Hayden Wesneski CHC RP
Cubs' Hayden Wesneski: Earns another start
2m agoWesneski will start Wednesday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The Cubs are getting Justin Steele (hamstring) back this week and Kyle Hendricks (back) could return next week, but Wesneski earned at least one more turn in the rotation. Wesneski blanked the Brewers over 6.1 innings while striking out eight Friday, marking the first time he has logged over four innings in the majors this season. He has a 0.54 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and a 14:3 K:BB in 16.2 innings across four appearances. Ben Brown could be the odd man out, unless the Cubs go with a six-man rotation this week.
-
Alec Bohm PHI 3B
Phillies' Alec Bohm: Ready to go Sunday
6m agoBohm (hip) is starting at third base and batting fifth Sunday against the Giants, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The 27-year-old was removed from Saturday's contest due to right hip tightness but is back in the starting nine a day later. Bohm has been one of the best hitters in baseball through the first five weeks of the season with a .364/.435/.579 slash line in 34 games.
-
Randy Vasquez SD SP
Padres' Randy Vasquez: Back in majors
17m agoThe Padres recalled Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
The right-hander was optioned to El Paso on April 26 after making a couple starts for San Diego, and he'll rejoin the big club Sunday since Joe Musgrove (elbow) landed on the injured list. Vasquez allowed five earned runs with a 5:3 K:BB over 7.2 frames in his two outings and could step into the rotation for Musgrove, who had been scheduled to pitch Tuesday against the Cubs.
-
Blaze Alexander ARI SS
Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Sitting after three straight starts
19m agoAlexander is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
Alexander had started each of the previous three games at shortstop, going 1-for-9 with one walk. He'll give way to Kevin Newman for the series finale, but the playing time at shortstop will likely tilt in Alexander's direction until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is ready to return from the injured list.
-
Joe Musgrove SD SP
Padres' Joe Musgrove: Out with elbow inflammation
21m agoThe Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation.
The right-hander was expected to start Tuesday against the Cubs but will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. It's unclear when the injury surfaced for Musgrove, who struck out nine and allowed two runs over six innings his last time out versus the Cubs. Randy Vasquez was recalled in a corresponding move and could step into the rotation for San Diego.
-
Donovan Solano SD 1B
Padres' Donovan Solano: Contract selected by Friars
29m agoThe Padres selected Solano's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
The 36-year-old joined San Diego on a minor-league deal in mid-April and will join the big club after he posted an .847 OPS in 12 games with El Paso. Solano isn't likely to see significant playing time, especially following the Padres' acquisition of Luis Arraez.
-
Tyler Stephenson CIN C
Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Taking seat Sunday
1h agoStephenson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Stephenson started the first two games of the series but will sit for the finale after going 0-for-6 with a walk. Luke Maile is catching for Nick Lodolo and batting ninth.
-
Luis Campusano SD C
Padres' Luis Campusano: Not in Sunday's lineup
1h agoCampusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Campusano started the previous four games and went 2-for-15 with two walks, two RBI and two runs. Kyle Higashioka will take over behind the plate in Sunday's series finale.
-
Will Smith LAD C
Dodgers' Will Smith: Getting rest day
1h agoSmith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Unless he makes a plate appearance off the bench, Smith will put his eight-game hitting streak on hold and get a breather after he was behind the plate for each of the Dodgers' previous five contests. Austin Barnes will handle the catching duties in the series finale.
-
Gabriel Moreno ARI C
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Out of Sunday's lineup
1h agoMoreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
Moreno started the first two games of the series and will sit Sunday afternoon after going 2-for-7 with an RBI. Tucker Barnhart will step in behind the plate and bat ninth.
-
Shea Langeliers OAK C
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Getting maintenance day
1h agoLangeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.
Langeliers was probably overdue for a day off, as he had started at catcher or served as a designated hitter in each of Oakland's last five games. Kyle McCann will get a turn behind the plate in Sunday's series finale.
-
Korey Lee CHW C
White Sox's Korey Lee: Getting rest Sunday
2h agoLee is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Lee will hit the bench for the series finale after he caught all 10 innings of Saturday's 6-5 win while going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Martin Maldonado will draw the nod behind the plate Sunday.
-
Donovan Solano SD 1B
Padres' Donovan Solano: Contract selected by Friars
29m agoThe Padres selected Solano's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
The 36-year-old joined San Diego on a minor-league deal in mid-April and will join the big club after he posted an .847 OPS in 12 games with El Paso. Solano isn't likely to see significant playing time, especially following the Padres' acquisition of Luis Arraez.
-
Jake Bauers MIL 1B
Brewers' Jake Bauers: Losing work to Tyler Black
2h agoBauers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
The lefty-hitting Bauers is on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher (Javier Assad) for the second day in a row. With prospect Tyler Black recently getting a call-up from Triple-A Nashville and quickly moving into a regular role, Bauers' time as an everyday player versus right-handed pitching has seemingly come to an end.
-
Jonathan Singleton HOU 1B
Astros' Jon Singleton: Settling in as regular first baseman
2h agoSingleton will start at first base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Mariners, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Rather than Singleton, the recent arrival of prospect Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Sugar Land has been most detrimental to outfielders Mauricio Dubon and Jake Meyers. In fact, with Jose Abreu getting optioned to the minors and with Loperfido seeing all of his opportunities to date in left field and center field, Singleton has settled into a regular role at first base for Houston. He'll stay in the lineup for a sixth straight contest after going 4-for-16 with a pair of home runs and walks over the previous five games.
-
Garrett Cooper BOS 1B
Red Sox's Garrett Cooper: Out of Sunday's lineup
3h agoCooper is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Minnesota, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Cooper started the first two games of the series but will sit for the finale after going 0-for-7 with a walk and two strikeouts. Dominic Smith will handle first base while Rafael Devers receives a turn at designated hitter.
-
Wilmer Flores SF 1B
Giants' Wilmer Flores: Hits first homer of season
4h agoFlores went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 14-3 loss to the Phillies.
Flores has gone 6-for-19 (.316) with three RBI, a homer, a double, and a 3:3 BB:K over his last seven contests. It's been more of the same for Flores this year -- he began the year in a utility role, but he's earned a short-side platoon role with LaMonte Wade at first base over the first month of the campaign. The Giants have had good infield health so far, so it's unlikely Flores carves out a much larger role. He's slashing .234/.322/.325 with five extra-base hits, 12 RBI and seven runs scored across 90 plate appearances.
-
Ty France SEA 1B
Mariners' Ty France: Multi-hit effort in Saturday's win
5h agoFrance went 2-for-4 with two runs in a win over the Astros on Saturday.
The veteran played the table-setting role in the victory, scoring the first and final runs of the game on a Cal Raleigh double play groundout and home run, respectively. France has a pair of two-hit efforts in the last three games, but zooming further out, he's sitting on a lackluster .213/.260/.362 slash line over the 50 plate appearances covering his last 13 contests.
-
Gavin Lux LAD 2B
Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Getting day off against lefty
1h agoLux is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Lux is one of three lefty-hitting regulars along with Max Muncy and James Outman who will hit the bench while southpaw Max Fried takes the hill for Atlanta. Miguel Rojas will fill in for Lux at second base.
-
Nolan Gorman STL 2B
Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Out of Sunday's lineup
2h agoGorman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
Gorman is 1-for-17 with four walks and five strikeouts over his past six games, and he'll receive a day to reset Sunday. Jose Fermin is starting at the keystone and batting eighth in the series finale versus Chicago.
-
Nicky Lopez CHW 2B
White Sox's Nicky Lopez: Managing adductor issue
2h agoLopez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox and is dealing with adductor soreness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Manager Pedro Grifol indicated Lopez could have played through the issue, but the skipper decided to provide a day off. The 29-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener in Tampa Bay. Braden Shewmake is manning the keystone while Bryan Ramos starts at third base Sunday.
-
Cavan Biggio TOR 2B
Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Ducks out of lineup against LHP
3h agoBiggio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
With southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the hill for Washington, the lefty-hitting Biggio will retreat to the bench. Toronto will insert Isiah Kiner-Falefa into the lineup as its starting second baseman.
-
Michael Massey KC 2B
Royals' Michael Massey: Three hits in Saturday's loss
3h agoMassey went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 15-4 loss to the Rangers.
Massey was a bright spot in the Royals' lopsided loss, extending his hitting streak to seven games in the process. He's gone 10-for-25 (.400) with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBI and six runs scored in that stretch. The second baseman took about a week to get his bat going after recovering from a back injury, but he's stepped up to claim a starting role at the keystone, which has bumped Adam Frazier into a utility role.
-
Thairo Estrada SF 2B
Giants' Thairo Estrada: Three hits in loss
3h agoEstrada went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 14-3 loss to the Phillies.
Estrada has found some consistency in May, going 7-for-17 (.412) over the first four games of the month. He's added two doubles and four RBI in that short stretch. He started slow, but the second baseman is now up to a respectable .254/.270/.426 slash line with four home runs, 17 RBI, 13 runs scored, one stolen base, seven doubles and one triple over 126 plate appearances.
-
Alec Bohm PHI 3B
Phillies' Alec Bohm: Ready to go Sunday
6m agoBohm (hip) is starting at third base and batting fifth Sunday against the Giants, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The 27-year-old was removed from Saturday's contest due to right hip tightness but is back in the starting nine a day later. Bohm has been one of the best hitters in baseball through the first five weeks of the season with a .364/.435/.579 slash line in 34 games.
-
Eguy Rosario SD 3B
Padres' Eguy Rosario: Sent to Triple-A
38m agoRosario was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
Rosario hadn't made a start since April 29 and will now head down to the minors. The Padres selected the contract of Donovan Solano from El Paso in a corresponding move.
-
Max Muncy LAD 3B
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Sitting against lefty
1h agoMuncy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
The 33-year-old launched three homers in Saturday's contest but will still sit Sunday as lefty Max Fried pitches for Atlanta. According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, manager Dave Roberts said Muncy's absence was planned prior to Saturday's contest, and the third baseman is expected to play in the next six contests.
-
J.D. Davis OAK 3B
Athletics' J.D. Davis: Exiting starting nine Sunday
1h agoDavis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.
Following a stint on the 10-day injured list due to an adductor strain, Davis was activated Friday and had started at first base in both of his first two games back in action, going 2-for-7 with a run scored between those contests. The Athletics haven't indicated that Davis suffered a setback in his recovery from the injury, so his absence Sunday is presumably a pre-planned maintenance day.
-
Jeimer Candelario CIN 3B
Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Scratched with shin contusion
2h agoCandelario was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Orioles due to a left shin contusion, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Candelario was penciled in at third base but won't start as scheduled due to the injury. He'll have Monday's team off day to rest up before Tuesday's series opener versus Arizona. Santiago Espinal will step in at the hot corner Sunday.
-
Oliver Dunn MIL 3B
Brewers' Oliver Dunn: Getting trial in everyday role
2h agoDunn will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Over his final 13 games of April, Dunn had gone just 3-for-25 with 12 strikeouts and had seemingly removed himself from consideration for the everyday role at third base, which Joey Ortiz had claimed a firm grasp of due to his much stronger start to the season. However, the Brewers aren't yet willing to pull the plug on Dunn, as manager Pat Murphy told Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Dunn would get an extended look this weekend to prove that he's worthy of sticking around with the big club rather than getting optioned to Triple-A Nashville. For his part, Dunn has done well to convince the Brewers he deserves to remain up in the majors, as he's gone 4-for-9 with a triple, a walk, three runs and an RBI over the previous three contests. Murphy said that the starting third base job still belongs to Ortiz, but Dunn will get his fourth straight nod Sunday and might have made a case to see more consistent playing time as a utility option.
-
Blaze Alexander ARI SS
Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Sitting after three straight starts
19m agoAlexander is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
Alexander had started each of the previous three games at shortstop, going 1-for-9 with one walk. He'll give way to Kevin Newman for the series finale, but the playing time at shortstop will likely tilt in Alexander's direction until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is ready to return from the injured list.
-
Braden Shewmake CHW SS
White Sox's Braden Shewmake: Gets fourth straight start
2h agoShewmake will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Shewmake will start in his fourth straight game, with two coming at second base and two at third base. He doesn't seem to be making much of a case to move into a full-time role at any position, however, as he went 0-for-9 over his previous three starts to drop his season-long slash line down to .140/.154/.240 over his 52 plate appearances.
-
Ezequiel Tovar COL SS
Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Receiving first day off
4h agoTovar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
Tovar will take a seat for the first time all season after starting in each of Colorado's first 33 games, enabling Alan Trejo to enter the lineup at shortstop. The Rockies are likely hoping that a day on the bench will be helpful for Tovar as he looks to break out of his recent funk at the plate; over his last nine games, he's slashing .128/.171/.154 with a 39 percent strikeout rate.
-
Jordan Lawlar ARI SS
Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Undergoes follow-up
4h agoLawlar (thumb) had a five-week postoperative follow-up last week and has been cleared to begin a strengthening program, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
After Lawlar completes a one-week strength and conditioning program, the shortstop will advance to a baseball projection. In two weeks time, he'll be assessed for his response to baseball activity. If all goes well, the organization will begin prepping Lawlar for activation, which presumably includes a minor-league rehab assignment. It's unclear if the team will employ him in the majors or assign him to Triple-A Reno.
-
Brayan Rocchio CLE SS
Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Getting rest day
5h agoRocchio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Rocchio went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's 7-1 win, but he had been turning a corner of late offensively, going 5-for-14 with five walks against three strikeouts while stealing three bases in four attempts over Cleveland's preceding five contests. Gabriel Arias will get the starting nod at shortstop Sunday, but the Guardians are still seemingly viewing Rocchio as their preferred option at the position.
-
Javier Baez DET SS
Tigers' Javier Baez: Back in lineup Sunday
6h agoBaez will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Yankees.
Per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, Baez has been dealing with lingering low-back soreness, which may explain why the Tigers held him out of the lineup for Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees. The sore back doesn't look as though it'll be anything that forces Baez to the 10-day injured list, but he could start receiving more frequent days off, especially if he continues to underwhelm at the plate. After turning in a .671 OPS and .592 OPS in the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, respectively, Baez has declined further so far in his third season in Detroit. He carries a .183/.228/.258 slash line into Sunday's contest.
-
Stuart Fairchild CIN CF
Reds' Stuart Fairchild: Heading to bench
41m agoFairchild is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Fairchild started the past four games but will take a seat Sunday after going 1-for-10 with a solo homer and five strikeouts. Will Benson will shift to center field while Jake Fraley starts in right.
-
James Outman LAD CF
Dodgers' James Outman: Resting against lefty
1h agoOutman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Outman is one of three lefty-hitting regulars along with Max Muncy and Gavin Lux who will hit the bench while southpaw Max Fried takes the hill for Atlanta. Chris Taylor will pick up a start in the outfield with Outman checking out of the lineup.
-
Cedric Mullins BAL CF
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Heading to bench Sunday
1h agoMullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
With the Orioles wrapping up their series in Cincinnati with a day game and a lefty (Nick Lodolo) on the hill for the Reds, manager Brandon Hyde likely viewed Sunday as an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Mullins a day off. Ryan McKenna will check in for Mullins in center field.
-
Lourdes Gurriel ARI LF
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Not starting Sunday
1h agoGurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
Gurriel started the previous eight games but will head to the bench Sunday after he went 2-for-33 during that span. Jake McCarthy will receive a start in left field while Pavin Smith starts in right.
-
Christian Yelich MIL LF
Brewers' Christian Yelich: Starts up hitting program
1h agoBrewers manager Pat Murphy said Sunday that Yelich (back) has resumed swinging the bat in addition to running and throwing, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The 32-year-old seemingly had a breakthrough in his recovery from a low back strain this weekend, when he had his best session in the batting cage since landing on the shelf, according to MLB.com. Yelich said that he's targeting a return to action before the Brewers' road trip wraps up Wednesday in Kansas City, but don't be surprised if the team takes a more conservative approach and gives him more time to heal up from the back injury before activating him from the 10-day injured list.
-
Joey Wiemer MIL LF
Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Facing 2-to-3-week absence
1h agoBrewers manager Pat Murphy said Sunday that Wiemer (knee) is expected to be sidelined for 2-to-3 weeks, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Milwaukee placed Wiemer on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a strained popliteus muscle in his left knee, an injury he suffered in Friday's win over the Cubs. While Wiemer will be sidelined for beyond the minimum 10 days, he won't require surgery and will be able to treat the injury with rest and rehab. Once he completes his rehab assignment and is activated from the IL, Wiemer could be optioned to Triple-A Nashville, depending on the overall health of the Milwaukee outfield.
-
Randy Vasquez SD SP
Padres' Randy Vasquez: Back in majors
17m agoThe Padres recalled Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
The right-hander was optioned to El Paso on April 26 after making a couple starts for San Diego, and he'll rejoin the big club Sunday since Joe Musgrove (elbow) landed on the injured list. Vasquez allowed five earned runs with a 5:3 K:BB over 7.2 frames in his two outings and could step into the rotation for Musgrove, who had been scheduled to pitch Tuesday against the Cubs.
-
Joe Musgrove SD SP
Padres' Joe Musgrove: Out with elbow inflammation
21m agoThe Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation.
The right-hander was expected to start Tuesday against the Cubs but will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. It's unclear when the injury surfaced for Musgrove, who struck out nine and allowed two runs over six innings his last time out versus the Cubs. Randy Vasquez was recalled in a corresponding move and could step into the rotation for San Diego.
-
Shane Baz TB SP
Rays' Shane Baz: Throws 39 pitches in rehab start
35m agoBaz (elbow/oblique) gave up three earned runs on three hits and one walk in three innings Saturday during his first rehab start for Triple-A Durham. He failed to record a strikeout and built up to 39 pitches.
He gave up a two-run home run on a changeup to Forrest Wall, which accounted for the brunt of the damage. Baz averaged 95 mph on his fastball, per Thomas Nestco of TJ Stats, and he will probably need to make several more rehab starts before rejoining the big-league rotation.
-
Ryan Pepiot TB SP
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: X-rays return negative
1h agoPepiot had X-rays come back negative and was diagnosed with a bruised lower left leg after exiting Sunday's start against the Mets, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sunreports.
The 26-year-old appears to have avoided a serious injury after being struck in the leg by a 107-mph comebacker, which prompted his exit during the third inning Sunday. Pepiot could remain on turn to pitch against the Yankees next weekend if he bounces back well from the injury over the next few days.
-
Ryan Pepiot TB SP
Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Departs Sunday's start
1h agoPepiot was removed from Sunday's game against the Mets after being struck in the left leg by a comebacker, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sunreports.
The right-hander was hit by a line drive that came off the bat at 107 mph, which ended his day during the third inning. Pepiot finished with three runs allowed on three hits and a walk over two innings. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, leaving the 26-year-old's availability for his next turn through the rotation up in the air.
-
Nick Pivetta BOS SP
Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Looks set to return Wednesday
1h agoRed Sox manager Alex Cora said Pivetta (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Cora stopped short of confirming Pivetta for Wednesday, as the right-hander presumably needs to check out fine following a bullpen session Sunday or Monday before the Red Sox formally clear him to rejoin the rotation. Pivetta, who has been on the shelf since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain, made a rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday and gave up four earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five across three innings. Despite the less-than-stellar results, the Red Sox were apparently encouraged by how Pivetta felt physically in the outing and are eager to bring him back into the big-league rotation this week.
-
Hayden Wesneski CHC RP
-
Connor Brogdon LAD RP
Dodgers' Connor Brogdon: Kicking off rehab assignment
30m agoBrogdon (foot) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
Brogdon is ready for game action again after he was placed on the 15-day injured list April 13 due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He'll likely need at least a couple appearances in the minors before the Dodgers feel comfortable bringing him back from the IL.
-
Joe Kelly LAD RP
Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Shakes off groin injury
1h agoKelly (groin) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning en route to his eighth hold of the season in Friday's 4-3 win over Atlanta in 11 innings.
Kelly tweaked his groin while fielding a grounder in his relief appearance in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, but a few days off was apparently all he needed to overcome the issue. He returned to action Friday to gather his fourth hold in as many appearances. Though Daniel Hudson is likely first in line for save chances after closer Evan Phillips (hamstring) went on the 15-day injured list Sunday, Kelly should move up a rung in the bullpen hierarchy as well.
-
Blake Treinen LAD RP
Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Back from injured list
2h agoTreinen (chest) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.
The right-hander is ready for MLB action after a five-game rehab stint with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Treinen surrendered five runs in his first three appearances but finished with back-to-back scoreless outings. The 35-year-old has thrown just five frames in the big leagues since 2021 and could be eased back into high-leverage work.
-
Daniel Hudson LAD RP
Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Coulds see save chances
2h agoHudson is the likely favorite for save opportunities after Dodgers closer Evan Phillips (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday.
Hudson has been working in a setup role in the early stages of the season, putting him in prime position to fill in at closer for the Dodgers. The right-hander has seven holds and a save with a 3.60 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB over 15 innings this year. Phillips' injury was diagnosed as a Grade 1 strain, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, so a return at the 15-day minimum is possible.
-
Evan Phillips LAD RP
Dodgers' Evan Phillips: Out with hamstring strain
2h agoThe Dodgers placed Phillips on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right hamstring strain, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.
The right-hander presumably suffered the injury during Friday's appearance against Atlanta, when he struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning amid a 2-2 tie. Manager Dave Roberts said Phillips' injury is a Grade 1 strain, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, so the absence may not be a lengthy one. Daniel Hudson is the likely favorite to fill in at closer for the Dodgers.
-
Ryan O'Hearn BAL DH
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Idle against lefty
1h agoO'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
The lefty-hitting O'Hearn finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row while Cincinnati brings another southpaw (Nick Lodolo) to the hill. O'Hearn's absence will allow the Orioles to give infielder Gunnar Henderson a day off playing defense, as the third-year player instead serves as Baltimore's designated hitter.
-
Alec Burleson STL DH
Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Resting against lefty
2h agoBurleson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
The lefty-hitting Burleson's streak of five consecutive starts will come to an end while he exits the lineup with southpaw Garrett Crochet on the hill for the White Sox. With Burleson on the bench, Willson Contreras will get a day off of catching and instead serve as the Cardinals' designated hitter.
-
Nelson Velazquez KC DH
Royals' Nelson Velazquez: On bench Sunday
3h agoVelazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Rangers.
Velazquez went 1-for-4 with a double and a run Saturday but still has just two hits over his past 11 games. Salvador Perez is resting his legs at designated hitter Sunday while Freddy Fermin starts behind the plate.
-
Wyatt Langford TEX DH
Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Held out of Sunday's lineup
4h agoLangford (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Kansas City.
The 22-year-old departed Saturday's contest due to right hamstring tightness and will miss at least one start. Corey Seager will serve as the DH while Langford sits on Sunday, as Josh Smith starts at shortstop and Ezequiel Duran at third base.
-
Mitch Garver SEA DH
Mariners' Mitch Garver: Swats pair of doubles Saturday
