Moreta underwent surgery on his right UCL on Thursday and will be out 14-to-16 months, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Moreta landed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday after damaging his UCL earlier this spring. He logged a 3.72 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 58 innings last year, but he won't be able to follow up his solid season until midway through the 2025 campaign.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Lands on 60-day IL
The Pirates placed Moreta (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Saturday. Moreta suffered ligament damage in his right elbow during a spring game March 3, and his move to the 60-day IL officially rules him out for the first few months of the season. Moreta's roster spot will be filled by Michael Taylor, who officially signed with the Pirates on Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Meeting with doctor next week
Moreta (elbow) will meet with Dr. Keith Meister next week to discuss treatment options, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Moreta is dealing with ligament damage in his right elbow and might require surgery, but that determination hasn't been made yet. Even if the rest-and-rehab route is chosen, Moreta will be sidelined for a significant period of time.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Dealing with elbow ligament injury
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Moreta is dealing with a ligament injury to his right elbow, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. The hurler is still being evaluated before a decision is made about how to treat the injury, but Tomczyk said Moreta will miss "an extended period of time." The loss of Moreta for any length of time is a big blow to the Pirates bullpen, as he held a 3.72 ERA and 76:24 K:BB across 58 innings in 2023 and had been pegged for a key role again in 2024.... Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Set to miss time
Pirates GM Ben Cherington said Tuesday that Moreta's elbow injury is still being evaluated, but the right-hander is expected to miss some time, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. The 26-year-old suffered the elbow injury during Sunday's spring game against the Orioles, and while the specifics of the issue aren't yet know, it appears he'll begin the season on the injured list. Moreta was a reliable bullpen piece for Pittsburgh last season with a 3.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 76:24 K:BB across 58 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Exits with elbow issue
Moreta was removed from Sunday's spring game against the Orioles due to an apparent elbow injury, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. The right-hander averaged just under 90 mph on his fastball Sunday, which is significantly down from his 95.2-mph average last season. The specifics of the situation remain unclear, but Moreta was seen shaking his arm as he exited the field.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Makes return from IL
The Pirates reinstated Moreta (back) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. Moreta received the green light to rejoin Pittsburgh after striking out two over a scoreless inning in his lone rehab appearance Thursday with Triple-A Indianapolis. Prior to landing on the IL on Aug. 4 with lower-back soreness, Moreta had notched four wins, one save and four holds over 48.1 innings out of the Pittsburgh bullpen while pitching to a 4.10 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 63:22 K:BB. He should step back into a key setup role in front of closer David Bednar.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Beginning rehab assignment
Moreta (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. Moreta was placed on the IL on Aug. 4 due to soreness in his lower back, and Friday will mark the beginning of the final stage in his recovery process. The Pirates haven't indicated how long they plan on keeping Moreta in the minors, but it's possible he returns ahead of their next homestand Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Lands on injured list
The Pirates placed Moreta on the 15-day injured list Friday with lower-back soreness, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. After giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over one inning Thursday against Milwaukee, Moreta will be sidelined for at least two weeks. The 27-year-old righty holds a 4.10 ERA and 1.20 WHIP on the season and figures to return in late August.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Three strikeouts in clean outing
Moreta didn't allow a baserunner while striking out three over 1.1 scoreless innings Friday against the Angels. Following a rough June that saw him allow 10 runs over 10 innings, Moreta has given up only one run with a 0.72 WHIP and 13 strikeouts through 8.1 frames in July. While currently holding a middle-relief role in Pittsburgh, continued impactful outings could lead to a rise in role if the Pirates trade away closer David Bednar and/or setup man Colin Holderman continues to struggle.... Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Takes first loss
Moreta (1-1) took the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed an unearned run on a hit while striking out one over one-third of an inning. Moreta replaced Roansy Contreras to start the sixth inning, striking out Corbin Carroll before Christian Walker reached on a Ke'Bryan Hayes throwing error. Walker would score on Lourdes Gurriel's base hit, giving Arizona a 4-3 lead and eventually handing Moreta his first loss. Overall, the 27-year-old Moreta has been excellent for Pittsburgh. He still hasn't allowed an earned run since April 26, a span of 10.2 innings. He sports a 2.14 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB across 21 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Gets save against Cardinals
Moreta picked up the save in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Cardinals in 10 innings, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless inning. Moreta was tasked with getting the save after David Bednar worked the ninth inning against the Cardinals, and he got the job done. It's the first save of the season for Moreta in eight appearances. As long as Bednar is on the roster, it's unlikely Moreta will see many more save chances.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Dauri Moreta: Moves back to Triple-A
The Reds returned Moreta to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Moreta will head back to the minors after serving as the Reds' 29th man for Sunday's doubleheader with the Rockies. He appeared in relief in the Reds' 10-0 win in Game 2, striking out one over two scoreless innings while giving up one hit and issuing two walks.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Dauri Moreta: Recalled Thursday
Moreta was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Moreta was sent down by the Reds in early August, and he's posted a 6.00 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in six innings over six relief appearances in the minors following his demotion. However, he'll rejoin the major-league bullpen after T.J. Zeuch (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Dauri Moreta: Lands on injured list
Moreta was placed on the injured list for undisclosed reasons Saturday. The Reds declined to note both the reason for Moreta's absence and the specific injured list he landed on, which fits the pattern teams have used when placing players on the COVID-19 injured list. Ryan Hendrix was called up to take his place on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Dauri Moreta: Returns to big leagues
The Reds recalled Moreta from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Outfielder TJ Friedl was optioned to Louisville to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Moreta. The 26-year-old right-hander was able to secure a spot on the Reds' Opening Day roster, but he labored across 15 appearances before being sent to Louisville on May 12. Over his 13.2 innings with the Reds, Moreta was charged with 15 earned runs on 15 hits and six walks while striking out 16.... See More ... See Less -
