The Giants transferred Lee (shoulder) to the 60-day IL on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Lee will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after dislocating his left shoulder Sunday and suffering a torn labrum. He will finish his first season in the majors with a .262/.310/.331 slash line while hitting two homers and driving in eight RBI across 145 plate appearances. Ryan McKenna was claimed off waivers from Baltimore to fill Lee's spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less

Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Undergoing season-ending surgery
Lee is set to undergo season-ending surgery in the next few weeks for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee sustained the injury in the top of the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds, when he crashed into the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch. He was placed on the 10-day IL with what was initially diagnosed as a dislocated left shoulder, but an MRI on Tuesday revealed further structural damage. Lee signed a six-year, $113 million with the Giants in December after seven seasons in the KBO, and he will end his first season in the majors having slashed .262/.310/.331 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI over 158 plate appearances. Luis Matos has started in center field in each game since Lee's injury, and he will reprise that role again Friday against the Rockies.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Structural damage in shoulder
Imaging revealed structural damage in Lee's left shoulder Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Lee landed on the injured list Monday due to a dislocated shoulder, though it appears he may be at risk of missing an extended period of time. The 25-year-old outfielder will receive a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Thursday, at which point more will be known about the duration of Lee's absence. Luis Matos has started both games in center field for the Giants since Lee went down.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Placed on IL
The Giants placed Lee on the 10-day IL on Monday due to a left shoulder dislocation. Lee dislocated his left shoulder when he ran into the outfield wall attempting to make a catch in the top of the first inning of Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Reds. Mike Yastrzemski led off Monday against righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto, while Luis Matos was recalled to start in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Exits game with left arm injury
Lee left in the first inning of Sunday's game against the Reds with a left arm injury, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Lee crashed into the outfield fence attempting to make a catch in the top of the first inning. He fell to the ground and immediately grabbed his left shoulder, and the athletic trainer was holding Lee's left arm as they walked off the field. Lee is coming off a three-game absence due to a sore foot, and it appears the 25-year-old is set to miss even more time with what appears to be a more significant injury. Tyler Fitzgerald has taken over in center field for the rest of Sunday's game.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Sitting out with sore foot
Giants manager Bob Melvin said Lee is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Colorado due to a sore foot which is the result of a foul ball off his leg in Wednesday's contest, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. Lee is receiving treatment and will be reevaluated Friday to see if he's ready to play then. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. Austin Slater is occupying center field in Lee's stead Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Resting Thursday
Lee is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee will exit the starting nine for the first time since April 24 while Austin Slater fills in for him in center field. Unless he's summoned from the bench Thursday, Lee will put his six-game hitting streak on hold before returning to action Friday versus the Reds.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Logs second steal
Lee went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Rays. Lee has two steals over his last three games, and he's hit safely in his last six contests (8-for-27). The outfielder was a little slow to get started in the majors, and he's still hitting just .242 from the leadoff spot. He's added a home run, two steals, four RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles and a 5:6 BB:K through 69 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Swipes first MLB bag
Lee went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Rays. The 25-year-old center fielder created the Giants' only run of the night single-handedly -- Lee led off the third inning with a single, promptly swiped second base, advanced to third on Ben Rortvedt's throwing error and then raced home on a Jacob Waguespack wild pitch. It was Lee's first steal in MLB, but he isn't known as a big threat on the basepaths -- his career high in the KBO was 13 stolen bases, set back in 2019, and he went 6-for-9 on steal attempts with Kiwoon in 2023. Through his first 13 games with San Francisco, Lee is slashing .250/.305/.327 with a homer, four RBI and five runs while hitting leadoff in every contest.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Back in lineup Wednesday
Lee (hamstring) is starting in center field and batting leadoff for the Giants in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee tweaked his left hamstring a week ago but has been cleared to return to action. The 25-year-old has hit .348/.423/.522 for the Giants this spring and projects as the club's everyday center fielder and leadoff man.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Rejoining lineup Tuesday
Lee (side) will start in center field and bat leadoff in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Mariners, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Lee had been in line to make his spring debut in the Giants' Cactus League opener this past Saturday versus the Cubs, but he was scratched from the lineup due to side soreness. After a few days of recovery, however, the 25-year-old looks like he'll be ready to go Tuesday. He'll immediately settle in atop the lineup, which comes as little surprise after manager Bob Melvin said earlier in spring training that he expects Lee to serve as the Giants' primary leadoff man versus both right- and left-handed pitching this season.... Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Held out with side soreness
Lee will not be in the lineup for the Giants' Cactus League opener Saturday against the Cubs due to some minor side soreness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The Giants believe Lee will be ready to play in a couple days, so the injury doesn't look to be something overly concerning. Side injuries do have a tendency to linger, however, so expect the club to exercise the utmost caution with the KBO import. Lee is slated to be the Giants' everyday center fielder and leadoff man in 2024 after inking a six-year, $113 million contract this offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Projected as full-time leadoff man
Manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that he "would be shocked" if Lee didn't open the season as the Giants' leadoff man against both right- and left-handed pitching, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. A rough adjustment period to North American pitching during spring training could alter the Giants' plans for Lee, but San Francisco brought in the 25-year-old outfielder from Korea on a lavish six-year, $113 million deal with the full expectation that the high-contact rate and on-base skills he displayed in the Korea Baseball Organization would immediately translate to MLB. Lee didn't consistently hit for power or flash elite speed during his time in the KBO, but he should be a plus source of batting average and a strong source of runs if he ends up sticking atop the lineup permanently in his first season with the Giants. He's expected to play regularly in center field to begin the campaign, as Lee has already made a full recovery from the surgery he underwent on his left ankle last summer.... See More ... See Less
