  • Angels' Willie Calhoun: Collects four hits

Calhoun went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Rangers.

Calhoun opened his night with a groundout in the second inning before singling in four straight at-bats. He's knocked at least three hits in four of his first 13 games with the Angels, including two straight. However, in his other nine games, he's gone 6-for-34 (.176). Calhoun is now slashing .365/.382/.577 with 11 runs scored through 55 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Tyler Anderson: Back to .500

Anderson (4-4) yielded a run on two hits and two walks over seven innings Friday, striking out four and earning a win over the Rangers.

Anderson was sharp Friday and the only blemish on his final line was a solo shot by Jonah Heim in the second inning. Anderson has won back-to-back starts after going 0-4 over his previous five outings. Despite what that losing streak may suggest, he registered a 4.08 ERA during that span and Friday's start lowered his season ERA to 2.72 through 56.1 frames. Anderson's next start is currently projected to be in Houston next week.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Doubles, swipes a bag in return

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with a double, a steal, a run scored and a walk in Friday's win over Texas.

Rengifo hit second in his first game since May 6 after a brief stint on the injured list. He ripped a double in the first inning before drawing a walk, stealing second base and scoring a run in the third. The utility bat was on a 19-for-46 (.413) tear over his last 15 games before landing on the IL. Rengifo is slashing .326/.379/.463 with nine extra-base hits and 10 steals through 29 games.

  • Angels' Sam Bachman: Faces hitters

Bachman (shoulder) threw live batting practice Friday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Bachman began throwing off a mound May 7, and Friday marks another major step in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. The 24-year-old righty will almost certainly require a lengthy rehab assignment before the Angels think about adding him to their rotation, though the team has not yet specified when his assignment will start.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Receives injection in back

Adrianza received an injection in his back Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The injection was issued to relieve back spasms that caused Adrianza to land on the 10-day injured list May 9. Before being placed on the IL, Adrianza was 5-for-26 with one home run and two RBI in eight games.

  • Angels' Mickey Moniak: Idle versus lefty

Moniak is not in the lineup for Friday's matchup against the Rangers.

The lefty hitting Moniak will start from the dugout as the Angels take on southpaw Andrew Heaney. Kevin Pillar will start at center field and bat fourth in place of Moniak with Taylor Ward and Jo Adell rounding out the Los Angeles outfield.

  • Angels' Roansy Contreras: Dealt to Anaheim

The Pirates traded Contreras to the Angels on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Contreras was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Saturday after posting a 4.41 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across 16.1 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will replace Davis Daniel in the Angels' bullpen, though Contreras could also be moved into the starting rotation at some point.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Optioned to Salt Lake

The Angels optioned Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

For the second time this season, Daniel will return to the minors after a one-day stint with the Angels without seeing the field. The 26-year-old right-hander owns a 5.89 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 36.2 innings in Triple-A.

  • Angels' Niko Goodrum: Sent to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Goodrum to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Goodrum was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay last Thursday, and he went 0-for-13 in four games with the Angels. He will now return to the minors, making room for Luis Rengifo's (illness) return from the injured list. It's possible Goodrum returns later this year if the Angels continue to struggle with infield depth, but he has proven to be an offensive liability throughout his seven-year career in MLB.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Activated from injured list

The Angels activated Rengifo (illness) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Rengifo missed the last week and a half with a viral illness which resulted in painful blisters on his feet. He's recovered now, though, and should be back in the lineup when the Angels return to action Friday in Texas against the Rangers. The super utility player is slashing .330/.378/.462 with two home runs and nine stolen bases over 28 contests this season.

  • Angels' Taylor Ward: Homer, two hits in win

Ward went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's win over St. Louis.

Ward jumped on a four-seamer from Nick Robertson in the bottom of the seventh and sent it into the stands in left field for a leadoff home run, giving the outfielder his first long ball this month and his eighth overall on the season. Ward also recorded a single in the contest, marking his fourth multi-hit game in May, during which he's now batting .261 with three RBI and six runs scored.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Belts fourth homer

Neto went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Cardinals.

Neto singled in his first at-bat before being thrown out trying to steal second. He would then add a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Angels' lead to four runs, giving the shortstop his fourth long ball of the season and his second in May. Neto has now hit safely in three straight games and hasn't struck out over that stretch after striking out five times in the previous three contests.

  • Angels' Griffin Canning: Strong outing in win

Canning (2-4) earned the win over the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over six innings while striking out five.

Canning allowed multiple baserunners in two of his first four innings but managed to work his way through it unscathed. He would later surrender a home run to Paul Goldschmidt to open the sixth, but that would be the only run allowed by the right-hander on the night as he cruised to his second win of the season. Canning produced 12 swinging strikes in the contest and now carries a 13:6 K:BB in May to go along with a 1.53 ERA. It also marked his second quality start of the campaign and the third straight outing in which he's allowed two or fewer runs.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Back in majors

The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The 26-year-old had a one-day stint in the majors in late April but didn't see game action. Daniel made three appearances for the Angels last season and posted a 2.19 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 9:9 K:BB over 12.1 innings.

  • Angels' Amir Garrett: Loses 40-man spot

The Angels designated Garrett for assignment Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Garrett will be pushed off the 40-man roster as Davis Daniel comes up from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Garrett's place in the Los Angeles bullpen. Since joining the active roster in late April, the 32-year-old southpaw has given up three earned runs while striking out 11 batters through 5.1 innings across six appearances. He's performed well in the minors this season and posted a 3.33 ERA in 24.1 innings with the Royals in 2023, so it's possible he draws interest from other teams on the waiver wire.

  • Angels' Jo Adell: Sitting Wednesday

Adell isn't in the Angels' lineup for Wednesday's game versus St. Louis, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Adell will sit out the series finale after going 1-for-7 with a run scored and two strikeouts through the first two games. While he rests, Kevin Pillar will fill the open spot in right field while batting fifth.
