Pallante will make his first big-league start since 2022 on Wednesday as the Cardinals deal with a slew of injuries to their pitching staff. • Joey Gallo 1B | WAS

Nationals' Joey Gallo: Sitting versus southpaw

Gallo is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta.

Gallo had started 10 straight games since returning from the injured list, but he will begin Tuesday's festivities on the bench as Atlanta goes with Max Fried as its starting pitcher. Joey Meneses will cover first base.

  • Eddie Rosario RF | WAS

Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Absent from lineup

Rosario is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta.

Left-hander Max Fried is slated to start for Atlanta, so the lefty-batting Rosario will begin this one on the bench. The veteran outfielder hasn't made a single start versus a southpaw this season.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Sitting against lefty

Garcia is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against Atlanta.

With southpaw Max Fried on the hill for Atlanta, the left-handed hitting Garcia will yield to switch-hitter Ildemaro Vargas at second base. Garcia has made just three starts against lefties this season.

  • Jake Junis RP | MIL

    Brewers' Jakob Junis: Tossing bullpen

Junis (shoulder/head) threw a bullpen session ahead of Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Junis has resumed his throwing program after his rehab from a right shoulder impingement was derailed by a ball that struck him in the head during batting practice April 22. The right-hander was shifted from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL shortly after the incident and is on schedule for a return sometime in June. Hogg also reports that Junis is set for a live bullpen session Friday and would begin a rehab assignment next week if the live bullpen session goes well.

  • Bobby Miller SP | LAD

Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Set for another rehab outing

Miller (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start Friday or Saturday and is scheduled to throw about four inning, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Miller allowed three runs and threw 55 pitches over three frames in his first rehab outing Sunday with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, and it's no surprise he'll require at least one more appearance in the minors before rejoining the Dodgers. The 24-year-old could be back in the big-league rotation as early as next week, but it's also possible he'll require a third rehab outing.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae CF | PIT

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Not in starting nine

Bae is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Bae has been sharing center field with Michael Taylor since being called up, with Taylor getting most of the work against left-handed pitching and Bae taking on right-handers. With southpaw Tarik Skubal on the mound Tuesday, Taylor will start and bat ninth.

  • Brett Kennedy RP | CIN

Reds' Brett Kennedy: Exits 40-man roster

Kennedy was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters for the return of Alex Young (back) from the 60-day injured list. Kennedy was with the Reds for a handful of days and didn't make an appearance.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | ATL

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Stuck on 7-day IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Gwinnett placed Ynoa on its 7-day injured list April 23 with right elbow inflammation, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Ynoa posted a 6.52 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB across 9.2 innings in his first three starts with Gwinnett before hitting the shelf. More than a month after being shut down, Ynoa is still without an official timeline for a return. The 26-year-old right-hander held some fantasy utility in 2021 when he turned in a 4.05 ERA while striking out more than a batter per inning over 17 starts with Atlanta, but he hasn't resurfaced at the big-league level since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2022. While Ynoa still possesses a spot on Atlanta's 40-man roster, he'll still likely find himself behind several other pitchers in the pecking order for a promotion once he's healthy.

  • Alex Young RP | CIN

Reds' Alex Young: Back from injured list

The Reds activated Young (back) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Young is finally ready for his season debut after recovering from low back disc degeneration. The left-handed reliever allowed just one unearned run over 11 innings on his rehab assignment. Young made 63 appearances out of Cincinnati's bullpen in 2023, posting a 3.86 ERA and 50:20 K:BB in 53.2 frames.
