  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Suffered back injury

Woll sustained a back injury in Game 6 of the first round against the Bruins that resulted in him missing Game 7 on Saturday, ESPN's Kristen Shilton reports. Woll was riding a two-game winning streak when he suffered his back injury. There's been no indication that the 25-year-old backstop won't be ready for the start of training camp in the fall, which could see him challenging for the No. 1 role heading into 2024-25.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Unavailable Saturday

Woll (undisclosed) won't be in the lineup for Game 7 against Boston on Saturday. Woll was injured late in Toronto's 2-1 win over the Bruins on Thursday in Game 6. He has stopped 49 of 51 shots en route to winning the past two outings. With Woll out, Martin Jones will serve as Ilya Samsonov's backup in Saturday's contest.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Forces Game 7

Woll stopped 22 of 23 shots in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Bruins in Game 6. Woll has won back-to-back starts, stopping 49 of 51 shots in that span. The 25-year-old nearly had his first postseason shutout Thursday, but a Morgan Geekie goal in the final second spoiled it. Woll is almost certain to start Saturday's Game 7 in Boston after pulling the Maple Leafs back from the brink following Ilya Samsonov's poor start to the series.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Slated to start Game 6

Woll was the first goaltender off the ice at morning skate, according to Patrick Friolet of RDS,ca, indicating he will defend the home crease versus Boston on Thursday. Woll has been sensational versus the Bruins in the postseason, giving up one goal on 28 shots in a 2-1 overtime win Tuesday in Game 5. He also stopped all five shots he faced in Game 4 after replacing Ilya Samsonov to start the third period. Woll has seen action in just 36 regular-season games in his NHL career, but he looked like a seasoned veteran while prevailing over the Bruins on Tuesday.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Keeps Leafs alive Tuesday

Woll made 27 saves Tuesday in a 2-1 overtime win over the Bruins in Game 5 of the Maple Leafs' first-round series. Facing elimination, the Leafs turned to Woll in net with Ilya Samsonov having looked a bit shaky in the first four games of the series. Woll was brilliant after getting beaten by Trent Frederic midway through the first period. It was Woll's first win since April 9, but he'll likely remain between the pipes when the series shifts back to Toronto for Game 6 on Thursday.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Solid in relief outing

Woll stopped all five shots he faced in relief of Ilya Samsonov in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins in Game 4. Woll played the third period and prevented the score from getting any worse. This was his first playoff action in 2024 after he got into four contests during last year's postseason. Woll went 12-11-1 with a 2.93 GAA and a .907 save percentage over 25 regular-season appearances. The Maple Leafs have not announced their starting goalie for Game 5 on Tuesday yet, but it wouldn't be a shock if Woll got the nod since Samsonov has struggled against the Bruins.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Game still work in progress

Woll made 18 saves in a 5-2 win over New Jersey on Tuesday. Woll's game remains a work in progress since his return from injury. Ilya Samsonov has been strong and is the top dog heading into the postseason. Woll remains the Leafs' future and could be in the net during the playoffs if Samsonov hits a speed wobble.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Not really tested in win

Woll made 23 saves in a 5-1 win over the Capitals on Thursday. Woll was good, but not spectacular. But he didn't need to be. The Leafs overwhelmed the Caps with their speed and that made Woll's job easy. He needs to build up game stamina as the Leafs approach the postseason, but it remains to be seen how coach Sheldon Keefe will deploy Ilya Samsonov (calf) and Woll over the last 10 games or so of the regular season.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Gives up five goals

Woll stopped 19 of 24 shots in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Devils. The sixth goal was an empty-netter. The goaltending for the Maple Leafs has been a struggle and Woll did not make it any better. After a strong showing Sunday, in which he posted a .943 save percentage, he faced fewer shots on the night between the two goalies and still allowed five goals. It does not look like Toronto has decided who the No. 1 netminder is as they head into the playoffs, so fantasy managers will have to keep an eye out as the starters are announced for the remainder of the games.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Facing Devils

Woll will start between the pipes in Tuesday's home game against New Jersey, Sportsnet's Luke Fox reports. Woll was excellent in his last start Sunday against the Hurricanes, stopping 41 of 43 shots, but he still came away with a loss due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. He'll try to get back in the win column in a home matchup with a Devils team that's averaging 3.26 goals on the road this year, tied for seventh in the NHL.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Stops 41 in defeat

Woll stopped 41 of 43 shots in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes. After allowing a pair of goals in the opening frame, Woll settled in and ultimately delivered a stellar performance, blanking Carolina over the final two frames while making a season-high 41 saves. However, the Leafs could only provide one goal in support, sticking Woll with a hard-luck loss. Still, it's an encouraging outing for the 25-year-old netminder, who had struggled to an .849 save percentage in his previous three outings. Overall, Woll's 10-8-1 with a .912 save percentage and 2.86. GAA this season. Toronto will be back in action Tuesday at home versus the Devils.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Will start Sunday

Woll will protect the road goal versus the Hurricanes on Sunday, Mark Masters of TSN reports. Woll won't dress Saturday versus the Oilers, which the Maple Leafs can do while carrying three goalies on the active roster. As a result, he will remain fresh for a challenging start in the second half of Toronto's back-to-back. The 25-year-old has gone 2-2-0 with 13 goals allowed on 105 shots since he returned from an ankle injury at the end of February.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Nabs win No. 10

Woll made 18 saves in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Capitals. Auston Matthews scored just 16 seconds into the game and the Maple Leafs never looked back, carrying Woll to his 10th win of the season. The 25-year-old netminder has made four starts since returning from an ankle injury at the end of February, going 2-2-0 and allowing 13 goals on 105 shots (.876 save percentage). Woll remains firmly behind Ilya Samsonov on the depth chart for Toronto.

Woll is expected to start on the road against Washington on Wednesday, per Mark Masters of TSN. Woll has a 9-7-1 record, 2.89 GAA and .911 save percentage in 18 contests this season. He's struggled recently, stopping just 44 of 52 shots (.846 save percentage) over his past two contests. The 25-year-old might rebound against the Capitals, though -- Washington ranks 28th offensively with 2.66 goals per game, so this is a favorable matchup for Woll.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Scuffling since return from injury

Woll made 22 saves in a 4-1 loss to Boston on Thursday. Woll's timing appeared to be off at times in the game, but it was just his third game since his nearly three-month absence due to a high-ankle injury. He's 1-2-0 in three starts since he came back, including two losses to the Bruins this week where he allowed four goals in each loss. Woll needs to get his timing back after such a long layoff, so be mindful of how you deploy him short term.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Takes first loss since return

Woll allowed four goals on 27 shots during Monday's 4-1 loss to the Bruins. Woll's second start since returning from an ankle injury didn't go as well as his first, where he stopped 30 of 32 shots and grabbed a 4-2 win over the Coyotes. It's hard to predict how he'll perform as he returns from injury, but it's worth keeping an eye on. If he plays well, it's not hard to see him taking the lion's share of starts down the stretch, though Ilya Samsonov has been good at collecting wins lately and should continue to get his fair share of playing time.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Draws start Monday

Woll will be stationed between the pipes for Monday's home tilt with the Bruins, Terry Koshan of The Toronto Sun reports. After missing nearly three months of action, Woll returned to face the Coyotes on Feb. 29 and stopped 30 of 32 shots in a win. He's 9-5-1 this season with a 2.74 GAA and a .918 save percentage through 16 appearances. The 25-year-old should start seeing fairly regular playing time now that he's healthy.

  • Maple Leafs' Joseph Woll: Slick return from injury nets win

Woll (ankle) made 30 saves Thursday in a 4-2 win over the Coyotes. It was Woll's first game since missing the previous 35 contests with a high-ankle sprain sustained Dec. 7. It was his first win since Nov. 30. He was beaten by Alexander Kerfoot on a shorthanded breakaway in the second period and by Logan Cooley on a goal-line rebound in the third. Woll brings a calm to the Leafs net that few others have in the last couple decades. Fantasy mangers should get him back in their lineups.

At the NHL level, he has a provided a record of 8-5-1 with a 2.80 GAA and a .916 save percentage in 15 appearances this season.
