  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Stuck with second loss

Clevinger (0-2) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the White Sox were downed 4-2 by the Yankees. He struck out five.

The right-hander tossed 78 pitches (47 strikes) before exiting, failing to complete five innings for the third straight start since joining Chicago's rotation. Clevinger offers little fantasy appeal until he at least begins lasting long enough to qualify for a win, although the White Sox's struggling offense won't give him many opportunities for wins anyway. Clevinger will take a 5.56 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 11.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come next week in Toronto.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Shows improvement in second start

Clevinger allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Saturday.

Clevinger struggled mightily in his season debut Monday, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over two innings. The veteran looked much better Saturday, yielding just a fourth-inning run while cutting the free passes entirely out of his stat line. Clevinger needed just one more out to qualify for the win, but he was pulled for a lefty reliever after giving up a single to the final batter he faced in the fifth frame. Despite that minor disappointment, this was a promising outing considering his disastrous previous start, and it should help him as he works to push up his pitch count after missing spring training and signing with Chicago in early April.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Shelled in season debut

Clevinger (0-1) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over two innings against Tampa Bay. He had no strikeouts.

Clevinger looked rough in his season debut Monday against the Rays, generating just one whiff from his 54 pitches. It was the second time he has failed to generate a strikeout in a start during his eight-year career -- first done Sept. 24, 2023 against Boston. Clevinger's next start is scheduled against his former team, Cleveland, at home this weekend.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Recalled ahead of season debut

The White Sox recalled Clevinger from Triple-A Charlotte ahead of his start Monday against the Rays in Tampa.

Clevinger will make his season debut for the White Sox after getting built back up in the minors upon re-signing with Chicago on a one-year deal April 2. The right-hander allowed three runs on 10 hits and a 7:3 K:BB in 7.1 innings during his two starts with Charlotte. Clevinger threw 71 pitches in his most recent outing, so he likely won't be asked to handle a full workload Monday. He collected a 3.77 ERA and 110:40 K:BB across 131.1 frames covering 24 starts for the White Sox in 2023.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Could make next start in majors

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol hinted Wednesday that Clevinger could be added to the 26-man active roster next week to make his next start with the big club, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. "We're expecting him to join us here pretty soon. He felt good [Tuesday]," Grifol said of Clevinger. "The news from our trainers was he's excited about how he felt, he's excited about how he threw the ball. We'll assess it, but I would expect him here shortly."

Because he didn't go through a proper spring training after remaining unsigned all offseason until inking a one-year deal with the White Sox until April 2, Clevinger has spent the first month of the regular season getting ramped up. He made the second of two starts at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, covering four innings (71 pitches) and striking out four while allowing two earned runs on six hits and one walk. The White Sox have already announced their starting rotation through Sunday's game in St. Louis, but Clevinger should be a strong candidate to make his 2024 big-league debut early next week at Tampa Bay, if the organization's brain trust determines he doesn't need another tune-up start in the minors.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Making second rehab start

Clevinger is making a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Throws 60 pitches

Clevinger allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three across 3.1 innings Thursday with Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Clevinger is ramping up his workload after signing with the White Sox a few days after the season began. He threw 60 pitches in his appearance Thursday and will increase his workload to 75 pitches in his next outing, which will also come with Charlotte. Assuming all goes well, Clevinger's third appearance of the campaign will come in the majors -- setting him up to debut around May 5.

  • White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Making first rehab start Thursday

Clevinger will make a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday against Lehigh Valley, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Clevinger will be making his first start with a minor-league affiliate, as he has been pitching in extended spring training games after re-signing with the White Sox on a one-year deal April 2. Manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday that Clevinger will throw four innings and/or 60 pitches in his first start with Charlotte and then progress to five innings and/or 75 pitches in his next outing. Clevinger could be ready to join the White Sox's rotation after that, setting him up for his season debut as soon as May 5 in St. Louis.
