Davis agreed Thursday to re-sign with the Jets, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Davis, a 2020 third-round pick, suited up for all 17 regular-season games with New York last season. He mainly served in a reserve role in the Jets' defensive backfield and was a core special-teams contributor, totaling 37 tackles (23 solo), eight pass breakups, three interceptions and one forced fumble.... Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Six tackles in loss
Davis had six tackles (four solo), including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's 30-0 loss to the Dolphins. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard. The speedy Davis has had a couple of nice special-teams plays for the Jets this season, but the Dolphins sniffed out New York's fake punt and stuffed Davis in the first half. The score was only 7-0 at the time, but the failed fake punt took the air out of the Jets' sails. On the bright side, Davis set a new season high in tackles.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: No injury designation
Davis doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's matchup against the Patriots, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Davis logged a full practice Friday after being limited in each of the first two sessions ahead of Week 8 and is expected to be available after missing Week 7 due to a hamstring injury. However, the third-year pro has seen only 10 defensive snaps across six appearances this season, so he figures to play primarily on special teams against New England.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Won't play Sunday
Davis (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against Denver, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Davis was limited in practice all week and ultimately won't be able to go against the Broncos. He's primarily played on special teams this season and hasn't logged more than five defensive snaps in any contest thus far.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Returns to practice Wednesday
Davis (undisclosed) is returning to practice off injured reserve Wednesday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports. The Jets will have three weeks to add Davis to their active roster. If they don't, he will head back to IR for the remainder of the season. Coach Robert Saleh said it's possible he could be activated for Sunday's game against the Titans. Davis appeared in 10 games for the Jets as a rookie last season and recorded 36 tackles, one pass deflection and one fumble recovery.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Placed on IR
The Jets placed Davis (undisclosed) on injured reserve Wednesday. Davis was activated off the PUP list Monday, but he was placed on IR just two days later. Coach Robert Saleh had previously said that Week 2 could be a potential return date for Davis, but after the move to IR, he will be sidelined until at least Week 3.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Lands on PUP list
Davis (undisclosed) has been placed on the Jets' Active/PUP list, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports. It is unclear at this time what issue Davis is dealing with or how long he is expected to be sidelined entering camp. He played 10 games as a rookie in 2020 and ultimately recorded 36 tackles. He is currently projected to start at strong safety.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Placed on IR
Davis (foot) was placed on injured reserve Saturday. Davis has been a bright spot in an unfortunate season for the Jets. The rookie third-round pick has started the last five games at safety, recording 30 tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery. He's eligible to return for the season finale against New England. For the time being, Matthias Farley is expected to start in Davis' place.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Playing every-down role
Davis recorded five tackles (four solo) and a pass defensed in Monday's 30-27 loss to the Patriots. Davis also had a sack wiped out by an egregious roughing the passer penalty. The rookie safety has blossomed nicely since returning from an early-season groin injury, as Davis has played 100 percent of defensive snaps in each of the last two games while displaying a nice combination of coverage ability and physicality. His full-time role on defense has led to Davis' removal from New York's kick returner role, which now belongs to wide receiver Braxton Berrios.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Back from two-week absence
Davis (groin) is active Week 5 against Arizona. Davis hasn't suited up for the Jets since Week 2, but he'll make his return after logging limited practices each day this week. While Davis could be a depth option in the secondary, look for his primary role to be on special teams.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Inactive, as expected
Davis (groin) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Broncos, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports. Davis was listed as doubtful for Thursday Night Football, so it's not surprising to see him officially listed as inactive. The rookie third-round pick will target a return to the field Week 5 versus Arizona.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Doubtful for Thursday
Davis (groin) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game versus the Jets. Despite being a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, the Jets have essentially ruled out Davis for Week 4. If he indeed sits out, the rookie third-rounder should have a good chance to return in Week 5 against the Cardinals. Braxton Berrios or Josh Malone will likely contribute on kick returns in Davis' place.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Sitting out Sunday
Davis (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Colts, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports. The rookie third-round pick will miss the first game of his career after missing practice Thursday and Friday. He's played only 13 defensive snaps thus far, so his absence will mainly affect the Jets' defensive depth and special teams.... See More ... See Less -
Jets' Ashtyn Davis: Set for backup work
Davis (groin) is likely to operate as the Jets' No. 3 safety in 2020, Ethan Greenberg, Eric Allen and Randy Lange of the team's official site report. Jamal Adams -- barring an unexpected trade -- and Marcus Maye are entrenched in the starting spots at safety, but Davis could still see the field in specialized packages this year. The rookie third-round pick started the past two seasons at Cal and recorded six interceptions in 24 games.... See More ... See Less
