  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Nabs fourth steal

Freeman went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Monday's 2-1 win over the Tigers.

Freeman opened May 1-for-12 across four contests, and his last multi-hit effort before Monday was April 19. The 24-year-old is slashing just .204/.301/.347 this season while adding three home runs, four steals, 12 RBI, 17 runs scored and five doubles across 113 plate appearances. With Steven Kwan (hamstring) landing on the injured list Monday, Freeman should have more job security in center field while Estevan Florial, Ramon Laureano and Will Brennan combine to fill the corner outfield spots.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Absent from lineup

Freeman is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Houston.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Swipes bag, scores twice

Freeman went 1-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox.

Freeman's RBI single in the seventh inning got the Guardians on the board, and he came around to score on a sacrifice fly. He's started to separate himself in a crowded battle for playing time, going 7-for-19 (.368) with two home runs and five RBI over his last six games. Freeman is slashing .222/.296/.413 with three homers, 12 RBI, three steals and 12 runs scored through 71 plate appearances as Cleveland's primary center fielder.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Belts third homer

Freeman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and scored twice during a 10-2 victory over Oakland on Friday.

Freeman's home run wasn't exactly a towering blast, as it only traveled a projected 331 feet, but it was enough to give Cleveland the lead in the second inning. The 24-year-old infielder has been struggling at the plate to begin the season; however, he is now 5-for-12 with two homers, three RBI and five runs scored across his last three games.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Big day at Fenway

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 10-7 extra-innings win over the Red Sox.

The 24-year-old took aim at the Green Monster in Fenway Park, sending his second homer of the year over it in the fifth inning against Joely Rodriguez before beginning a game-tying rally in the ninth with a double off the left-field landmark. Freeman has struggled at the plate overall to begin his first full season in the majors, and through 14 games he's slashing .184/.241/.347 with two steals, seven runs and eight RBI while playing nearly every day in center field.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Resting in Game 2

Freeman isn't in the Guardians' lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Yankees.

After going 0-for-4 with an RBI en route to a loss in Saturday's first game, Freeman will retreat to the bench for Game 2. While he rests, Steven Kwan, Ramon Laureano and Estevan Florial will start across Cleveland's outfield.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Not in lineup Wednesday

Freeman isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.

Freeman has now started nine of 12 contests in center field this season for the Guardians, but he'll take a seat for the series finale with the White Sox. Ramon Laureano will patrol center in Freeman's stead.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Picks up second steal

Freeman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 4-0 win over the White Sox.

Freeman is playing fairly regularly as the Guardians' preferred center fielder, though Ramon Laureano and Estevan Florial have also seen some time there. The steal was Freeman's second of the campaign. He's hit safely in five of eight contests, batting just .194 with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and a double over 35 plate appearances. Freeman is not established enough in a starting role to be able to afford a dry spell at the plate, though neither Laureano (.222) nor Florial (.182) has pressed the issue yet.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Heads to bench Wednesday

Freeman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

He'll give way to Estevan Florial in center field after starting in five of the Guardians' first six games of the season while hitting .211 with a home run and a stolen base.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Swats first long ball

Freeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to the Mariners.

Freeman brought the Guardians to within two runs with his sixth-inning solo blast, but his team ultimately fell short. The long ball was the first of the campaign for the 24-year-old, who never hit more than six homers over a season in the minors. Freeman is better known for his speed and bat-to-ball ability, and he's attempting to use that skill set to hold down a near-everyday role in center field after playing mostly in the infield as a minor-leaguer.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Getting run in center field

Freeman went 1-for-5 with a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 12-3 win over the Athletics.

Platoons are emerging in right field and at designated hitter, but the right-handed Freeman has started all three games in center field so far. He's done fairly well, going 3-for-12 with two RBI, two walks, two runs scored and one steal on two attempts. It's not enough to say confidently he'll be the starter in center all season -- the Athletics are a soft season-opening series for a Guardians team trying to figure out its best alignment. Still, it's encouraging Freeman is getting early at-bats, though he's yet to excel in any one area. Should Freeman stumble, Estevan Florial represents a possible platoon partner.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Makes roster

Freeman will be on the Guardians' Opening Day roster, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports Friday.

Freeman's defensive versatility likely played a big part in making the roster, as he hit a modest .286 with a .784 OPS over 11 Cactus League games. The 24-year-old provides cover around the infield and also saw ample playing time in center field during spring training. Center is one of the weak spots in the Guardians' lineup and the team is moving on from Myles Straw, who was waived. In addition to Freeman, Estevan Florial and Ramon Laureano could also see time in center, with Florial the only one of the trio who hits from the left side of the plate.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Offers utility upside

Freeman has gone 4-for-14 over six Cactus League games.

Freeman has a home run, three RBI and two stolen bases so far this spring. A natural infielder, Freeman is blocked by Jose Ramirez at third base (his natural position) and Andres Gimenez at second base. Shortstop remains wide open, and Freeman is also getting looks in center field this spring, where he's competing with Myles Straw and Estevan Florial. Versatility should be a boon for Freeman's quest to begin 2024 in the majors even if he has to settle for a short-side platoon role.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Goes deep in loss

Freeman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Tigers.

Freeman homered twice over his last four games of the season, giving him four long balls on the year. The infielder also posted a .242/.295/.366 slash line over 168 plate appearances. He added 18 RBI, 20 runs scored and five stolen bases, and he should have a chance to compete for a larger role in spring training next year.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Knocks third homer

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 7-5 win over the Tigers.

The multi-hit effort was Freeman's first since July 9, though his playing time has been limited. The 24-year-old infielder has gone 9-for-40 (.225) over 17 games in September while swatting two of his three homers on the season. He's batting .242 with a .645 OPS, five stolen bases, 17 RBI and 19 runs scored through 62 contests overall.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Productive in win

Freeman went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Freeman got the Guardians on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the second to score Ramon Laureano and later came around to score the team's second run after stealing second. It was only the third baseman's seventh hit this month, where he's now batting .200 with six RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases.

  • Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Homers in blowout loss

Freeman went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 20-6 loss to the Twins.

Freeman has homered twice over his last four games, though that's in a stretch dating back to Aug. 26. The young infielder isn't seeing steady playing time as the Guardians instead lean on veterans while trying to compete for the AL Central lead. Freeman has added nine RBI, 15 runs scored and three stolen bases while slashing .238/.306/.354 over 126 plate appearances this season.
