Merkley signed a one-year contract with Kunlun of the KHL on Friday. Merkley spent last season in the AHL, scoring a pair of goals with six assists in 28 games with the Eagles. He started the season with AHL San Jose, managing 14 assists in 30 games before he was dealt to Colorado with Matt Nieto for Jacob MacDonald and Martin Kaut. Merkley has been a bit of a disappointment after being drafted 21st overall in 2018. He'll try to get his career back on track with Kunlun, the lone KHL team playing in China.... See More ... Avalanche's Ryan Merkley: Acquired by Avalanche
Merkley was acquired along with Matt Nieto by Colorado from San Jose in exchange for Jacob MacDonald and Martin Kaut on Wednesday. Merkley has no goals, 14 assists and 26 PIM in 30 games with the AHL's Barracuda in 2022-23. He hasn't played in the NHL this season, but he did score a goal and six points in 39 contests with the Sharks in 2021-22. The 22-year-old has the potential to be part of Colorado's long-term plans, but the Avalanche might keep him in the AHL for now.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Loaned to AHL
Merkley was reassigned to the AHL on Saturday. Merkley will start the year with Barracuda after he was among the team's latest batch of roster cuts. He had six points in 39 games for the Sharks last campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Logs power-play helper
Merkley posted a power-play assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes. Merkley picked up a helper on Scott Reedy's opening goal in the first period. The 21-year-old Merkley has assists in consecutive games for the first time this season. The rookie defenseman seems to have an edge over Radim Simek for playing time. Merkley's up to five points, 26 shots on net, 14 blocked shots, 10 hits and a minus-3 rating through 27 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Pockets assist in win
Merkley notched an assist and two PIM in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Ducks. Merkley found defense partner Marc-Edouard Vlasic with a creative pass on the opening goal in the first period. The 21-year-old Merkley has played in three straight games, and it appears he has an edge for playing time over Radim Simek at this point. Through 26 outings, Merkley's picked up four points, 26 shots on net and a minus-2 rating, mainly playing on the third pairing.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Joins big club

Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Generates power-play helper
Merkley notched a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders. Merkley saw 16:28 of ice time, his third-highest total of the season, due to Nicolas Meloche's (undisclosed) early exit from the contest. Merkley was able to set up Logan Couture's tally in the second period. This was the first power-play point of Merkley's career, and he's at three points, 15 shots on net and a minus-3 rating in 18 contests. If Meloche misses time, there will be room in the lineup for both Merkley and Radim Simek to play in bottom-four roles.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Ascends to top level
Merkley is on the ice for Wednesday's practice, indicating he's been recalled by the Sharks, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Merkley will draw into the lineup for Thursday's game versus Vancouver. The 21-year-old rookie has tallied two points through 15 top-level appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -

His most recent NHL point was an assist that was distributed in a 7-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Jan. 22.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Returns to active roster
Merkley was listed among the scratches for Saturday's game versus the Panthers, indicating he was promoted to the active roster, George Richards of Panthers Press Box reports. Merkley has played a noticeable role for the Sharks this season, but Nicolas Meloche seems to have surpassed him on the depth chart. The 21-year-old Merkley will likely move between levels regularly.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Bumped to taxi squad
Merkley was reassigned to the taxi squad Thursday, per CapFriendly. Merkley has two points and 12 shots on net in 14 contests this season. His move to the taxi squad could just be a paper move -- the Sharks have only six healthy blueliners on their active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Generates assist in loss
Merkley posted an assist and went minus-2 in Saturday's 7-1 loss to the Lightning. Merkley set up Jaycob Megna for the Sharks' lone tally in the blowout loss. Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Will be sent down
Merkley will be reassigned to AHL San Jose on Friday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Merkley scored one goal in six games while with the big club, but the Sharks are expected to get players back for Saturday's game versus the Avalanche. That will leave Merkley to return to the minors, although he could be an option for a call-up later in the season.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Nets first NHL goal
Merkley scored a goal on two shots and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Sabres. Playing just his second NHL game as a COVID-19 outbreak ravages the Sharks' blue line, Merkley was able to tally his first goal. The 21-year-old has held his own in a limited role since he was called up Saturday. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much out of Merkley, who will likely head back to the AHL when some of the team's more veteran blueliners clear the league's virus protocols.... See More ... See Less -
Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Recalled by big club
Merkley was recalled by San Jose on Saturday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. The Sharks are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, so Merkley is expected to make his NHL debut Saturday against the Jets. Sharks' Ryan Merkley: Continues OHL dominance
Merkley scored a goal and added two assists in OHL London's 6-3 loss to Windsor on Sunday. He fired a game-high six shots on goal for good measure. Merkley has been a dominant offense force (37 points, 86 shots on goal) through his first 28 games with London, although his play in his own zone remains a work in progress. Again passed over for a spot on the Canadian World Junior roster, Merkley should put up monster numbers while many of the league's best players are away through New Year's representing their countries....
