  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Shut down for at least one month

Schmidt (lat) will be shut down for 4-to-6 weeks, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Schmidt landed on the injured list Thursday, and he'll be in line for a lengthy absence. He'll be sidelined until the All-Star break, leaving the Yankees shorthanded in the rotation until Gerrit Cole (elbow) can return.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Placed on injured list

The Yankees placed Schmidt on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Schmidt gave up two runs (one earned) in five innings during Sunday's loss to the Padres, and he appears to have injured his lat in the process. His move to the IL is backdated to Monday, so the 28-year-old right-hander will be able to return beginning June 11. In the meantime, Cody Morris will come up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the opening on New York's roster.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Stuck with loss Sunday

Schmidt (5-3) took the loss Sunday against the Padres after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings.

Schmidt took a tough-luck loss in a game during which he took a shutout into the sixth inning. The first two batters in the frame would reach via an error and a walk before Schmidt turned things over to the bullpen. From there, Victor Gonzalez would allow both inherited runners to score. Schmidt registered a solid 16 whiffs on the afternoon and has recorded six or more strikeouts in five straight starts. The 28-year-old is showing signs of a legit breakout campaign and will carry a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB (60.2 innings) into a projected matchup with the Giants this weekend.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Solid showing in loss

Schmidt (5-2) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out six.

Although Schmidt's scoreless-inning streak ended at 17 frames, he didn't allow more than three runs -- something he's yet to do this season. Dylan Moore inflicted all the damage on Schmidt, launching a two-run homer in the third inning. On the year, Schmidt boasts a 2.59 ERA with a 61:17 K:BB over 55.2 innings and owns his best strikeout rate since becoming a full-time big-leaguer in 2022. The 28-year-old is scheduled to face the Padres in San Diego on Sunday.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Twirls eight scoreless

Schmidt (5-1) earned the win Thursday against Minnesota, allowing three hits and no walks across eight scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

Schmidt hasn't allowed a run in 15.2 consecutive innings dating back to his May 4 start against Detroit. The 28-year-old was utterly dominant Thursday, setting a season high in punchouts while tying his season low in hits allowed. Schmidt is well on his way to a career year -- he owns a 2.49 ERA in 50.2 innings -- as a back-end starter in one of baseball's best rotations. He'll look to extend his scoreless streak early next week in Seattle.

  • Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Blanks Tampa for fourth win

Schmidt (4-1) earned the win Friday over the Rays, allowing five hits and two walks over 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out six.

It's the first quality start of the season for Schmidt, as he hadn't pitched more than 5.2 innings prior to Friday, but he's won three of his last four outings. The 28-year-old lowered his ERA to 2.95 with a 1.27 WHIP and 47:15 K:BB across eight starts (42.2 innings) this season. He's currently slated for a road matchup with the Twins in his next start.
