Diaz exited Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Padres with left hand soreness and will be held out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale, MLB.com reports. He struck out in his lone plate appearance on the day. Diaz exited in the third inning with recurring hand soreness. He's not expected to miss additional time beyond Wednesday's contest, but Jacob Stallings should be behind the dish for Colorado's series finale Wednesday.... See More ... See Less

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Two-run blast in loss
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Giants. Diaz drove in Colorado's third run of the game with an infield single in the bottom of the fifth and later added a two-run shot in the ninth to bring his team back within two runs of the Giants, though his effort would fall short. It marked the catcher's third multi-hit game already this month, and he's now hit safely in five of his last six contests. The home run was only Diaz's third of the season, though he's now batting .348 in May with four RBI and three extra-base hits.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Gets rest for day game
Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. He'll get a well-deserved breather Thursday after starting at catcher or designated hitter in each of the Rockies' last nine games. Jacob Stallings will replace Diaz behind the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Slugs second homer
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday. Diaz accounted for half of the Rockies' runs in the contest with his solo shot to center field in the eighth inning. The blast snapped a 19-game homerless drought for the backstop, who belted 14 long balls last season. Despite the modest power output thus far, Diaz has had a nice start to the campaign with a .312/.357/.429 slash line and 11 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Productive in Game 2
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mariners. Diaz delivered Colorado's only offense with a two-RBI double in the opening frame. That continued a hot start to the campaign, as he has at least one hit in 11 of his last 13 games while also racking up nine RBI and five runs scored in that span.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Six-game hitting streak
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Blue Jays. Diaz delivered singles in each of his first two at-bats, coming around to score after the first while driving in a run with the latter. The performance extended his hitting streak to six games, the first five of which came at Coors Field. Diaz has started 10 of the first 14 contests of the season and should remain the Rockies' primary catcher.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Resting Wednesday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. Diaz will get a breather for the day game after he caught both of the first two contests of the series while going 3-for-7 with a pair of RBI to extend his hitting streak to five games. Jacob Stallings will check in for Diaz behind the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Receives maintenance day
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Diaz will retreat to the bench for the series finale after he went 4-for-8 with two RBI while starting behind the plate both Friday and Saturday. Jacob Stallings will handle catching duties for the Rockies on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Day off Wednesday
Diaz is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. It's a routine day off for Diaz, who is 3-for-17 with a home run in his first five games this season. Jacob Stallings will do the catching for starting pitcher Cal Quantrill.... See More ... Rockies' Elias Diaz: First homer of 2024
Diaz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Diamondbacks. He made his lone hit of the game count when he took Merrill Kelly deep in the second inning to tally his first homer of the season. Diaz has hit sixth in each of Colorado's first two games and has two hits across seven plate appearances. The Rockies are reportedly looking to rest the 33-year-old more often in 2024 and have Jacob Stallings on the roster as a reliable defender, so Diaz should be on the bench for one of the series' final two games this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Could rest more in 2024
The Rockies hope to rest Diaz more in 2024 after acquiring Jacob Stallings in the offseason, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Diaz earned a career-high 526 plate appearances and suited up in 141 games in 2023, primarily because the Rockies lacked a reliable second catcher. The addition of Stallings gives the team a solid defensive backstop, and Diaz is likely to see less volume as a result. Given his mediocre .725 OPS and .142 ISO from a year ago, his fantasy value is likely to take at least a moderate hit.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Sitting for season finale
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. The 32-year-old started the first two games versus Minnesota but will sit for the series and season finale Sunday. Barring an appearance off the bench, Diaz will close the campaign with a .266/.314/.408 slash line with 14 homers and 72 RBI in 140 contests as he enters the final year of his contract in 2024. Austin Wynns is catching for Chase Anderson in the season finale.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: On bench Thursday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers. Diaz gets a breather after going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the Rockies' loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday. Austin Wynns will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: On bench for early game
Diaz is not in the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers. Austin Wynns will catch and bat eighth for the Rockies in the early tilt at Coors Field, with Diaz presumably lined up to start the nightcap. Diaz, 32, is sitting on 14 home runs and 72 RBI through 136 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Taking seat Wednesday
Diaz is not in the lineup for Wednesday contest in San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Diaz has tailed off at the plate in the second half and has been given more days off down the stretch. He will begin this one on the bench while Austin Wynns does the catching for Chase Anderson.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Gets Sunday off
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Giants. Diaz started in the night game of the doubleheader Saturday but not in the first game. The catcher will get the expected day off Sunday with it being a day game after a night game. In the series against the Giants, Diaz has gone 1-for-7. Austin Wynns will get the start at catcher Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: On bench Wednesday
Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cubs. Diaz will be on the bench for the third time in seven games. Before this stretch, he had appeared in 14 straight games. Austin Wynns will start at catcher and bat ninth in the All-Star's place.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Receives Sunday off
Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at San Francisco. Diaz started the first two games of the series against the Giants and will take a seat for the finale after going 2-for-8 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs. Austin Wynns will step in behind the plate to catch for Peter Lambert.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Blasts three-run homer
Diaz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Giants. Diaz went 12 games between homers, hitting a modest .244 with three doubles and five RBI in that span. The catcher's blast put the Rockies ahead in the seventh inning, but their offense stalled out while the Giants rallied over the next two frames. Diaz is slashing .267/.313/.419 with 14 long balls, 67 RBI, 42 runs scored and a stolen base over 124 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Elias Diaz: Takes seat Wednesday
