1h agoFaksa (undisclosed) will not suit up Monday against Vegas, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
Faksa will now miss a second consecutive game despite being considered a game-time call Monday. He should be questionable to return for Game 5 on Wednesday until another update is available. Faksa tallied nine hits with no points in the first two games this series.
-
Noah Gregor TOR C
Maple Leafs' Noah Gregor: Healthy scratch this postseason
1h agoGregor, who put up six goals and six assists in 63 games this season, has been a healthy scratch in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Gregor is an energy player with 241 NHL games under belt, but he hasn't dressed in a playoff game. And with the Leafs on the brink down 3-1 to the Bruins, Gregor's postseason debut may need to wait for another year. He's a free agent this summer, coming off a one-year, $775,000 AAV deal, and time will tell if he will be re-signed in Toronto.
-
Hendrix Lapierre WAS C
Capitals' Hendrix Lapierre: Returned to minors
5h agoLapierre was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Monday.
Lapierre scored just once in his last 19 outings while chipping in eight helpers and 20 shots on goal. The 22-year-old center played in 51 regular-season contests for the Capitals this year and should be a full-time NHL option heading into the 2024-25 campaign. With a full 82-game season, Lapierre is certainly capable of pushing for both the 20-goal and 40-point thresholds.

Vladislav Namestnikov WPG C
Jets' Vladislav Namestnikov: Dealing with fractured cheekbone
9h agoNamestnikov (face) has a fractured cheekbone, but he hasn't been ruled out of Tuesday's must-win Game 5 versus the Avalanche, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports.
It sounds like Namestnikov may put on a full cage and try to gut it out Tuesday, but his status for Game 5 may not be confirmed until the Jets take the ice for pregame warmups. He's picked up one goal, eight hits and a minus-3 rating through the first four games of the Jets' first-round series versus Colorado.
-

22m agoWatson will be a free agent this offseason.
Watson played in just 33 games this season, scoring two goals and adding two assists. He did put up 93 PIM and 85 hits, but mustered only 17 shots while averaging 7:16. Watson didn't ink his one-year deal with the Bolts until October, and that doesn't bode well for 2024-25 given his performance. Over his career, he has played in 515 regular-season games and recorded 60 goals, 58 assists, 705 PIM and 1,209 hits.
-

Ahcan will serve as extra depth for the Avalanche. He hasn't dressed in an NHL game since the 2021-22 campaign.
-
Calvin de Haan TB D
Lightning's Calvin de Haan: Needs contract for next season
29m agoDe Haan becomes a free agent this offseason.
The veteran defender, who inked a one-year deal for $775,000 last summer, put up three goals and seven assists in 59 games this season. De Haan was scratched for nine of the team's last 11 games, despite putting up an assist in each of the two games played. He played in one postseason game in 2023-24, delivering two blocked shots and one hit in 10:50. At his best, de Haan could give you triple-digit hits and blocked shots, but he needs to ink a contract this summer. He'll soon be 33, and the journeyman may struggle to find a suitor. He hasn't played a full season since 2016-17 for the Islanders.
-
Mark Giordano TOR D
Maple Leafs' Mark Giordano: Can't crack postseason lineup
1h agoGiordano has not been able to crack the postseason lineup against the Bruins in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Giordano, who missed significant time this season to injury and following his father's death, has 1,148 regular-season NHL games, but only 37 postseason games to his name. He started in 2005-06, and he headed off to the KHL in 2007-08 where he played 50 games for Moscow Dynamo. Giordano is nearing the end of his career, but with newcomers Ilya Lyubushkin and Joel Edmundson on the blue line, he has found it hard to crack the top-six. The Leafs are on the verge of elimination, down 3-1 to the Bruins this postseason, so Father Time is catching up with Giordano.
-

After falling down 2-0 at home, Oettinger was terrific in Saturday's Game 3 victory, stopping 32 of 34 shots in the process. He's allowed eight goals on 74 shots through three games this series. Oettinger was on a ridiculous run heading into the playoffs, going 10-1-0 with a 1.54 GAA and a .941 save percentage over his last 11 games during the regular season.
-

-
Semyon Varlamov NYI G
Islanders' Semyon Varlamov: Gets starting nod for Tuesday
11h agoVarlamov will be between the road pipes for Game 5 against the Hurricanes on Tuesday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
As expected, Varlamov gets the nod after having put together a strong showing in Game 4. He stopped 42 of 44 shots on net in that must-win contest. At this point, the 36-year-old Varlamov figures to continue trying to stave off elimination for the Islanders for as long as he can.
