SAN ANTONIO (AP) Ishmael Lane scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Northwestern State picked up its first conference win, beating Incarnate Word 66-54 on Wednesday night, snapping a 17-game losing streak.

Lane was 9 of 14 from the field. Czar Perry added 16 points for the Demons (4-22, 1-14 Southland Conference) who shot 47 percent from the field compared to 30 percent for Incarnate Word and had a 42-33 rebounding edge.

The Demons trailed midway through the first period but Perry scored 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers as part of a 15-6 surge and Lane capped it with another 3 to give them a 38-32 lead at halftime.

Incarnate Word cut it to 47-46 with 7:58 to play but the Demons led all the way and Lane scored nine points in the final five minutes to seal the win.

Sam Burmeister scored 19 points to lead the Cardinals (5-20, 0-15). Augustine Ene added 13.
