  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Big impact in second start

Toglia went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored Friday against the Cardinals.

Toglia drew his second straight start in right field over Hunter Goodman since being recalled from the majors Thursday. He drove in one in his first appearance since the promotion and had another productive game Friday when he cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple in the fourth inning. Toglia came around to score on the same play but was not credited with an RBI due to an error by the Cardinals. The Rockies have rotated their outfield regularly this season, but Toglia appears to be the preferred option in right field for the time being.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

Astros' Jose Abreu: Smacks second homer

Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-1 win over the Angels.

Abreu has gone a modest 3-for-17 over six games in June, but two of those hits have been homers. The first baseman has made limited progress at the plate since he was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land, but he's seeing steady playing time anyway. He's slashing .122/.171/.194 with two homers, six RBI and eight runs scored over 105 plate appearances in 2024.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | CHW

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Goes deep in win

Vaughn went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Friday's win over Boston.

Vaughn singled and scored in the fourth inning before knocking a solo blast in the sixth. After a 36-game homerless drought to begin the year, he's gone deep six times over his last 22 appearances, including two straight games. During that span, he's boosted his season OPS from .507 to .633 through 237 total plate appearances.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Swats two homers

Flores went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Friday's win over Texas.

Flores opened the game's scoring with a solo blast in the second inning before going deep again in the fourth. He's knocked three home runs while driving in seven runs over his last two games. Before that, he was stuck in a 21-game homerless drought, during which he produced a .490 OPS. Flores is now slashing .224/.298/.353 with four home runs and 21 RBI through 52 appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Recalled by Toronto

The Blue Jays recalled Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Since May 1, Horwitz is slashing .336/.435/.552 with three home runs, 23 RBI and 19 walks over 125 at-bats in Triple-A. He's played mostly at second base as of late, and the 26-year old has the versatility to fill in at first base or the outfield. Toronto designated Cavan Biggio in a corresponding move.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | SF

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Hitting and throwing

Wade (hamstring) has begun hitting and throwing programs at the Giants' complex in Arizona, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Wade still has plenty of boxes to check off before he can start playing in rehab games, but resuming baseball activity is certainly a step in the right direction. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain in late May and still projects to be sidelined until at least the end of June.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | OAK

Athletics' J.D. Davis: Sitting again Friday

Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh for the series opener.

  • Dominic Smith 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Idle Friday

Smith is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Smith was busy in the Red Sox's 14-2 win Thursday, reaching safely on four occasions. He'll get the day off against lefty Garrett Crochet, with Bobby Dalbec filling in at first and batting eighth.

  • Joey Gallo 1B | WAS

Nationals' Joey Gallo: Out of lineup against lefty

Gallo is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Gallo started against a lefty earlier this week, but he will begin Friday's game on the bench as Atlanta turns to southpaw Chris Sale as its starting pitcher. Joey Meneses will start at first base for the Nationals.

  • Blue Jays' Spencer Horwitz: Expected to join Toronto

Horwitz is expected to join the Blue Jays in Oakland on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

He will presumably be added to the roster, although it's unclear what the corresponding transaction will be. Horwitz has been on fire of late at Triple-A Buffalo, going 16-for-36 with a pair of home runs. He's also played mostly second base over that stretch, and that could be a path to playing time for him with the big club if the Jays would prefer to use Davis Schneider more in left field. Horwitz could also fill in at first base if Vladimir Guerrero sees more time across the diamond at third.
