The Rangers have yet to decide whether Eovaldi (groin) will require a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports. Eovaldi has been on the shelf since May 3 with a strained right groin. Though Eovaldi didn't return from the IL in the minimum 15 days like manager Bruce Bochy had initially suggested could be the case, the veteran right-hander might be able to avoid a rehab assignment prior to being activated. He traveled with the Rangers this weekend and threw a bullpen session Friday at Target Field, and he'll presumably be reassessed when the team returns to Arlington ahead of its two-game home series versus the Diamondbacks that begins Tuesday.... Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Throwing off mound
Eovaldi (groin) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Friday will mark the first time Eovaldi has thrown off a mound since being diagnosed with a right groin strain May 3. He's eligible to return from the IL on Saturday, but considering the right-hander is just now resuming mound work, he may still be a week or two from returning to Texas' rotation. A clearer timeline for his return should emerge once he progresses to facing live hitters.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Might throw off mound this weekend
Eovaldi (groin) could be ready to throw off a mound this weekend, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Eovaldi did some more flat-ground throwing Monday and might be ready to take the next step forward by getting back on a mound to toss a bullpen session. While he looks to be trending in the right direction, Eovaldi doesn't look as though he'll be ready to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Saturday. He's coming back from a strained right groin.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Playing catch
Eovaldi (groin) was seen playing catch ahead of Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Manager Bruce Bochy provided a positive update Monday with news that the right-hander isn't dealing with a sports hernia, and Eovaldi is back to playing catch a day later. Barring any sort of setback, the 34-year-old could be good to go without needing a rehab assignment once he clears the 15-day IL on May 18. In the meantime, Jose Urena and Jack Leiter will be deployed as starters when necessary.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Gets positive news from specialist
Manager Bruce Bochy stated Monday that Eovaldi (groin) isn't dealing with a sports hernia and should be cleared to return after serving the 15-day minimum on the injured list, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. The Rangers initially believed that Eovaldi wouldn't be forced to miss more than the required 15 days, and this report was confirmed after the right-hander visited a specialist Monday. The 34-year-old will tentatively be cleared to return sometime during his club's upcoming series against the Angels, which runs from May 17 through May 19.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: No rehab assignment needed
Eovaldi (groin) isn't expected to require a rehab assignment prior to being activated from the 15-day injured list, MLB.com reports. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy expressed optimism that Eovaldi, who was placed on the injured list Friday, will return when first eligible May 18. Jack Leiter is expected to be called up from Triple-A Round Rock to fill the gap in the rotation until Eovaldi and/or Max Scherzer (back/thumb) are ready to return from the IL.... See More ... Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Put on injured list
Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a strained right groin. Eovaldi underwent an MRI on Friday which confirmed a right groin strain. He'll join Max Scherzer (back) on the shelf, while Yerry Rodriguez will join the big-league roster. Eovaldi's next start was scheduled for Tuesday, an opening that could be filled by Jack Leiter, who's currently in Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: MRI scheduled Friday
Eovaldi (groin) will undergo an MRI on Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Eovaldi, who was removed from Thursday's win over the Nationals, will travel with the club to Kansas City for the procedure. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said the team is "being cautious" with the 34-year-old right-hander, whose next turn is due Tuesday. Nothing will be determined until after the MRI, but Bochy indicated Eovaldi might just need some rest.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Exits with groin injury
Eovaldi was removed from his start Thursday against the Nationals with right groin tightness, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Eovaldi didn't look comfortable on the mound after making a pitch in the sixth inning, prompting a visit from the Rangers' training staff and his eventual removal. The severity of the veteran righty's injury remains unknown, but the team may provide more information after Thursday's game. Eovaldi threw 5.1 shutout innings while striking out eight batters before his early exit.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Issues six walks in loss
Eovaldi (1-2) allowed three runs on five hits and six walks over 5.1 innings in a loss to Atlanta on Saturday. He struck out six. Eovaldi had a brutal second inning in which he failed to retire any of the first six batters he faced, giving way to three runs coming home for Atlanta in the frame. The right-hander didn't allow another hit from the third inning on, though he did issue three free passes over that stretch while also hitting Travis d'Arnaud with a pitch. The six walks marked a season high for Eovaldi, as he hadn't walked more than two batters in any other start coming in. He's now lost two of his first three decisions to open the season, allowing eight runs and eight walks over his last two outings.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Strikes out eight in no-decision
Eovaldi did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 5.2 innings versus the Athletics. He struck out eight. Eovaldi had another strong performance, as a second-inning home run by Shea Langeliers was the lone blemish against him. He generated 21 whiffs while striking out eight hitters for the second straight outing. Eovaldi's been cruising with a 1.45 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB in 18.2 innings so far but lines up for a tough road matchup against the Astros next.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Goes six innings in opener
Eovaldi didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings versus the Cubs. He struck out three. Eovaldi was efficient Thursday, needing just 88 pitches to get through six innings, recording a quality start in the season opener. The 34-year-old right-hander went 12-5 last season with a 3.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 132:47 K:BB across 25 starts. The Rangers will rely on Eovaldi to anchor their rotation with Max Scherzer (back) and Jacob deGrom (elbow) both out until at least midseason. Eovaldi's tentatively lined up for a road start next week in Tampa Bay.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Works four innings Saturday

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Picked as Opening Day starter
Manager Bruce Bochy announced Tuesday that Eovaldi will start the Rangers' March 28 season opener versus the Cubs in Arlington. Eovaldi will be opposed by left-hander Justin Steele. Even before Bochy confirmed Eovaldi as the Opening Day starter, the 33-year-old right-hander looked like the clear choice for the defending World Series champs after going 5-0 in six postseason outings, collecting a 2.95 ERA and 41:10 K:BB over 36.2 innings along the way.... Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Lining up as Opening Day starter
Eovaldi allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings in Monday's spring start against the Angels. He'll get two more starts in camp and is lined up to take the ball Opening Day against the Cubs.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Pleased with second spring outing
Eovaldi allowed one run on two hits and struck out five over three innings in Thursday's spring start against the Brewers. Despite the blemish of giving up a run, Eovaldi was pleased with his second Cactus League start, per Stefan Stevenson of SI.com. "My fastball command was a lot better this time around," Eovaldi said. "I'm making the mechanical adjustments that I needed to after the [first] outing where I can just repeat my delivery a little bit better." The right-hander, projected as the team's Opening Day starter, threw all four pitches in his repertoire. Eovaldi felt so good that he threw another 12 pitches in the bullpen, upping his total pitch count for the day to 50.... See More ... See Less -

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Penciled in for Game 2
Eovaldi will start Monday against Houston in Game 2 of the ALCS, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Eovaldi has been brilliant to start the postseason, allowing just two runs while striking out 15 batters and walking none across 13.2 innings. However, Eovaldi was lit up for four runs in just 1.1 frames during his most recent matchup with Houston in early September.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Struggles in Seattle
Eovaldi (12-5) allowed seven runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Mariners. The Mariners did all their damage in the third and fourth innings, sending Eovaldi to the showers early after the back-to-back shaky frames. Over six appearances in September after returning from a forearm strain, Eovaldi allowed 21 runs across 20.1 innings with a 21:13 K:BB. He ends the regular season with a 3.63 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 132:47 K:BB over 144 innings through 25 starts. Given his recent struggles, it's unclear if he'd be part of the postseason rotation for the Rangers should they secure a playoff spot.... See More ... See Less
