Amaya was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. The move will make room for Grae Kessinger (shoulder), who was activated from the 10-day IL, on the active roster. Amaya failed to reach base safely in his only big league at-bat this season.... Astros' Jacob Amaya: Recalled from Triple-A
The Astros recalled Amaya from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. With Chas McCormick (hamstring) headed for the 10-day IL, Amaya will come up from the minors to give the Astros an additional bench bat. However, the 25-year-old infielder is slashing just .190/.297/.302 across 74 plate appearances at Triple-A, so he likely won't see much playing time while with Houston.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Jacob Amaya: Acquired by Houston
The Astros acquired Amaya from the Marlins on Saturday in exchange for cash considerations and Valente Bellozo, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Amaya was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. Amaya, 25, is a glove-first shortstop who has mostly just kept his head above water in the minors with his bat, although he has displayed decent on-base skills. He should get regular reps at shortstop with Sugar Land and offers solid depth at the position in the event something happens to Jeremy Pena.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jacob Amaya: DFA'd by Miami
The Marlins designated Amaya for assignment Tuesday. The 25-year-old missed out on Miami's Opening Day roster and has now been removed from the 40-man roster. Amaya made his big-league debut last season with four appearances for the Marlins and had a .750 OPS in 128 games at the Triple-A level.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Optioned back to Triple-A
Miami optioned Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Amaya went 2-for-9 with no walks and one strikeout during his brief stay on the Marlins' major-league roster. The 24-year-old middle infielder has slashed .278/.346/.472 with nine home runs and 35 RBI in 58 games this season at the Triple-A level and should get another big-league opportunity later this summer.... Marlins' Jacob Amaya: RBI, steal in debut
Amaya went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Sunday's victory over the Nationals. Amaya opened the scoring in his first major-league at-bat, driving in Nick Fortes with a fielder's choice in the second inning. The 24-year-old Amaya then added his first stolen base later in the frame. Amaya was solid in Triple-A this season, slashing .278/.346/.472 with nine homers, 35 RBI and a steal. He should work on the weak side of a shortstop platoon with Joey Wendle in the short term.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Promoted to big leagues
Amaya was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Saturday. Amaya has put together a solid season in Triple-A this year, slashing .277/.344/.469 with nine homers and 35 RBI through 241 plate appearances. Jean Segura (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move, meaning Amaya might see regular reps at shortstop while Joey Wendle shifts to third base -- a temporary change that could become permanent if Amaya holds his own.... Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Sent to minors
The Marlins optioned Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. With Jazz Chisholm and Luis Arraez seemingly locked in as the Marlins' Opening Day starters in the middle infield, Amaya was never a realistic candidate to break camp with the big club. After being acquired from the Dodgers in January in the deal that sent Miguel Rojas to Los Angeles, Amaya will likely have a clearer path to reaching the big leagues in 2023 with his new organization. He was productive in his first taste of the Triple-A level with Oklahoma City in 2022, slashing .259/.368/.381 with eight home runs and three stolen bases across 351 plate appearances.... Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Acquired by Miami
Amaya (undisclosed) was acquired by the Marlins from the Dodgers on Wednesday in exchange for shortstop Miguel Rojas (wrist), Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. Amaya split the 2022 campaign between the Double-A and Triple-A levels and had a .261/.369/.426 slash line across 133 games. He landed on the 60-day injured list in October with an unspecified injury, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of spring training next month.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Lands on 60-day IL
Amaya was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday with an unspecified injury. The 24-year-old was added to the 40-man roster in November and split the 2022 campaign between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Amaya had a .749 OPS in 84 games at Triple-A, and it's unclear how much the injury will affect his offseason program.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Protected from Rule 5 draft
Amaya's contract was selected by the Dodgers on Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. Amaya served as a non-roster invitee during spring training in 2021, but he spent the entire season at Double-A Tulsa and slashed .216/.303/.343 with 12 homers, 60 runs, 47 RBI and five stolen bases. His addition to the 40-man roster will protect him from the Rule 5 draft.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Headed to spring camp
Amaya will attend the Dodgers' big-league camp this spring, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Amaya spent last season at the team's alternate training site after hitting a combined .260 with seven homers and 71 RBI across two levels in 2019. He has considerable defensive talent and a good eye at the plate but hasn't yet demonstrated an ability to hit for power.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Joins 60-man player pool
Amaya was added to the Dodgers' 60-man player pool Monday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. He will report to the Dodgers' alternate training site at USC after being a non-roster invitee during spring training. Amaya, who turns 22 on Sept. 3, has displayed excellent plate skills in the minors, but he has never posted an ISO higher than .132 in full-season ball. He most recently hit .250/.307/.375 with one home run and one steal in 21 games at High-A.... See More ... See Less
