Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Throws again Tuesday
Cole (elbow) threw approximately 36 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, per MLB.com.
Cole continues to incrementally increase his pitch count during his throwing sessions -- his previous bullpen took place Saturday and included 29 pitches. The veteran right-hander sat at around 89 mph with his fastball in that session, so he appears to still have a ways to go to get back up to full speed, but so far his recovery seems to be going smoothly, with manager Aaron Boone characterizing Cole's outlook as "onward and upward." There's no indication yet of when Cole may begin a rehab assignment, but he isn't likely to be activated off the IL until after the start of June.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Set to restart rehab stint
LeMahieu (foot) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday or Friday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
LeMahieu had embarked upon a rehab stint April 23 but lasted only one inning due to soreness in his injured right foot. He's been ramping back up of late by taking live batting practice and fielding grounders, and he recently resumed running the bases. Per Joyce, LeMahieu's restarted rehab assignment will begin with Double-A Somerset and is expected to include "a decent amount of games."

Yankees' Roderick Arias: Struggling to make contact
Arias is hitting .211 with a .349 OBP, two home runs, seven steals and a 35.6 percent strikeout rate in 32 games for Single-A Tampa.
Arias turns 20 in September, so he's at a level he should be able to have success at, but thus far the concerns about his contact rate in rookie ball have proven valid. His contact rate is below 60 percent in his first taste of full-season ball, and the only reason he's been better than league average (108 wRC+) is that his 16.1 percent walk rate is the 12th best mark in the Florida State League.

Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Hits monster homer
Stanton went 2-for-5 with a solo home run during Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Twins.
Stanton launched a 427-foot homer in the third inning off Chris Paddack for his ninth long ball of 2024. The 34-year-old still owns a huge 34 percent strikeout rate, but he owns a .236 batting average and is slugging .471 -- both would be his best tallies since 2021. Stanton has hit safely in eight of his last nine games.

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Generates quality start
Rodon (4-2) picked up the win Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing one run on six hits and no walks during six innings. He struck out six.
Rodon turned in his fourth quality start of his last five appearances and didn't issue a four-ball walk for a third straight contest. The lone run charged against him came via a Ryan Jeffers homer in the bottom of the first. After posting a 6.85 ERA in his first season in New York, Rodon has bounced back with a 3.31 ERA through nine starts and is tied for the team lead in wins. Rodon is scheduled to close out a two-start week with a Sunday start against the White Sox -- the team he played his first seven seasons with.

Yankees' Tommy Kahnle: Transferred to Double-A
Kahnle (shoulder) will continue his rehab assignment at Double-A Somerset.
After pitching two perfect innings at Single-A Tampa, Kahnle will bump up a level for the next step in his rehab. It's expected that Kahnle will need at least five appearances in the minors before joining the big league roster.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Runs bases Sunday
LeMahieu (foot) ran the bases Sunday and will take live batting practice again Tuesday, Mark Didtler of the Associated Press reports.
Running the bases is a significant step in LeMahieu's recovery from a non-displaced fracture of his right foot. The veteran infielder has also been taking batting practice and fielding ground balls, and he could restart a minor-league rehab assignment soon. LeMahieu had begun a rehab stint April 23 but had to be pulled after just one inning due to experiencing soreness in the injured foot.

Yankees' Jahmai Jones: Swats first big-league homer
Jones went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk against the Rays in Sunday's 10-6 victory.
Jones enjoyed a career milestone when he belted a solo shot in the third inning for his first major-league home run. It was a rare opportunity for him to make an impact -- though Jones has stuck on the Yankees' roster throughout the campaign, Sunday marked just his second start, and he's seen only 10 plate appearances overall. Jones has gone 2-for-8 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch in his limited turns at the dish.

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Snaps slump with key homer
Torres went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 10-6 win over Tampa Bay.
Torres came into the contest batting .156 through 10 games in May and failed to reach base in his first three plate appearances Sunday. However, he came up big in the eighth inning, smashing a three-run shot to increase the Yankees' lead to 9-5. The long ball was just his second of the season, which is a pretty significant drop-off after he went deep 25 times in 158 contests last year.

Yankees' Aaron Judge: Belts 10th home run
Judge went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.
Judge ripped a two-run shot in the fifth inning for his 10th long ball of the year. Through his first 24 games this season, he registered a .663 OPS with three home runs and 31 punchouts. Over his last 18 appearances, Judge is back to his usual self with a 1.146 OPS, seven homers and a 14:16 BB:K. The recent hot streak has brought his slash line to .235/.369/.497 through 187 plate appearances.

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Belts two homers
Trevino went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Sunday's win over the Rays.
Trevino knocked a two-run shot in the fourth inning and tacked on an insurance run with his solo blast in the eighth. Entering Sunday's game, the veteran catcher had just two home runs through 78 plate appearances this season. He's now slashing .293/.341/.453 with four long balls -- matching his total over 55 games played last season -- and 14 RBI through 26 appearances.

Yankees' Luis Gil: Turns in scoreless appearance
Gil (4-1) allowed three hits and two walks over six shutout innings Sunday, striking out three and earning a win over the Rays.
Gil never found himself in much trouble Sunday as he cruised to a scoreless quality start. He's gone 3-0 while giving up one run over 18.1 frames in his last three outings, dropping his season ERA to 2.51. Prior to these three straight quality starts, Gil hadn't completed six innings in any of his first five appearances. His next start is projected to be a strong home matchup against the White Sox.

Yankees' Tommy Kahnle: Effective in second rehab outing
Kahnle (shoulder) tossed a perfect inning in a rehab appearance with Single-A Tampa on Saturday, striking out one batter.
Kahnle threw of 10 of 15 pitches for strikes in the appearance and got up to 95.5 mph with his sinker, per Conor Foley of YES Network. The veteran reliever has completed two of what is expected to be at least five rehab outings, pitching two perfect frames with three strikeouts thus far. If all goes well for Kahnle during the remainder of his rehab stint, he could join the major-league bullpen within the next two weeks.

Yankees' Lou Trivino: Hits snag in recovery process
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Trivino experienced inflammation in his surgically repaired right elbow in late April and is in the midst of a 3-to-4-week shutdown period, MLB.com reports. "He won't throw for a couple of more weeks, and then [will] start ramping up again," Boone said.
Trivino underwent Tommy John surgery May 3, 2023 and has hit his first snag in the rehab process, but the Yankees don't believe the setback is a major one. The right-hander's surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, performed imaging on Trivino, and nothing beyond inflammation was detected in his elbow. Assuming the multi-week rest period does its part and allows Trivino's inflammation to calm down, he should begin ramping up by the end of the month or the first week of June. Trivino is likely targeting a return from the 60-day injured list at some point around the All-Star break.

Yankees' Scott Effross: Close to facing hitters again
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Effross (back) is close to facing hitters again, MLB.com reports.
Effross' last appearance in affiliated ball came Oct. 3, 2022, with the right-handed reliever requiring Tommy John surgery later that month. Though he's fully healed from the elbow surgery, Effross experienced back discomfort last fall and ultimately required a microdiscectomy of his L-4 and L-5 vertabrae. Effross was held back in spring training while he completed his recovery from back surgery, but he seems to have resumed throwing bullpen sessions without issue and should soon take the mound against live hitters. The Yankees are hopeful that Effross will be ready to return from the 60-day injured list at some point during the summer.

Yankees' JT Brubaker: Facing hitters again
Brubaker (elbow) threw live batting practice against DJ LeMahieu (foot) on Saturday at the Yankees' spring training facility in Tampa, MLB.com reports.
After he had been limited to throwing bullpen sessions over the past couple of months, Brubaker has now moved on to the next phase in his rehab from his April 12, 2023 Tommy John surgery: facing hitters. He'll likely throw multiple live BPs before embarking on an extended minor-league rehab assignment in the coming weeks. Brubaker is targeting a return from the 60-day injured list around the All-Star break and could be an option for the big-league rotation if the Yankees have an opening.
