  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Sitting against southpaw

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Wells had started behind the plate while the Yankees faced right-handed starting pitchers in both of the past two games, but the lefty-hitting catcher will take a seat for the series finale while southpaw Blake Snell toes the rubber for the Giants. Jose Trevino will pick up the start at catcher.

  • Rangers' Andrew Knizner: Heading back to bench Sunday

Knizner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Knizner will be back on the bench after he started at catcher in Saturday's 7-0 win, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. The start was just his second in the Rangers' last 11 games, as Knizner continues to receive limited playing time behind No. 1 backstop Jonah Heim.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Getting rest Sunday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Atlanta.

Langeliers looks to be receiving some routine maintenance Sunday after he caught all nine innings of Saturday's 11-9 win while going 1-for-5 with a run scored. Kyle McCann will get the nod behind the plate in the series finale.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Sitting again Sunday

Wong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Wong is on the bench for the second day in a row, but the Red Sox haven't indicated that their top backstop is dealing with any sort of injury or illness. Reese McGuire will get another turn behind the dish Sunday at Wong's expense.

  • Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Idle against lefty

Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Rortvedt will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed hitters Jonathan Aranda, Brandon Lowe and Richie Palacios as the Rays roll a full right-handed-hitting lineup versus Orioles southpaw Cole Irvin. Alex Jackson will spell Rortvedt behind the plate.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Sitting in second straight game

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Diaz will give way to Victor Caratini behind the plate for the second day in a row while he's in the midst of a prolonged slump at the plate. Dating back to May 1, Diaz is slashing .200/.213/.259 over a stretch of 25 games. Given that he's valued mainly for his contributions at the plate rather than as a pitch framer and game caller, Diaz's lengthy dry spell with the bat looks to be costing him playing time. The Astros have already pulled back on using Diaz as a designated hitter on days he doesn't catch; he started seven games at DH between March and April, but he hasn't made a start as a DH since May 17.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Back on bench Sunday

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Vazquez remains the Twins' No. 2 catcher, but he picked up starts in three of the previous five games while Minnesota deployed top backstop Ryan Jeffers at designated hitter on three days he didn't start behind the plate. Jeffers will serve as the Twins' catcher for the series finale in Houston while Alex Kirilloff slots in as the DH, leaving no room in the lineup for Vazquez. The 33-year-old has struggled mightily at the dish in his second season in Minnesota, slashing .161/.179/.196 over 119 plate appearances while striking out a career-worst 25.2 percent rate.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Sitting Saturday

O'Hoppe is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

O'Hoppe will get a breather after he went 2-for-15 with two solo home runs and three runs scored while starting the last four contests. Matt Thaiss will draw the start at catcher and bat sixth against Seattle.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Another day off versus left-hander

Naylor is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Nationals.

Naylor will get another day off as the Guardians face left-hander Mitchell Parker on Saturday. Austin Hedges will replace him at catcher and bat eighth versus Washington.

  • Danny Jansen C | TOR

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Sitting Saturday

Jansen will sit Saturday versus the Pirates.

Jansen will take a seat after he went 0-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and two strikeouts in Friday's 5-3 win. Alejandro Kirk will draw the start behind the plate and bat eighth against Pittsburgh.
