Scott (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Mets fell 8-0 to the Marlins, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
All the damage off the rookie right-hander came in the second inning, with a three-run homer by light-hitting catcher Nick Fortes accounting for most of it. Scott left the mound after throwing 84 pitches (55 strikes), and after a strong big-league debut against the Rays, he's run into trouble against NL East foes. The 24-year-old will stick in the rotation for now, but if his struggles begin to mount, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Mets sent him back to Triple-A. Scott will carry a 4.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB through 16.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cleveland.

Mets' David Peterson: Strikes out eight in rehab start

Peterson (hip) struck out eight over 5.1 scoreless innings in his latest rehab start Tuesday for Double-A Binghamton. He scattered five hits and didn't walk a batter.
Peterson opened the season on the 60-day injured list while he completed his recovery from Nov. 6 surgery to address a torn labrum in his left hip, but the southpaw looks on pace to be activated on or around when he's first eligible May 27. He tossed 70 pitches (53 strikes) in Tuesday's outing, his first with Binghamton and the fourth outing overall of his rehab assignment. Peterson will likely shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and should require just one or two more tune-up starts before making his way back from the IL. The Mets have a full rotation at the moment, so Peterson -- who has a minor-league option remaining -- could end up sticking around with Syracuse upon his activation.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Returning to rotation Monday

Megill (shoulder) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start Monday's series opener versus the Guardians in Cleveland, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
After exiting in his season debut with March 31 with a right shoulder strain and landing on the IL, Megill is finally ready to make his second start with the Mets nearly seven weeks later. According to Puma, Megill said the injury was caused by the lower arm slot he used on his curveball, but the right-hander reported no issues with throwing his breaking pitches during his four-start minor-league rehab assignment. Megill most recently tossed 5.1 shutout innings and 74 pitches in his final rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on May 12, so he's not expected to be under any major workload restrictions as he steps back into the big-league rotation.
Nimmo (illness) remains out of the lineup for Friday's contest in Miami.
Nimmo was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup due to a stomach bug and he's evidently still not feeling well enough to play. With Nimmo resting, the Mets will go with Tyrone Taylor in left field and in the leadoff spot.

Mets' Jake Diekman: Secures first save

Diekman gave up an unearned run in the 11th inning Thursday, walking one and striking out one, to record his first save of the season in a 6-5 win over the Phillies.
The veteran southpaw couldn't stop the phantom runner from coming home thanks in part to a Pete Alonso error, but Diekman otherwise wiggled out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam to preserve the comeback win. Edwin Diaz had blown his third save of the season in the ninth inning, but the Mets aren't yet showing any inclination to make a switch at closer. Diekman's control issues could keep him out of consideration for saves even if the job does become open, however -- through 14 innings this season he has a 3.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB.

Lopez (1-0) picked up the win in Thursday's extra-innings victory over the Phillies, walking one batter in a scoreless 10th inning.
The 31-year-old right-hander has seen his numbers take a step backward in May, and through seven innings this month he has a 3.86 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 4:6 K:BB. Lopez got the job done Thursday though, and he's collected one win, two saves and six holds in 22 appearances while giving the Mets some valuable middle-relief depth.

It's the fourth multi-hit performance for Marte in May, but he has just four total hits in his other 10 contests on the month. The veteran outfielder is a perfect 8-for-8 on the season in steal attempts though, keeping his fantasy value afloat despite a lackluster .259/.305/.370 slash line that comes with four homers, 15 RBI and 21 runs in 35 games.

Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Nabs fourth steal

Taylor went 0-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Phillies.
Getting the start in center field and hitting leadoff, Taylor didn't have much success at the plate but took advantage in the eighth inning when he reached on a Bryson Stott error, swiping second base and coming around to score on a Harrison Bader single. Taylor has seen sporadic playing time of late as the Mets' fourth outfielder, and through 91 plate appearances on the season he's slashing .256/.278/.372 with two homers, four steals, 10 runs and 13 RBI.
Alonso went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run during Thursday's 6-5 win over the Phillies in extra innings.
Alonso tagged Taijuan Walker (foot) for a solo shot in the first inning, putting the first baseman at 10 homers this season. He's now tied for the fourth-most home runs in the NL and owns a .772 OPS with 23 RBI and 27 runs through 164 at-bats.

Diaz inherited a one-run lead for the bottom of the ninth but was unable to convert his sixth save of 2024. Nimmo wasn't feeling well heading into Thursday's contest, so the Mets will give him the day off to recover. In the meantime, DJ Stewart will take Nimmo's place in left field and bat fifth, moving Tyrone Taylor into the leadoff spot.
Lavender recently underwent an internal brace procedure on his left elbow, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Elbow surgery had been expected, and Lavender and the Mets probably have at least some level of relief that it was the internal brace variety and not a full Tommy John surgery. The left-hander will face a shorter rehab period for his internal brace surgery than he would with Tommy John surgery, but he'll still miss the remainder of the 2024 season and could open the 2025 season on the shelf. The 24-year-old had been regarded as one of the Mets' better relief prospects and was expected to make his MLB debut at some point in 2024 before he developed the elbow injury.
