Ramirez cleared outright waivers and accepted his assignment to Triple-A Durham on Friday. Ramirez was designated for assignment Wednesday by the Rays, but he'll stay in the organization. The right-hander delivered a 4.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB across 16 innings with Tampa Bay this season.... See More ... See Less

Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Picks up unconventional save
Ramirez recorded the final out in Thursday's win over Boston to earn the save. Jason Adam began the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to leave the game after the Rays exceeded the limit for mound visits. Ramirez then entered the contest to record the final out with runners on first and third. He hasn't worked many high-leverage situations this season and isn't likely to see many moving forward given the depth of Tampa Bay's bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Earns win in long relief
Ramirez (2-0) walked one and struck out one across three scoreless innings to earn the win Monday against the White Sox. Ramirez followed starter Tyler Alexander into the game in the fifth inning and turned in his second consecutive scoreless appearance. Ramirez has worked primarily in long relief since being recalled to the Rays on April 21, as he's completed at least two frames in four of his six outings. Despite limited strikeout upside -- he has eight punchouts across 11.1 innings of work -- he could be in position to earn more wins than a traditional reliever.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Selected to majors
The Rays selected Ramirez's contract from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Ramirez has allowed two earned runs and struck out 13 batters across 8.1 innings at Triple-A, and his hot start has now earned him a spot in the Rays' bullpen. The 33-year-old righty will likely pitch primarily in low-leverage situations after turning in a 6.41 ERA in the majors last season, and he'll take the place of Jacob Lopez, who was optioned to Durham in a corresponding move. Taylor Walls (hip) was moved to the 60-day IL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Returns to Rays on MiLB contract
Tampa Bay re-signed Ramirez to a minor-league contract Monday. Ramirez was outrighted off the Rays' 40-man roster at the end of the 2023 regular season, but he's now back with the club on an MiLB deal for 2024. The 33-year-old right-hander owns a career 4.37 ERA in 828.1 big-league innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Outrighted by Rays
Ramirez cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Florida Complex League on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Ramirez is no longer on the Rays' 40-man roster and will not be part of their Wild Card Series roster against the Rangers, but he will work out with other at the team's spring training complex in Florida in case he's needed. The veteran reliever posted a 6.41 ERA over 38 appearances for the Nationals and Rays in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Sent to minors
Ramirez was designated for assignment Saturday. Ramirez pitched three innings Friday, allowing four earned on eight hits. He has not had a good September, posting a 6.92 ERA in 12.0 innings. In a corresponding move, Cooper Criswell was recalled from Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Tosses three innings
Ramirez allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three over three innings in Sunday's start against the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision. Ramirez threw a season-high 58 pitches to get the game started off for the Rays. The 33-year-old was given an early 5-0 cushion and encountered trouble only in the second by allowing three base hits in the inning. Ramirez has now yielded just one run in eight innings pitched since being called up July 30 and should remain a long-relief option with the team's starting depth being tested by injuries.... Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Needed for spot start Sunday
Ramirez will make a spot start Sunday against the Tigers in Detroit, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Since getting called up from Triple-A Durham a week ago, Ramirez made three-inning and two-inning appearances out of the bullpen, but he'll be called upon to make a spot start on short notice after Tyler Glasnow experienced back spasms late Saturday that will prevent him from taking the hill Sunday. Since he'll be pitching on three days' rest and hasn't covered more than four innings in any of his appearances in the majors or minors this season, Ramirez is unlikely to work deep enough into the start to qualify for a win. The Rays don't have an obvious candidate to work in bulk relief behind Ramirez and may be treating Sunday's contest as more of a bullpen day.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Joining big club
Ramirez had his contract selected by the Rays on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The right-hander signed a minor-league deal with Tampa Bay in mid-June and will join the major-league club after making two appearances with Triple-A Durham. Ramirez had a 6.33 ERA over 27 innings for the Nationals earlier this season before being released, and he could provide some length out of the bullpen Sunday behind opener Zack Littell.... Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Signs MiLB deal with Rays
Ramirez signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Ramirez was released by Washington on Thursday and will now head to Triple-A Durham in an effort to make it back to the big leagues. He logged a 6.33 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 27 innings with the Nationals this season.... See More ... See Less -
Erasmo Ramirez: Released by Washington
Ramirez was released by the Nationals on Thursday. After Ramirez was designated for assignment by Washington on Wednesday, the team officially released him one day later. The 33-year-old has posted a 6.33 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 27 innings in 23 appearances with the Nationals this season.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Dropped from 40-man roster
Washington designated Ramirez for assignment Wednesday. Ramirez put up a 6.33 ERA over 23 relief appearances for the Nationals this season. He's a good bet to clear waivers, and if that happens, he'll have the ability to declare free agency.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Part of Opening Day bullpen
Ramirez will begin the season in the Nationals' bullpen. The 32-year-old delivered solid numbers last season in a long relief role for the Nats, posting a 2.92 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 61:14 K:BB through 86.1 innings over 60 appearances with four wins and five holds. Ramirez's lack of high-leverage work, as well as the state of the rebuilding roster around him, gives him little fantasy appeal even if his ratios don't regress, however.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Re-signs with Washington
Ramirez re-signed with the Nationals on a one-year, $2 million contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Ramirez pitched well for the Nats in long relief in 2022, collecting a 2.92 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 61:14 K:BB ratio over 86.1 innings. He'll likely be used in a similar role in 2023, though he could also pitch in some higher-leverage spots.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Scoreless in short start
Ramirez allowed one hit over three shutout frames in Sunday's win over Atlanta. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision. After Dansby Swanson singled in the first inning, Ramirez retired the next eight batters he faced as the Nationals jumped out to an early lead. The 32-year-old righty lowered his season ERA to 4.26 through 44.1 frames. It was his third outing of the year that lasted at least three innings and his first since June 17.... See More ... Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Hit hard in spot start
Ramirez (1-1) allowed six runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in three innings, taking the loss Monday versus Atlanta. Half of the hits Ramirez allowed landed over the fence, with Travis d'Arnaud, Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall all taking him deep. This was Ramirez's first start in 21 appearances this season, as he's mainly served as a low-leverage reliever. He has a 4.88 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB across 27.2 innings, and there's little from Monday's outing to suggest he should receive another look in the rotation barring an emergency.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Starting Monday
Ramirez will start Monday's game against the Braves, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Josiah Gray was labeled as the starting pitcher for Monday's contest, but a rain delay will force the Nationals to roll Ramirez out there after Gray got hot in the bullpen and had to sit down prior to first pitch. This marks Ramirez's first start of the season, though he figures to toss only an inning or two in what will be a bullpen game for Washington.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Contract selected by Washington
Ramirez's contract was selected by the Nationals on Thursday. Ramirez failed to secure a spot on the Nationals' Opening Day roster, but he'll be rewarded with a spot in the major-league bullpen after he struck out 12 in seven scoreless innings in five relief appearances at Triple-A Rochester to begin the year. Right-hander Hunter Harvey was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right pronator strain, while Ehire Adrianza was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room on the roster. In spite of his strong start to the year in the minors, Ramirez should pitch mainly in low-leverage situations.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Part of Monday's cuts
The Nationals reassigned Ramirez to minor-league camp Monday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. Ramirez is expected to begin the season as a member of the rotation at Triple-A Rochester. He made 17 relief appearances at the big-league level for the Tigers in 2021, logging a 5.74 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB across 26.2 innings.... See More ... See Less
