The Marlins activated Edwards (foot) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday. Edwards is over the bacterial infection in his left foot which had plagued him since mid-March, but he'll remain in Jacksonville for now where he had been on a rehab assignment. The speedster has gone 8-for-26 at the plate in seven games with Jacksonville.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Poised for rehab assignment
Edwards (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Edwards' recovery from a bacterial infection in his left foot has gone very slowly, but he's finally ready to play in some games. It will be his first game action since early March, so he will need time in the minors to knock the rust off before the Marlins consider adding him to the big-league roster.... See More ... Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Moves to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Edwards (foot) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Edwards' move to the 60-day IL will make him ineligible to return until May 27, though it remains unclear whether or not he'll be able to play by then. The 24-year-old has been slowly working his way back from a bacterial infection in his left foot that has kept him on the shelf since the beginning of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Upping baseball activities
Edwards (foot) has increased his baseball activities this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. It's been a slow recovery for Edwards as he comes back from a bacterial infection in his left foot. While there remains no timetable for his return, it does appear he's finally making some progress.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Still on mend from foot infection
Edwards (foot) is healing up after a recent follow-up appointment with a podiatrist, but he remains without a clear timeline to resume baseball activities, MLB.com reports. Edwards didn't appear in any Grapefruit League games after March 5, but he resumed hitting and throwing at the Marlins' spring training complex in late March before he was later revealed to be dealing with a foot infection. He's been shut down from activities ever since, but after his recent appointment was apparently positive, he could be cleared to start working out again soon. Edwards likely won't be ready to return from the 10-day injured list for at least another couple of weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: No baseball activities
Edwards is being held out of baseball activities while being treated for a bacterial infection in his left foot, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. It's not clear at this point when he might be cleared for baseball activities again. Edwards is eligible for activation from the injured list next week, but it seems unlikely that he will be ready at that time.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Hitting and throwing
Edwards (foot) is able to hit and throw at the Marlins' spring training complex in Florida, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Edwards in on the injured list with an infection in his left foot. While it is understandably keeping him from running, he is able to perform other baseball activities. It's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Moves to injured list
The Marlins placed Edwards on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left foot infection. The 24-year-old dealt with some foot inflammation in mid-March and was initially expected back in the lineup within a few days, but he's since been diagnosed with an infection. According to MLB.com, Edwards was able to hit on the back fields of camp at the tail end of spring training, so he could be ready to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment soon.... See More ... Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Managing foot issue
Edwards isn't in either lineup for Miami's split-squad games Sunday and was seen wearing a boot on his left foot, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Manager Skip Schumaker said Edwards is dealing with some inflammation but could be back in the lineup "in the next couple of days." The 24-year-old hasn't seen game action since March 5, and every day he's unavailable hurts his chances of cracking the Marlins' Opening Day roster.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Tough battle for roster spot
Edwards might get squeezed off the Marlins' big-league roster to begin the season, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old showed off his speed in his major-league debut last season, slashing .295/.329/.333 over 84 plate appearances and going 5-for-5 on steal attempts. Unfortunately for Edwards, the Marlins have Nick Gordon and Vidal Brujan in camp competing for a utility role as well, and while all three players have similar skill sets, the latter two are out of minor-league options. Unless Edwards significantly outplays one of them this spring, he may have to begin 2024 back at Triple-A Jacksonville.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Swipes two bags
Edwards went 3-for-4 with two steals in Sunday's victory over Milwaukee. In an increasingly rare start, Edwards was able to display his main calling card, speed, as he stole second base twice in the game. The rookie has struggled to see playing time of late, as he's started only twice over the last eight games. Edwards is slashing .303/.333/.348 with three steals, 11 runs and three RBI over 71 big-league appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Optioned to Triple-A
Edwards was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Jacksonville, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Jesus Sanchez (hamstring) has been activated from the injured list in a corresponding roster move ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Padres. Edwards, 23, is 8-for-21 (.381) this year in the majors and should eventually get another opportunity with the Marlins.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Recalled from Triple-A
Miami recalled Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. Edwards will add some versatility to the Marlins' position-player mix with Jazz Chisholm (toe) facing at least a month-long absence. Edwards, 23, has batted .316/.431/.390 with zero homers and eight steals in 26 games this season at the Triple-A level. He stands 1-for-6 through three major-league games.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Receives call-up
The Marlins recalled Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Edwards will get his first taste of major-league action with the Marlins at age 23, likely operating in a utility role in Miami's infield. He had slashed .306/.427/.361 with zero home runs and seven stolen bases through 20 games (90 plate appearances) this season at the Triple-A level.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Sent to Marlins
Edwards and JT Chargois were acquired by the Marlins from the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Marcus Johnson and Santiago Suarez. Edwards was one of Tampa Bay's top prospects but will be flipped in order to acquire a couple minor-league pitchers. He spent 2022 at the Triple-A level and had a .246/.328/.350 slash line with five home runs, 33 RBI and seven stolen bases in 93 games, so a change of scenery certainly won't hurt.... See More ... Rays' Xavier Edwards: Nearing return
Edwards (shoulder) has been working out at the team's spring training facility and is nearing a return to game action, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Edwards was diagnosed with a shoulder impingement in early April, though the issue was not deemed to be major. It's not clear exactly what activity Edwards has been engaged in while missing game action, but it appears that a return in late April remains realistic.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Xavier Edwards: Dealing with shoulder issue
Edwards has been diagnosed with a shoulder impingement, but the Rays hope he can return to the field by late April, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports. Edwards suffered the injury in early March, which kept him out of game action for all of spring training. His absence will now extend into the minor-league regular season, though the team plans for him to return to the lineup with Triple-A Durham in the next few weeks. Edwards is a strong prospect based on an above-average hit tool and excellent speed, but he is blocked by the likes of Wander Franco and Brandon Lowe at the big-league level.... See More ... Rays' Xavier Edwards: Out with oblique injury
Edwards is opening the year on the 7-day injured list with Double-A Montgomery due to an oblique injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports. He suffered the injury in minor-league camp, but the Rays don't think the injury is serious. Edwards is expected back sometime this month.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xavier Edwards: Moves up to High-A
Edwards advanced to High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Edwards earns a deserved promotion after hitting .336/.392/.414 in 77 games for Low-A Fort Wayne. He makes a lot of contact (10.2 percent strikeout rate) and has excellent speed (20 steals), though he has almost no power (just one career professional home run).... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xavier Edwards: Drills first career homer
Edwards went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored for Low-A Fort Wayne on Thursday. Edwards has been raking for the TinCaps all season, but this performance was notable in that he homered in the fourth inning, marking his first long ball at any professional level. Despite the lack of power, he's hit very well throughout his minor-league career, as he's slashing .336/.414/.400 since he was drafted in 2018. If Thursday's long ball is a sign he's set to add more power to his game, it would be a big addition to his profile, as he's already clearly a skilled offensive prospect.... See More ... See Less
