McCarthy went homerless in his first 92 plate appearances this season before tagging Dean Kremer for a two-run shot in the sixth frame. Despite the power woes, McCarthy owns a .366 on-base percentage and has swiped three bases. He's also struck out merely three times in his last 29 plate appearances.

McCarthy maintains a .369 on-base percentage over 86 plate appearances this season and has seemingly moved into an everyday role in the outfield while Alek Thomas (hamstring) is on the shelf, but the 26-year-old McCarthy will hit the bench Wednesday. The Diamondbacks haven't indicated that the lefty-hitting McCarthy is dealing with an injury, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter in Tuesday's 6-2 win and is now on the bench Wednesday while the Reds bring a right-hander (Graham Ashcraft) to the hill. Pavin Smith will replace McCarthy in the Arizona outfield.

Diamondbacks' Jake McCarthy: Three hits Sunday
McCarthy went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 11-4 win over the Padres.
McCarthy had an RBI double and two singles on the evening and came around to score all three times he reached base. In 11 games since April 19, McCarthy is slashing .371/.452/.457 and has consistently been hitting leadoff for the Diamondbacks. Things may get a bit murky with Alek Thomas (hamstring) set to return to the big club this week, as it's currently unclear how manager Torey Lovullo plans to split up playing time between the two once Thomas is officially back in the fold.

McCarthy started in right field, batted leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a triple and an RBI in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Mariners.
McCarthy was back in the starting lineup after sitting out the previous two games and tripled home the Diamondbacks' lone run in the eighth inning. This was his first time batting atop the order, as primary leadoff hitter Ketel Marte was moved to third. With the triple, McCarthy extended his hit streak to six games, and he has gone 8-for-18 with three walks, two RBI and four runs over that period.

McCarthy started in left field and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to St. Louis.
McCarthy slotted in for Lourdes Gurriel, who was rested for an afternoon tilt following a night game. McCarthy has been on a roll, hitting safely in seven of eight contests at 9-for-24 (.375) with three walks, two steals, three RBI and five runs. He'll continue to make three or four starts per week until Alek Thomas (hamstring) is ready to return. The injured outfielder has begun taking batting practice and is ready to run the bases, per Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic.
