Realmuto (knee) will start at catcher and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Mets. Realmuto will re-enter the starting nine after sitting out each of the past three games while managing a sore right knee. Provided he doesn't experience any setbacks in his return to action, Realmuto should resume handling one of the heftier workloads in the league among No. 1 catchers, though it wouldn't be surprising if the Phillies gave him a breather later this week or had him serve as a designated hitter for a game.... Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Expected back Wednesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday that he expects Realmuto (knee) to return to the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Realmuto missed a third straight start Tuesday because of right knee soreness. However, he got in a productive workout pregame, and as long as he doesn't have any sort of setback, it appears he'll be back in there for Wednesday's tilt in Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Works out pregame Tuesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Realmuto (knee) did some work on the field and in the batting cage pregame Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Thomson noted that Realmuto's right knee is feeling better, but the skipper was not ready to commit to the catcher returning to the lineup Wednesday. Realmuto is missing a third straight start Tuesday. Garrett Stubbs has been filling in behind the plate for the Phils.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Held out again Tuesday
Realmuto (knee) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Mets. It will be the third straight start Realmuto has missed as he deals with right knee soreness. There doesn't seem to be concern yet about a potential injured-list stint for Realmuto, but the possibility certainly increases the more time he misses. Garrett Stubbs will again handle the catching duties for the Phillies on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Out Monday with knee injury
Realmuto (knee) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Realmuto will be on the bench for a second straight game with what the Phillies are characterizing as right knee soreness. The veteran backstop said he first picked up the injury while legging out a triple in the Phillies' May 4 game against the Giants, and his knee hasn't improved in the week since. Neither Realmuto nor the Phillies are concerned yet about him requiring a stint on the injured list, though that could be a stronger possibility if he's not able to return to the lineup within the next couple of days. Garrett Stubbs will fill in for Realmuto behind the plate Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Taking seat Tuesday
Realmuto is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays. It's a rare day off for Realmuto, who has reached base eight times over the last three games. Garrett Stubbs will get a start behind the plate for the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Tallies three hits in win
Realmuto went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's win over the Giants. Realmuto slid into the No. 2 spot in the order with Trea Turner (hamstring) recently being placed on the injured list. He singled in the third and came home on Bryce Harper's three-run homer and would wind up notching two more base hits before his night was over. Sunday was the first three-hit effort of the season for Realmuto and his seventh multi-hit game. For the year, he's now slashing .259/.315/.431 with five homers, 14 RBI, 18 runs and a 9:34 BB:K in 127 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Plates three runs in win
Realmuto went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI in Sunday's 8-6 win over the Padres. Realmuto won the battle against Michael King in the sixth, sending a 421-foot blast to left center to put the Phillies up 6-3. He gave them some additional insurance with an RBI single in the seventh as well. Realmuto's now hit safely in six of his last seven games and has five RBI over his last three. For the year, he's slashing .245/.292/.429 with five homers, 14 RBI, 14 runs and a 6:28 BB:K in 106 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Gets rest day
Realmuto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. Garrett Stubbs will get a turn behind the plate while Realmuto receives a day off for the first time since April 13. Realmuto had started at catcher in each of Philadelphia's last nine games, going 7-for-37 (.189 average) with one home run and one stolen base over that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Sits down Saturday
Realmuto isn't in the Phillies' lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates. Realmuto will get a breather Saturday after going 1-for-7 with a run scored through the first two games of the series. Garrett Stubbs will take over behind the plate and bat seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Back in lineup Wednesday
Realmuto (neck) will start at catcher and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game in St. Louis. Realmuto departed Tuesday's 3-0 loss when a pitch in the dirt bounced up and caught him in the throat. Even with the Phillies and Cardinals playing a day game after a night game, he's feeling well enough to give it a go Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Dealing with bruised neck
Realmuto (neck) will be evaluated again Wednesday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Realmuto is dealing with a bruised neck after taking a Zack Wheeler slider off of his neck in the seventh inning Tuesday, putting his availability in doubt for the immediate future. The catcher's status will receive another update Wednesday after he undergoes additional testing, and if he's forced to miss any time, Garrett Stubbs will likely operate as the team's primary catcher.... Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Exits early versus Cardinals
Realmuto was forced to exit Tuesday's matchup with the Cardinals early with a throat injury, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Realmuto took an errant slider from Zack Wheeler off the throat after it took an odd bounce off the dirt in the bottom of the seventh inning, bringing his night to a premature end. Garrett Stubbs replaced him behind the plate and the catcher's status will likely be updated following the contest.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Takes seat Monday
Realmuto is not in the lineup for Monday's game at St. Louis. Realmuto went 0-for-3 with a walk Sunday to end a six-game hit streak during which he went 9-for-24 with two homers, and he'll hit the bench for Monday against the Cardinals. Garrett Stubbs will start at catcher and bat eighth in the series opener.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Provides offense in win
Realmuto went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Nationals. Realmuto came around to score Philadelphia's first run of the game on an Alec Bohm triple in the second inning before blasting a three-run shot in the next frame to extend the lead to four runs. It was the catcher's second long ball of the season, and he's tallied two hits in back-to-back contests. Furthermore, Realmuto has now hit safely in six straight after going 0-for-3 in the Phillies' first game of the season, raising his average to .333 in the process.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Receives Tuesday off
Realmuto is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. Realmuto went 4-for-14 with a solo homer, two walks and an additional run scored across the first four games of the season, but he'll take a seat for Tuesday's contest. Garrett Stubbs will step in behind the plate to catch for Spencer Turnbull.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Pops first homer of season
Realmuto went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 12-4 loss to Atlanta. The 33-year-old catcher tagged Jesse Chavez for his first long ball of the season in the third inning, but the Phillies were already in a 7-3 hole before he'd even stepped into the batter's box. Realmuto's .762 OPS last year was his lowest mark since 2015, his first full season in the majors, while his 25.7 percent strikeout rate was a career worst. Even so, he still delivered 20 homers and 16 steals in 135 games, and unless the bottom completely falls out for him in 2024, Realmuto should be one of the top fantasy options behind the plate.... Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Set for spring debut Wednesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Realmuto is on track to make his Grapefruit League debut Wednesday versus Atlanta, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Realmuto and first baseman Bryce Harper have been spectators for the Phillies' first four spring games, but neither is dealing with an injury and both are just getting extra time to ramp up before being thrust into action. Because Realmuto will likely shoulder one of the heavier workloads among all catchers in the league during the upcoming season, the Phillies will likely ease up on his usage during the spring and instead hand Garrett Stubbs, Rafael Marchan (back) and Cam Gallagher more opportunities behind the dish. Largely because of the high volume of starts he's historically handled, Realmuto will likely continue to be drafted as a top-five fantasy catcher, even though he may be more of a neutral rather than a positive asset in batting average these days after he hit .252 while striking out at a career-worst 25.7 percent clip in 2023.... Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Not in Sunday's lineup
Realmuto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. The Phillies have the No. 1 wild-card seed locked up, so it's not a surprise Realmuto is on the bench for the regular-season finale. The 32-year-old's .762 OPS in 135 games this year will be the lowest since his first full MLB season in 2015.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Idle for nightcap
Realmuto isn't in the Phillies' lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. Realmuto will get a breather to conclude Saturday's activities after going 2-for-3 and with a run during the Game 1 loss. Garrett Stubbs will fill in behind the plate and bat seventh.... See More ...
