluated, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Wood was dealing with shoulder soreness during his start in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Mariners, and the injury seems to be one that's been a problem for him for a while. A stint on the injured list would appear to be a distinct possibility for Wood, but the team is unlikely to make a decision on his status until his evaluation is completed. If Wood isn't able to take the hill for his next turn through the rotation this weekend in Kansas City, the Athletics would likely turn to Kyle Muller or Mitch Spence to start in his place.

  • Ken Waldichuk SP | OAK

Athletics' Ken Waldichuk: Slated for elbow surgery

Waldichuk will undergo left elbow surgery Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Waldichuk elected to have a more conservative procedure after being diagnosed with a UCL sprain and flexor strain last October, but he recently had a setback and will require another operation. The Athletics won't provide more details until Waldichuk's surgery is completed Wednesday, but the upcoming procedure promises to be more invasive and will likely prevent him from pitching this season.

  • Chris Flexen SP | CHW

White Sox's Chris Flexen: White Sox-Nationals postponed

Flexen and the White Sox won't play Monday against the Nationals after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Chicago, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday, with Flexen taking the mound for the first game. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 2-3 record over six starts this season with a 4.29 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 35.2 innings.

  • Nationals' Trevor Williams: Nationals-White Sox postponed

Williams and the Nationals won't play Monday against the White Sox after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Chicago, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday. Williams' next start will simply be pushed back a day to one half of the twin bill, and the White Sox will do the same with their scheduled starter for Monday, Chris Flexen.
