Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Day off Saturday
1m agoGrissom isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Saturday was a planned off day for Grissom, as the Red Sox will try to ease the 23-year-old back after he missed the first month of the season due to a hamstring injury. David Hamilton will start at the keystone and bat eighth while Grissom sits.
-
Austin Wells NYY C
Yankees' Austin Wells: Gets breather Saturday
11m agoWells isn't in the Yankees' lineup Saturday against the Tigers.

-
Javier Baez DET SS
Tigers' Javier Baez: Sitting Saturday
14m agoBaez isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Baez will get a breather Saturday after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout during Friday's series opener. His absence will allow Zach McKinstry to start at shortstop while batting eighth.
-
Jake Rogers DET C
Tigers' Jake Rogers: Idle Saturday
16m agoRogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Rogers will sit out Saturday's contest despite recording a base hit in six of his last seven games. Carson Kelly will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth.
-
Michael Lorenzen TEX SP
Rangers' Michael Lorenzen: Quality start in no-decision
24m agoLorenzen allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters in six innings during Friday's loss to the Royals. He didn't factor into the decision.
Despite allowing a fair amount of traffic on the bases, Lorenzen was able to keep the Royals' bats quiet for six innings outside of a fifth-inning solo home run off the bat of Hunter Renfroe. Lorenzen now sports a 3.52 ERA through across 23 innings through his first four starts, and he should have an opportunity to stay hot as he faces the A's in Oakland on Wednesday.
-
Salvador Perez KC C
Royals' Salvador Perez: Slugs eighth homer
25m agoPerez went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run during Friday's 7-1 victory over the Rangers.
Perez's three-run shot off Jose Urena capped off a six-run seventh inning for the Royals and extended the backstop's hitting streak to four games. He has yet to show any signs of slowing down at the plate, slashing .351/.413/.605 with eight homers and 30 RBI across his first 126 plate appearances.

Tyler Stephenson CIN C
Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Hitless in return
2h agoStephenson went 0-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Orioles.
Stephenson missed the last four games while dealing with a hand injury resulting from a hit-by-pitch last Saturday. He had been available off the bench if needed.
-
Willson Contreras STL C
Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Perfect day at dish
10h agoContreras went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's win over the White Sox.
Contreras scored runs in the first and fifth innings, both coming via Nolan Arenado doubles. Since his last multi-hit game April 17, Contreras was stuck in a 9-for-43 (.209) slump in 12 games. Despite the streakiness, he still owns a strong .281/.395/.531 slash line through 114 plate appearances.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Exits with blurred vision
14h agoBailey was removed from Friday's game against the Phillies due to blurred vision, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Bailey was struck in the face mask by a foul tip off the bat of Alec Bohm during the first inning of Friday's contest and was later replaced by Tom Murphy in the second frame. The Giants are still in the process of evaluating Bailey, but an update on his status may be available after the game.
-
Nolan Schanuel LAA 1B
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Homers in win
27m agoSchanuel went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, scored twice and drew a walk during Friday's 6-0 win over Cleveland.
Schanuel's third-inning shot off Tanner Bibee put the Angels up 1-0, and singles in the fifth and eighth innings would help the 22-year-old secure his third multi-hit game in his last four contests. He has now hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games while slashing .388/.423/.531 with two homers and six RBI in that stretch.
-
Christian Encarnacion-Strand CIN 1B
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Returns to action
2h agoEncarnacion-Strand went 0-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to Baltimore.
Encarnacion-Strand missed the last four games with a hand injury. His first full season in the majors has gotten off to a rocky start: the first baseman is slashing .190/.216/.305 over 111 plate appearances. His strikeout rate is nearly identical to what it was in 2023, but the walk rate is about half of what it was last year and Encarnacion-Strand is in the fifth percentile in chase percentage.
-
Jake Cronenworth SD 1B
Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Goes yard again
10h agoCronenworth went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in Friday's win over Arizona.
Cronenworth smacked a 398-foot home run off Slade Cecconi in the fourth inning to give him his third homer in five games. The Padres first baseman also extended his hit streak to seven games, batting .370 (10-for-27) during that time. Cronenworth has started the season on a tear, slashing .279/.353/.516 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored over 142 plate appearances.
-
Joey Gallo WAS 1B
Nationals' Joey Gallo: Cleared for rehab assignment
19h agoGallo (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Fredericksburg on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
It's a relatively quick turnaround for Gallo, who went on the injured list less than a week ago with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. Because he's missed so little time, Gallo shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated.
-
Christian Encarnacion-Strand CIN 1B
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Back in action Friday
21h agoEncarnacion-Strand (hand) will start at first base and bat fifth in Friday's game versus the Orioles.
Encarnacion-Strand missed four starts due to lingering left hand soreness following a hit-by-pitch over the weekend, but he's ready to go now. The 24-year-old has slashed a disappointing .196/.222/.314 with a 28.7 percent strikeout rate in 25 contests with the Reds this season.
-
Josh Bell MIA 1B
Marlins' Josh Bell: Clubs fourth homer
1d agoBell went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's extra-inning win over the Rockies.
The first baseman lofted a Peter Lambert curveball over the right-field fence in the third inning, tying the game at 3-3. Bell has struggled out of the gate this season, slashing .185/.273/.306 through 33 contests with four homers, 11 RBI and 16 runs, but the streaky slugger may be heating up -- he went 4-for-12 in the three-game sweep of Colorado.
-
Zack Gelof OAK 2B
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Throws across infield practice
9h agoGelof (oblique) threw across the infield before Friday's game against the Marlins, the Associated Press reports.
Gelof was cleared for baseball activities Wednesday, when he began fielding grounders and playing catch. His ability to do some more aggressive throwing Friday is certainly another encouraging benchmark, although it remains unclear when he'll be ready to pick up a bat again.
-
Edouard Julien MIN 2B
Twins' Edouard Julien: Reached base three times
12h agoJulien went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two walks and a stolen base in Friday's win over Boston.
Julien was stuck in an 0-for-11 drought since his last hit April 27. The lefty slugger drove in a run with a third-inning single before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. He's now slashing .222/.342/.485 with 14 RBI and two stolen bases through 31 appearances.
-
Luis Garcia WAS 2B
Nationals' Luis Garcia: Big homer off bench Friday
12h agoGarcia went 1-for-1 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays.
The 23-year-old began the night on the bench with Yusei Kikuchi toeing the rubber for Toronto, but Garcia got the call to pinch hit for Trey Lipscomb in the seventh inning once the southpaw was out of the game. Garcia delivered, launching the first pitch he saw from Erik Swanson to straightaway center field to put the Nationals in the lead for good. The long ball was his second of the season, and the first pinch-hit blast of his career. Garcia is headed toward a breakout campaign, slashing .300/.344/.456 through 27 contests with five steals, six runs and 14 RBI.
-
Luis Arraez MIA 2B
Padres' Luis Arraez: Headed to San Diego
13h agoThe Marlins traded Arraez to the Padres on Friday in exchange for Dillon Head, Woo-suk Go, Nathan Martorella and Jakob Marsee, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
It's not immediately clear how Arraez will fit into the Padres' lineup, as San Diego already has a strong infield unit that includes Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim and Manny Machado, but it's possible Arraez fills in as the Friars' primary designated hitter. The 27-year-old is slashing .299/.347/.372 across 148 plate appearances so far this season, and his departure from Miami leaves Vidal Brujan as the favorite to take over as the Marlins' main second baseman.
-
Tommy Edman STL 2B
Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Increasing baseball activiteis
15h agoEdman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after being limited to the right side due to his surgically repaired right wrist. He was also seen tracking fly balls during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman still appears far away from a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing.
-
Brandon Drury LAA 2B
Angels' Brandon Drury: Sidelined again Friday
18h agoDrury (migraine) isn't part of Friday's lineup against the Guardians.
Drury was scratched from Wednesday's contest due to a migraine, and while it hasn't been confirmed that it's the injury holding him out of Friday's game, it can be assumed that that's the case. Luis Rengifo will make another start at second with Ehire Adrianza over at third.
-
Jon Berti NYY 3B
Yankees' Jon Berti: Returns from IL
1h agoThe Yankees reinstated Berti (groin) from the injured list Saturday.
Berti will return to the active roster after playing in three rehab games at Double-A Somerset, going 1-for-9 with three walks and a run scored while also stealing a base. His return gives New York additional depth at numerous positions and will cause Taylor Trammell to be designated for assignment in order to create a roster spot.
-
Nolan Arenado STL 3B
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Collects three RBI
10h agoArenado went 2-for-4 with two doubles and there RBI in Friday's win over the White Sox.
Arenado gave St. Louis an early lead with a two-run double in the first inning before adding another RBI double in the fifth. Over his previous 13 games, he posted a disappointing .614 OPS with just one multi-hit performance. Friday's game was the first time he drove in multiple runs since April 20. Arenado is slashing .279/.338/.369 with nine extra-base hits and 16 RBI through 32 games.
-
Brett Baty NYM 3B
Mets' Brett Baty: Goes yard twice in loss
12h agoBaty went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Rays.
The young third baseman took Aaron Civale deep for a three-run blast in the second inning to open the scoring, and he then connected for a solo shot off Jason Adam in the ninth. It was the first multi-homer performance of Baty's big-league career, and it snapped a 27-game drought for the 24-year-old -- his only other long ball in 2024 came back on March 30. Despite the power outage, Baty has taken a big step forward in his development this year, and through 30 contests he's slashing .271/.340/.385, a massive improvement on last season's .212/.275/.323 line.
-
Ryan McMahon COL 3B
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Launches fifth homer
13h agoMcMahon went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 win over the Pirates.
The 29-year-old led off the sixth inning by hammering a Martin Perez changeup out of PNC Park completely and into the Allegheny River, becoming only the second Colorado player in history to accomplish the feat after Todd Helton back in 2001. Three of McMahon's five homers this year have come in the last eight games, and the power surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .319/.407/.513 with 13 runs and 19 RBI in 32 contests.
-
Danny Mendick CHW 3B
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Battling back tightness
17h agoMendick was scratched from the White Sox's lineup for Friday's game against St. Louis due to lower-back tightness, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
The severity of Mendick's injury remains unknown, but it is apparently enough to prevent him from starting Friday's contest. Braden Shewmake will serve as Chicago's replacement third baseman while batting ninth.
-
Royce Lewis MIN 3B
Twins' Royce Lewis: Could return in late May
18h agoLewis (quad) is on target to return around the original eight-week mark in late-May, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Per Hayes, Lewis is progressing well and has started to increase baseball activities. At his one-month checkup, he was healing as expected and he's at five weeks, as of Friday's report.
-
Vaughn Grissom BOS SS
Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Day off Saturday
1m agoGrissom isn't in the Red Sox's lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Saturday was a planned off day for Grissom, as the Red Sox will try to ease the 23-year-old back after he missed the first month of the season due to a hamstring injury. David Hamilton will start at the keystone and bat eighth while Grissom sits.
-
Javier Baez DET SS
Tigers' Javier Baez: Sitting Saturday
14m agoBaez isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.
Baez will get a breather Saturday after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout during Friday's series opener. His absence will allow Zach McKinstry to start at shortstop while batting eighth.
-
David Hamilton BOS SS
Red Sox's David Hamilton: Expected to start Saturday
1h agoHamilton is expected to start at second base Saturday, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Vaughn Grissom was activated Friday and made his season debut as the starting second baseman, but he'll be held out of the lineup for Saturday's afternoon game following a night game. Hamilton will be playing for the first time since April 27 and making his first start since April 25.
-
Vaughn Grissom BOS SS
Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Hitless in debut
1h agoGrissom started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Twins.
Grissom made his season debut after spending the first month of the season on the injured list with a hamstring injury. Red Sox manager Alex Cora told Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe that Grissom would sit Saturday before returning to play second base Sunday.
-
Corey Seager TEX SS
Rangers' Corey Seager: Fighting slump
1h agoSeager went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 7-1 loss to Kansas City.
Seager delivered the Rangers' lone run with a single in the third inning. He's been mired in a slump and entered Friday's game batting .073 (3-for-41) with two RBI over the previous 11 games. Rangers general manager took the long view when speaking with Kenndi Landry of MLB.com, indicating the club expected Seager to need some time to get going after undergoing hernia surgery in January. Young also feels there has been some bad luck, which speaks to the shortstop's .269 BABIP.
-
Masyn Winn STL SS
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Snags fifth steal
9h agoWinn went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-0 win over the White Sox.
Winn reached on an error in the fourth inning, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch, but he was left there. The rookie shortstop has cooled off with no multi-hit efforts over his last 14 games, going 7-for-40 (.175) with three steals and a 9:12 BB:K in that span. On the year, he's slashing .279/.354/.372 with no home runs, seven RBI, 10 runs scored and five steals, offering solid speed but little else while batting in the bottom third of the Cardinals' order.
-
Mickey Moniak LAA RF
Angels' Mickey Moniak: Plates three in victory
27m agoMoniak went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer during Friday's win over the Guardians.
Moniak's three-run homer in the fourth inning gave Los Angeles a 5-0 lead -- more than enough insurance as the Halos cruised to a 6-0 shutout. Despite his productive day at the plate Friday, the 25-year-old still only owns a .480 OPS through 71 plate appearances and isn't a recommended choice for fantasy managers.
-
Taylor Trammell NYY LF
Yankees' Taylor Trammell: DFA'd by Yankees
45m agoThe Yankees designated Trammell for assignment Saturday.
Trammell will be pushed off the 40-man roster in order to create room for Jon Berti (groin) to return from the injured list. The 26-year-old Trammell has now been DFA'd more times (3) than he's reached base (2) this season, though it's possible he gets claimed off waivers once again by a team in need of outfield depth.
-
Riley Greene DET LF
Tigers' Riley Greene: Tallies three hits Friday
1h agoGreene went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Yankees.
Greene was the only Detroit hitter to get anything going on Friday, as the team had just five hits overall. The outfielder could have had a bigger game if his teammates had come through, but he's still on a nice six-game hitting streak either way. During that span, Greene is batting a robust .435 with two home runs, four total runs scored and four RBI. It looks like the 23-year-old is primed for a big campaign.
-
TJ Friedl CIN CF
Reds' TJ Friedl: Begins rehab assignment
2h agoFriedl (wrist) began a rehab assignment Thursday and is 1-for-7 with a walk over two games for Triple-A Louisville.
Friedl, batting in his customary leadoff spot, played seven innings at shortstop Thursday and a full game Friday as the designated hitter. Reds manager David Bell told Mike Petraglia of MLB.com that he'll have a better idea of Friedl's return timeline by the end of the weekend.
-
Alek Thomas ARI CF
Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Begins rehab assignment
3h agoThomas (hamstring) served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with two RBI for Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Thomas began a rehab assignment Friday, signaling a pending return to the majors. Per Alex Weiner of Arizon Sports.com, Thomas will play the field Saturday for Reno and then serve as a DH again Sunday. The Diamondbacks are hopeful to bring Thomas back from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Cincinnati.
-
Andy Pages LAD RF
Dodgers' Andy Pages: Tallies four hits
9h agoPages went 4-for-5 with one RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta.
Pages set a new career best Friday night with four hits, all singles. The Dodgers rookie drove in the game-winning run, singling home Will Smith for the walk-off victory in the 11th inning. Pages has enjoyed a productive start to his big league career, slashing .333/.354/.567 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 12 runs scored over 65 plate appearances.
-
Michael Lorenzen TEX SP
-
Brady Singer KC SP
Royals' Brady Singer: Punches out eight
26m agoSinger took a no-decision Friday against the Rangers after allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out eight batters through six innings.
Although Singer turned in yet another strong outing Friday, his contributions will go unrewarded as the Royals were unable to take the lead until after the 27-year-old was relieved, giving the win to John Schreiber instead. Though Singer didn't get the win, his 2.45 ERA and 42 strikeouts through 40.1 innings on the season still give fantasy managers plenty of reason to be pleased with his performance to begin the year.
-
Tanner Bibee CLE SP
Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Saddled with first loss
28m agoBibee (2-1) took the loss Friday against the Angels after giving up six earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four batters across five innings.
Coming off an incredible seven-inning shutout performance against Atlanta in his last start, Bibee turned in one of his worst performances of the season against an injury-riddled Angels lineup. He gave up a solo homer to Nolan Schanuel in the third inning before allowing four more runs to score in the fifth, capped off by a three-run shot from Mickey Moniak. Bibee now owns a 4.46 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through his first seven starts, and he'll have another chance to get back in the win column Wednesday against Detroit.
-
Jose Soriano LAA SP
Angels' Jose Soriano: Secures first win
28m agoSoriano (1-4) earned the win Friday against the Guardians, surrendering five hits and a walk while striking out three batters across six scoreless innings.
Friday was a much-needed bounce-back outing for Soriano, who gave up four runs in 1.2 innings during his previous start against Minnesota. He rarely found himself in trouble versus Cleveland aside from the fifth inning, when the Guardians had runners on second and third base with one out, but a well-timed groundout followed by a walk and a strikeout allowed Soriano to maintain his shutout. He'll carry a 3.77 ERA and 1.29 WHIP heading into his next projected start Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
-
Marcus Stroman NYY SP
Yankees' Marcus Stroman: Hit with no-decision
29m agoStroman came away with a no-decision Friday against the Tigers after giving up one earned run on three hits and five walks while striking out three batters across 5.1 innings.
Despite the Tigers' ability to reach base regularly against Stroman, a bases-loaded walk from Colt Keith in the sixth inning was the only way Detroit was able to break through on the scoreboard against him. A quiet night from New York's offense also put Stroman at risk of taking his second loss of the season, but a two-run ninth inning allowed the Yankees to steal the victory from Detroit while handing the right-hander a no-decision. He is tentatively scheduled to start again Thursday against Houston.
-
Reese Olson DET SP
Tigers' Reese Olson: Pitches well in no-decision
1h agoOlson tossed five scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Friday's game against the Yankees. He allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out five.
Olson was sharp against a strong New York lineup, but the Tigers couldn't provide enough run support in the eventual 2-1 loss. Olson has been dialed in over his last four starts, compiling a 1.54 ERA and striking out 25 batters across 23.1 innings, but he has an 0-3 record to show for it. The strong run has at least lowered his season ERA to a tidy 2.70. The righty will look to keep pitching well and hopefully get a bit more run support in his next appearance, which is tentatively set for Wednesday against the Guardians.
-
Jason Foley DET RP
Tigers' Jason Foley: Blows save, takes first loss Friday
41m agoFoley (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits without recording an out to blow the save and take the loss Friday against the Yankees.
Foley came on in the ninth inning to protect a 1-0 Detroit lead, but the righty struggled and blew his first save of the season in 10 chances. He's still sitting with a solid 2.63 ERA overall and should remain the team's closer for now, though it's a fluid situation with Alex Lange, Shelby Miller and Andrew Chafin all potentially waiting in the wings if Foley stumbles again. Lange led the Tigers with 26 saves last year and has been sharp with a 0.75 ERA in 2024, so he's probably the next man up in this bullpen.
-
Adbert Alzolay CHC RP
Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Implodes in Friday's loss
1h agoAlzolay (1-4) allowed three runs on four hits while retiring just a single batter to take the loss Friday against the Brewers.
Alzolay came on with one out in the eighth inning and promptly got into trouble, allowing a couple of quick singles before recording an out. The Brewers also ran freely on Alzolay, stealing three bases while he was on the mound. It's been a rough start to the season for the righty, as he's saddled with a 5.54 ERA and has been removed from the closer's role in favor of Hector Neris. Alzolay doesn't have a ton of fantasy appeal in his current form.
-
Cole Winn TEX RP
Rangers' Cole Winn: Hits first snag in majors
1h agoWinn (0-1) was charged with Friday's loss after giving up four runs on four hits over a third of an inning against the Royals.
Winn entered a 1-1 game to start the seventh inning and allowed four singles before his removal. The 24-year-old breezed through his introduction to MLB, throwing seven scoreless innings over five outings (zero hits, one walk, seven strikeouts) before facing his first adversity Friday. Texans general manager Chris Young raved about the right-hander to Kenndi Landry of MLB.com earlier this week, noting Winn was attacking the strike zone. Walks have been issue in the past for Winn, whose strikes may have caught too much of the zone Friday.
-
Raisel Iglesias ATL RP
Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Blows save in extras
9h agoIglesias blew the save Friday against the Dodgers. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and no walks with no strikeouts over one inning.
Iglesias entered the bottom of the tenth inning tasked with retiring the top of the Dodgers order to earn a save. He promptly retired Mookie Betts on two pitches before yielding a game-tying RBI single to Shohei Ohtani. However, since the automatic runner scored, the Atlanta closer escaped Friday night without a hit to his ERA, which now stands at 2.03 over 13.1 innings.
-
Ryan Helsley STL RP
Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Collects easy save
10h agoHelsley tossed a perfect inning to earn a save over the White Sox on Friday.
Helsely retired the 2-3-4 hitters in the White Sox lineup with just eight pitches to secure the 3-0 win. Since blowing a save chance in his season debut, Helsley has converted 11 consecutive opportunities while allowing one earned run over 16 innings. He owns a 1.59 ERA with a terrific 19:2 K:BB this season.
-
Brad Keller CHW RP
White Sox's Brad Keller: Handed loss Friday
10h agoKeller (0-1) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against St. Louis.
Keller coughed up a pair of runs in the first inning but kept the Cardinals in check until he was charged with another run in the fifth. He forced 12 swinging strikes but needed 102 pitches to get through 4.2 frames. Keller registered a 4.50 ERA across three starts with Triple-A Charlotte before his promotion to the MLB level and it's unclear what role the White Sox plan on using him in moving forward.
-
Joc Pederson ARI DH
Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Doubles, scores in loss
2h agoPederson started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 7-1 loss to the Padres.
Pederson had one of Arizona's three hits, a leadoff double in the fifth inning, and came in to score the team's lone run on a Eugenio Suarez single. Pederson leads the Diamondbacks in average (.318), on-base percentage (.447) and slugging (.515), but he's not an everyday starter. He serves as the primary DH against right-handers and has just four plate appearances against southpaws.
-
Ryan O'Hearn BAL DH
Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Smacks homer in win
9h agoO'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds.
O'Hearn has hit safely in his last six games, going 8-for-19 (.421) in that span. The homer was his first since April 16, but the 30-year-old continues to demolish right-handed pitching. He's up to a .307/.381/.573 slash line with five homers, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, three doubles and a triple over 84 plate appearances this season. He should continue to see a strong-side platoon role, mainly as the designated hitter but also with occasional looks in the corner outfield or at first base.

Masataka Yoshida BOS DH
Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Getting second opinion
17h agoManager Alex Cora said Friday that Yoshida will get a second opinion on his strained left thumb, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Cora previously said Thursday that Yoshida may need to undergo surgery on his thumb after straining it during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but the 30-year-old will wait to hear from another doctor before determining the best course of action. Yoshida has slashed .275/.348/.388 with 11 RBI across 89 plate appearances this season, and an update on his status should be available within the next several days.

Nelson Velazquez KC DH
Royals' Nelson Velazquez: Sitting again
19h agoVelazquez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.
Velazquez has been less and less of an everyday option for the Royals as the team continues to trot out lineups with Salvador Perez as first, Vinnie Pasquantino at DH and Freddy Fermin behind the dish. Velazquez hasn't done much to warrant an everyday role after starting the season red-hot, with just one hit in his last 27 at-bats.

Estevan Florial CLE DH
Guardians' Estevan Florial: Not starting Friday
20h agoFlorial is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Florial will get a rare off day against a right-handed pitcher, with Jose Ramirez filling in at DH and Gabriel Arias playing third against the Angels' Jose Soriano. Time on the bench against RHP could become more common though, as Florial has stumbled to a .196 batting average and a 40.6 percent strikeout rate through 20 games and 64 plate appearances.
