Gallen revealed after Saturday's start against the Tigers that his right hamstring tightened up on him during the fourth inning, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. It's the same hamstring that he had issues with earlier this season, which resulted in an early removal from one start and having another pushed back. Gallen wound up pitching into the seventh inning Saturday, ultimately getting charged with three runs on seven hits while striking out 10 over 6.2 frames. The right-hander said after the outing that his hamstring feels fine and he's unconcerned. Still, given that it's been a recurring problem, it's something to keep in mind.... See More ... See Less

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Produces quality start
Gallen (5-2) picked up the win Sunday against Baltimore, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out four. Gallen notched a second straight quality start, following up a one-hit gem against the Reds with Sunday's two-run showing against the O's. Three of the four hits against Gallen went for extra bases, as he allowed doubles to Anthony Santander and Jordan Westburg while Adley Rutschman slugged a solo homer in the sixth. Gallen owns a 2.86 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP across 44.0 innings in 2024. He's lined up for a home start against the Tigers next weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Excellent against Cincinnati
Gallen (4-2) earned the win Tuesday over the Reds, allowing one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out six. Gallen had gone 11 days between starts after suffering a hamstring injury on April 26 against Seattle. He certainly looked healthy Tuesday, holding Cincinnati to one hit en route to his third scoreless outing this season. It's an encouraging effort from Gallen, who'd dropped his previous two starts, allowing eight runs over 10 innings in that span. He lowered his ERA to 2.84 with a 1.13 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB across seven starts (38 innings) this year. Gallen's currently in line for a road start Sunday against the Orioles in his next outing.... Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Slated for next start Tuesday
Manager Torey Lovullo said after Wednesday's 8-0 loss to the Dodgers that Gallen (hamstring) will make his next start Tuesday against the Reds, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Gallen was removed from his most recent start last Friday with a hamstring injury. The Diamondbacks had tentatively planned for Gallen to start the series finale with the Dodgers, but he ultimately needed more time to heal up from the injury. Arizona will skip his turn in the rotation entirely this week, but he'll tentatively line up for two starts the following week. After his matchup with the Reds, Gallen would then be slated for a start May 12 in Baltimore.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Confirmed for Wednesday's start
Gallen (hamstring) will make his regularly scheduled start Wednesday against the Dodgers, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Gallen's bullpen session earlier in the day went well, and skipper Torey Lovullo confirmed late Monday evening that the right-hander will indeed take the mound Wednesday after exiting his previous outing Friday due to hamstring spasms. Gallen owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with a 35:9 K:BB across 32 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Tosses bullpen Monday
Gallen (hamstring) threw a bullpen session at Chase Field on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Gallen indicated Sunday that believes he'll be ready for his next scheduled start, which would tentatively line up for Wednesday, and Monday's bullpen backs up this optimism. Assuming he still feels strong Tuesday morning, there appears to be a good chance he'll toe the rubber later this week.... See More ... See Less -

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Dealing with hamstring spasms
Manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Gallen was removed from his start against the Mariners due to spasms in his right hamstring, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The Diamondbacks will continue to monitor Gallen's condition, but the expectation is that he will be fine and may not even have to miss his next start, which is slated for Wednesday. The right-hander surrendered three earned runs across five-plus innings Friday before exiting in the sixth frame, giving him a 3.38 ERA through his first six starts.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Stumbles in San Francisco
Gallen (3-1) was saddled with a loss Saturday in San Francisco, yielding five runs on nine hits and one walk over five frames. He struck out six. Jung Hoo Lee hit Gallen's second pitch in the bottom of the first inning for a home run, and the Giants wound up plating a couple runs on four hits in the opening frame. Patrick Bailey also took Gallen deep in the fifth, representing the first two long balls the righty has surrendered this season. While he walked just one batter, Gallen threw three wild pitches in this one, so he just seemed a tad off in general. He had been rolling prior to Saturday's dud, so Gallen should be able to flush this performance and fare better his next time out.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Blanks Cardinals in win
Gallen (3-0) threw six shutout innings in a win over the Cardinals on Sunday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Gallen continued his excellent start to the season with his second scoreless outing in his last three starts. The Cardinals were able to scatter four hits against him and their only threat came in the second with bases loaded and one out, but Gallen was able to escape without any harm by striking out Brandon Crawford and getting Mike Siani to ground out. Five of his seven strikeouts came from his knuckle curve, as he registered 11 whiffs on the afternoon. He's allowed one run or fewer in three-of-four starts so far and boasts an excellent 1.64 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB in 22 innings. He'll look to keep things rolling his next time out on the road against the Giants.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Fans 10 in no-decision
Gallen did not factor in the decision Monday after punching out 10 batters. He allowed three runs on eight hits during the loss to Colorado. Gallen coughed up a run in the first frame and another pair in the fourth. The 28-year-old righty struck out more batters Monday (10) than he had in his first 11 innings this season. However, he'd only given up one run during those 11 frames. Gallen forced 15 whiffs Monday, including 12 with the knuckle curve. He's currently lined up to face the Cardinals at home this weekend.... Gallen will look to keep rolling in his next outing, tentatively lined up for early next week in Colorado.... See More ... See Less -

He's prepared on the back fields instead of engaging in games; the Diamondbacks opted to ease Gallen into competition after the right-hander threw a career-high 243.2 innings in 2023. Gallen's lined up for three more spring appearances before an expected start Opening Day against Colorado in Phoenix on March 28.... See More ... See Less -

Gallen tossed a live batting-practice session Sunday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. This was the first time facing batters this spring for Gallen, who is prepping for his scheduled Cactus League debut Friday. "I felt all right," the right-hander said. "I mean, I still feel a little rushed, but that's just a timing thing. I think that just comes with time of getting used to seeing hitters again." Gallen, who threw a career-high 243.2 innings combined between the regular season and playoffs in 2023, is being brought along slowly this spring but should be Arizona's Opening Day starter....
