  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Throwing 50-55 pitches in rehab

Gray (elbow) will throw 50-55 pitches during a rehab start with Single-A Fredericksburg on Sunday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Gray got up to 76 pitches during a live BP session prior to being sent on a rehab assignment but will be limited to 50-55 pitches in his first appearance. If all goes well Sunday, Gray will head to Double-A Harrisburg for another rehab start. Gray will likely need at least one more outing after the start at Double-A , making late June a feasible timeline for return.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Rehab assignment up next

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Wednesday that Gray (elbow) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment, and the first start is likely to come Sunday with Single-A Fredericksburg, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The 24-year-old righty made just two starts this season before he landed on the injured list with an elbow strain, but he's now entering the final stage of his rehab program. Gray is expected to throw about four innings during his first outing, and he'll likely need several appearances in the minors before rejoining Washington's rotation.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Could begin rehab assignment soon

Gray (elbow) could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment if a live batting practice session Tuesday goes well, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

Gray threw 76 pitches in a live BP last week and is slated to throw around 50 pitches in Tuesday's session as he continues to ramp back up. As long as he comes out of Tuesday's throwing session with no concerns, he'll likely be sent to a minor-league affiliate. Gray has been out since early April with a right flexor strain, but because he's already fairly stretched out, his rehab assignment might not last more than one or two starts.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Throws live bullpen session

Gray (elbow) threw 76 pitches in a live batting practice session Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASN Sports reports.

Gray mixed in his offspeed and breaking pitches more frequently and increased his pitch count by 26 pitches compared to his first session. He's expected to stay on a five-day rotation, lining him up to throw again Tuesday. Following Tuesday's session, he's expected to progress to the next step of his recovery, presumably a rehab assignment.

  • Nationals' Josiah Gray: Throwing again Saturday

Gray (elbow) will throw a two-inning live batting practice Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Gray continues to recover from a flexor strain in his right elbow that has kept him out of action since April 4. His session Saturday is the next step in his throwing program, and if all goes well, the Nationals could look to send the 26-year-old right-hander on a rehab assignment.
