Ronel Blanco HOU SP
Astros' Ronel Blanco: Yields three runs
8m agoBlanco allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six during the win over Seattle.
All the damage against Blanco came via the long ball, with Jorge Polanco going deep in the third inning followed by Dylan Moore in the fifth. Entering Friday's start, Blanco had given up just two homers through 32.2 frames. It was the first time this season he's allowed more than two runs in an outing but he did produce his fifth quality start. Blanco owns a terrific 2.09 ERA with a 36:16 K:BB. His next start is lined up to be on the road against the Yankees.
-
Brennan Bernardino BOS RP
Red Sox's Brennan Bernardino: Starting bullpen game Saturday
16m agoBernardino will open Boston's game versus the Twins on Saturday, Jahmai Webster of NESN reports.
Bernardino has started the year very strong, allowing only one earned run across 12.1 innings. His start Saturday will likely only last an inning or two before the Red Sox turn to their bullpen to finish the game.
-
George Kirby SEA SP
Mariners' George Kirby: Settles for no-decision
19m agoKirby allowed a run on four hits over six innings during a no-decision Friday. He struck out three during the loss to Houston.
Kirby was in line for the win before Seattle's bullpen coughed up the lead. The lone run against him came via Jeremy Pena's RBI groundout in the sixth inning. Kirby was efficient Friday, throwing 60 of 88 pitches for strikes. He's allowed just one run while producing a stellar 22:2 K:BB over his last 18 frames. Of his seven starts this year, Kirby allowed two or fewer runs in five of them. However, he coughed up 13 combined runs in the other two. Kirby is currently projected to start in Minnesota next week.
-
Yimi Garcia TOR RP
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Dealing with back soreness
24m agoGarcia was unavailable for Friday's game against the Nationals due to back soreness, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Garcia reportedly started having issues with his back after his previous appearance Wednesday. Manager John Schneider said after Friday's contest that Garcia is considered day-to-day, so it's unlikely the right-hander will need to spend any time on the injured list.
-
Hunter Greene CIN SP
Reds' Hunter Greene: Sharp again in no-decision
24m agoGreene did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing five hits and four walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
Greene had to contend with some traffic Friday, though he'd ultimately make it through 5.2 innings unscathed. The right-hander fell an out shy of a quality start, though it's his second consecutive scoreless outing -- he blanked the Rangers over seven innings in his last start. Overall, Greene's 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB through 40.1 innings. He's tentatively lined up for a home matchup with the Diamondbacks in his next start.
-
Craig Kimbrel BAL RP
Orioles' Craig Kimbrel: Earns save in return
33m agoKimbrel earned the save in Friday's 3-0 win over Cincinnati, striking out three in a perfect ninth inning.
It was Kimbrel's first appearance in five days, as the veteran right-hander was dealing with back soreness. He certainly didn't show any signs of rust Friday, striking out the side to close out a shutout victory for his eighth save this season. Kimbrel had blown consecutive save chances before he was sidelined, allowing three runs in just a third of an inning. He now sports a 2.92 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB across 12.1 innings this season.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Exits with blurred vision
4h agoBailey was removed from Friday's game against the Phillies due to blurred vision, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Bailey was struck in the face mask by a foul tip off the bat of Alec Bohm during the first inning of Friday's contest and was later replaced by Tom Murphy in the second frame. The Giants are still in the process of evaluating Bailey, but an update on his status may be available after the game.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Exits Friday's game
5h agoBailey (foot) left in the second inning of Friday's game against the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Bailey took a foul ball to his foot in the first inning. He remained in the game but was replaced in the top of the second inning by Tom Murphy.
-
Sean Murphy ATL C
Braves' Sean Murphy: Hitting off tee
5h agoMurphy (oblique) began hitting off the tee during Atlanta's most recent series against Seattle earlier this week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
It's the first time Murphy has swung the bat since landing on the 10-day IL on March 30 with a Grade 1 left oblique strain. Prior to the series in Seattle, Murphy was limited to light throwing and catching work in the bullpen. The 29-year-old has taken a positive step in his program, but he still has a ways to go before starting a rehab assignment.
-
Jonah Heim TEX C
Rangers' Jonah Heim: Sitting Friday
7h agoHeim is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Kansas City.
Heim started the previous six games and will receive a day off after going 4-for-19 with no extra-base hits during that span. Andrew Knizner will step in behind the plate to catch Michael Lorenzen.
-
Korey Lee CHW C
White Sox's Korey Lee: Day off for series opener
8h agoLee is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.
Lee will get the day off Friday against the Cardinals, with Martin Maldonado filling in behind the dish for Brad Keller. Lee owns a .758 OPS with three homers in 58 plate appearances.
-
Yasmani Grandal PIT C
Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Returns from injured list
9h agoThe Pirates activated Grandal (foot) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Grandal got a late start to the season while battling plantar fasciitis in his left foot, but he participated in nine rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis and is feeling well enough to join the active roster. The veteran catcher is likely to share starts behind the dish with Joey Bart.
-
Joey Gallo WAS 1B
Nationals' Joey Gallo: Cleared for rehab assignment
8h agoGallo (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Fredericksburg on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
It's a relatively quick turnaround for Gallo, who went on the injured list less than a week ago with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. Because he's missed so little time, Gallo shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated.
-
Christian Encarnacion-Strand CIN 1B
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Back in action Friday
10h agoEncarnacion-Strand (hand) will start at first base and bat fifth in Friday's game versus the Orioles.
Encarnacion-Strand missed four starts due to lingering left hand soreness following a hit-by-pitch over the weekend, but he's ready to go now. The 24-year-old has slashed a disappointing .196/.222/.314 with a 28.7 percent strikeout rate in 25 contests with the Reds this season.
-
Josh Bell MIA 1B
Marlins' Josh Bell: Clubs fourth homer
13h agoBell went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's extra-inning win over the Rockies.
The first baseman lofted a Peter Lambert curveball over the right-field fence in the third inning, tying the game at 3-3. Bell has struggled out of the gate this season, slashing .185/.273/.306 through 33 contests with four homers, 11 RBI and 16 runs, but the streaky slugger may be heating up -- he went 4-for-12 in the three-game sweep of Colorado.
-
Garrett Cooper BOS 1B
Red Sox's Garrett Cooper: Returns to action
17h agoCooper started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 in Thursday's 3-1 loss to San Francisco.
Cooper was back in action after missing one game due to a right wrist injury. He was plunked by a pitch during Tuesday's game -- his Red Sox debut -- and sat out Wednesday. Bobby Dalbec started at first base Thursday, but he's expected to be optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, which will leave Cooper as the top option at first base. The lefty-hitting Dominic Smith is around to back up Cooper.
-
Jonathan Singleton HOU 1B
Astros' Jon Singleton: Knocks in three runs Thursday
23h agoSingleton went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run and an additional RBI in Thursday's 8-2 win against the Guardians.
Singleton gave Houston its first lead with a two-run blast in the sixth inning and plated the team's final run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. The first baseman has gone deep in two of his past three games, driving in six runs over that span. Though Joey Loperfido was called up Tuesday in correspondence with Jose Abreu being demoted to the minors Wednesday, the rookie has made both of his starts thus far in left field. As such, Singleton could have a path to near-everyday playing time at first base moving forward.
-
Christian Encarnacion-Strand CIN 1B
Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Likely to return Friday
1d agoEncarnacion-Strand (hand) and teammate Tyler Stephenson are expected to return Friday when the Reds host the Orioles, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The Reds' bats went quiet on their 2-4 road trip against the Rangers and Padres, hitting .201 as a team while averaging 10 strikeouts per game on the trip. Of course, Encarnacion-Strand has been struggling this year in both aspects, hitting .196 with a troubling 3:31 BB:K ratio in 108 plate appearances. Perhaps with better health and better weather he will come close to displaying the form he showed in 2023, when he hit .270/.328/.477 in 241 plate appearances at the big-league level.
-
Edouard Julien MIN 2B
Twins' Edouard Julien: Reached base three times
1h agoJulien went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two walks and a stolen base in Friday's win over Boston.
Julien was stuck in an 0-for-11 drought since his last hit April 27. The lefty slugger drove in a run with a third-inning single before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. He's now slashing .222/.342/.485 with 14 RBI and two stolen bases through 31 appearances.
-
Luis Garcia WAS 2B
Nationals' Luis Garcia: Big homer off bench Friday
1h agoGarcia went 1-for-1 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays.
The 23-year-old began the night on the bench with Yusei Kikuchi toeing the rubber for Toronto, but Garcia got the call to pinch hit for Trey Lipscomb in the seventh inning once the southpaw was out of the game. Garcia delivered, launching the first pitch he saw from Erik Swanson to straightaway center field to put the Nationals in the lead for good. The long ball was his second of the season, and the first pinch-hit blast of his career. Garcia is headed toward a breakout campaign, slashing .300/.344/.456 through 27 contests with five steals, six runs and 14 RBI.
-
Luis Arraez MIA 2B
Padres' Luis Arraez: Headed to San Diego
3h agoThe Marlins traded Arraez to the Padres on Friday in exchange for Dillon Head, Woo-suk Go, Nathan Martorella and Jakob Marsee, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
It's not immediately clear how Arraez will fit into the Padres' lineup, as San Diego already has a strong infield unit that includes Jake Cronenworth, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim and Manny Machado, but it's possible Arraez fills in as the Friars' primary designated hitter. The 27-year-old is slashing .299/.347/.372 across 148 plate appearances so far this season, and his departure from Miami leaves Vidal Brujan as the favorite to take over as the Marlins' main second baseman.
-
Tommy Edman STL 2B
Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Increasing baseball activiteis
4h agoEdman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after being limited to the right side due to his surgically repaired right wrist. He was also seen tracking fly balls during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman still appears far away from a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing.
-
Brandon Drury LAA 2B
Angels' Brandon Drury: Sidelined again Friday
8h agoDrury (migraine) isn't part of Friday's lineup against the Guardians.
Drury was scratched from Wednesday's contest due to a migraine, and while it hasn't been confirmed that it's the injury holding him out of Friday's game, it can be assumed that that's the case. Luis Rengifo will make another start at second with Ehire Adrianza over at third.
-
Brandon Lowe TB 2B
Rays' Brandon Lowe: Starting rehab stint Tuesday
8h agoLowe (oblique) will start his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported Friday.
Lowe has been sidelined since April 7 with a strained right oblique but will get back to game action Tuesday at Durham. Until he rejoins the big league club, expect Amed Rosario and Curtis Mead to continue seeing most of the action at second base.
-
Brett Baty NYM 3B
Mets' Brett Baty: Goes yard twice in loss
1h agoBaty went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Rays.
The young third baseman took Aaron Civale deep for a three-run blast in the second inning to open the scoring, and he then connected for a solo shot off Jason Adam in the ninth. It was the first multi-homer performance of Baty's big-league career, and it snapped a 27-game drought for the 24-year-old -- his only other long ball in 2024 came back on March 30. Despite the power outage, Baty has taken a big step forward in his development this year, and through 30 contests he's slashing .271/.340/.385, a massive improvement on last season's .212/.275/.323 line.
-
Ryan McMahon COL 3B
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Launches fifth homer
2h agoMcMahon went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 win over the Pirates.
The 29-year-old led off the sixth inning by hammering a Martin Perez changeup out of PNC Park completely and into the Allegheny River, becoming only the second Colorado player in history to accomplish the feat after Todd Helton back in 2001. Three of McMahon's five homers this year have come in the last eight games, and the power surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .319/.407/.513 with 13 runs and 19 RBI in 32 contests.
-
Danny Mendick CHW 3B
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Battling back tightness
7h agoMendick was scratched from the White Sox's lineup for Friday's game against St. Louis due to lower-back tightness, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
The severity of Mendick's injury remains unknown, but it is apparently enough to prevent him from starting Friday's contest. Braden Shewmake will serve as Chicago's replacement third baseman while batting ninth.
-
Royce Lewis MIN 3B
Twins' Royce Lewis: Could return in late May
7h agoLewis (quad) is on target to return around the original eight-week mark in late-May, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

-
Christopher Morel CHC 3B
Cubs' Christopher Morel: Homers again Friday
7h agoMorel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Brewers.
Morel snapped a scoreless tie with two outs in the sixth inning, launching a solo shot to centerfield off Joe Ross to put the Cubs ahead 1-0. Morel now has homers in back-to-back games and three in his last five contests following a span of 16 games without a long ball. The 24-year-old third baseman is now slashing .210/.286/.403 through 133 plate appearances this year with six homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored and three stolen bases.
-
J.D. Davis OAK 3B
Athletics' J.D. Davis: Returns from IL
7h agoThe Athletics reinstated Davis (thigh) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
The 31-year-old went 3-for-15 during a four-game rehab sitnt with Triple-A Las Vegas and is back in the lineup Friday for Oakland, as he's starting at first base and batting fifth. Davis posted a .196/.255/.373 slash line in 14 games prior to suffering the adductor strain.
-
Oneil Cruz PIT SS
Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Ends homer drought Friday
2h agoCruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.
The 25-year-old shortstop had gone 17 straight games without a homer coming into Friday and nearly made it 18. but he got hold of a Jalen Beeks changeup in the ninth inning to make things close for the Pirates. It was Cruz's fourth long ball of the season and his first off a southpaw, and the RBI were his first since April 22. While the performance was encouraging, he still sports a disappointing .240/.287/.364 slash line through 33 contests with three steals, nine runs and 10 RBI.
-
Trea Turner PHI SS
Phillies' Trea Turner: Removed with sore hamstring
4h agoTurner was removed from Friday's game against the Giants due to left hamstring soreness, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Turner stole second base and then scored from second on a passed ball during the fourth inning, but he was replaced on defense by Edmundo Sosa before the fifth frame. It remains unknown how severe Turner's injury is, but the Phillies should offer an update on his status in the near future.
-
Romy Gonzalez BOS SS
Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Begins assignment Friday
7h agoGonzalez (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
After a slower-than-expected recovery from a left wrist sprain, Gonzalez will now begin the final step of his rehab process. The Red Sox haven't specified exactly how long they plan on keeping the 27-year-old infielder in the minors, but he shouldn't require too long of an assignment if everything goes smoothly.
-
Nick Allen OAK SS
Athletics' Nick Allen: Optioned to Las Vegas
7h agoThe Athletics optioned Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
Allen will return to the minors after slashing .171/.227/.243 across 77 plate appearances to begin the season. The 25-year-old infielder may return to Oakland if he's able to replicate his .939 Triple-A OPS from last year, but his reputation as an offensive liability in the majors could make the team hesitant to call him back up.
-
Vaughn Grissom BOS SS
Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Activated, batting seventh in debut
8h agoGrissom (hamstring/illness) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Friday against the Twins.
The 23-year-old is recovered from a bout with the flu and has joined the Red Sox a few days later than initially expected. Grissom has a career .287/.339/.407 slash line in 64 big-league games and should see plenty of playing time at the keystone for the Red Sox.
-
Brayan Rocchio CLE SS
Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Records fifth steal
22h agoRocchio went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Astros.
Rocchio is up to five steals on the year, four of which have come over his last six games. In that span, he's hitting .294 (5-for-17) with a 5:6 BB:K and four runs scored. Rocchio is up to a .218/.317/.310 slash line with no home runs, four RBI, 14 runs scored and seven doubles through 102 plate appearances. He continues to hold down the starting job at shortstop while hitting at the bottom of the order.
-
Jonny DeLuca TB LF
Rays' Jonny DeLuca: Swipes bag in return
1h agoDeLuca went 1-for-4 with a run scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 10-8 win over the Mets.
Getting the start in center field against lefty Jose Quintana and batting eighth in his 2024 debut, DeLuca made a big impact in his return from a hand injury. The 25-year-old figures to handle a short-side platoon role in a Tampa Bay outfield that remains in flux due to Josh Lowe's hamstring strain, and poor starts at the plate for Jose Siri (thigh/suspension) and Randy Arozarena.
-
Randy Arozarena TB LF
Rays' Randy Arozarena: On base four times Friday
1h agoArozarena went 1-for-2 with three walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 10-8 win over the Mets.
The 29-year-old outfielder has had a brutal start to 2024 that includes what would be a career-high 29.1 percent strikeout rate and a career-low .455 OPS, but Arozarena came through with a solid performance in a wild win. His fourth-inning long ball off Dedniel Nunez was his fourth homer in 32 games to go along with four steals, and Arozarena has contributed a respectable 14 runs and 15 RBI despite his woeful .145/.242/.265 slash line.
-
Lawrence Butler OAK RF
Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Sits down against lefty
5h agoButler isn't in Oakland's lineup for Friday's game against Miami.

-
J.J. Bleday OAK CF
Athletics' JJ Bleday: Idle against southpaw
5h agoBleday isn't in Oakland's lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins.
With lefty Ryan Weathers set to toe the slab for Miami, Bleday will step out of the lineup. Esteury Ruiz will take over in center field and bat in the leadoff spot.
-
Seth Brown OAK LF
Athletics' Seth Brown: Resting against lefty
5h agoBrown isn't in the Athletics' lineup Friday against the Marlins.
Left-hander Ryan Weathers will take the mound Friday for Miami, meaning the left-handed bat of Brown will stay put in Oakland's dugout. Max Schuemann will fill the opening in left field and bat seventh.
-
Jason Heyward LAD RF
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Begins baseball activities
5h agoDodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Heyward (back) ran at full speed and has begun swinging a bat, J.P. Hoornstra of DodgersNation.com reports.
Heyward landed on the 10-day IL on April 3 due to lower back tightness. The injury persisted well past his return window, and Friday marked the firs time that the veteran outfielder has participated in any sort of activity. The Dodgers will have a better idea on how to move forward once they see how Heyward's back responds to his most recent work.
-
Ronel Blanco HOU SP
Astros' Ronel Blanco: Yields three runs
8m agoBlanco allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six during the win over Seattle.

-
Hunter Greene CIN SP

-
Tanner Houck BOS SP
Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Tagged with four runs
1h agoHouck (3-3) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over six-plus innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against Minnesota.
Houck gave up just one run through six frames before stumbling in the seventh. He allowed three straight runners to reach base without recording an out and was eventually charged with all three runs. He matched his season high with four runs allowed; in his other five starts this year, Houck has given up just three total runs through 33.2 innings. On top of that, he tied his season low by generating only six swinging strikes. Houck will carry a 2.18 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up to be at home against the Nationals next week.
-
Aaron Civale TB SP
Rays' Aaron Civale: Bailed out by offense
1h agoCivale escaped with a no-decision Friday in Tampa Bay's 10-8 win over the Mets, coughing up seven runs on six hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
New York tagged him for three runs in the second inning and four more in the fifth, but Civale still left the mound with the Rays ahead 9-7. The right-hander tossed 52 of 77 pitches for strikes as he allowed five or more runs for the third straight outing. The rough patch has sent his ratios soaring, and Civale will carry a 6.14 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 39:10 K:BB through 36.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the White Sox.
-
Brennan Bernardino BOS RP

16m agoBernardino will open Boston's game versus the Twins on Saturday, Jahmai Webster of NESN reports.

-
Yimi Garcia TOR RP
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Dealing with back soreness
24m agoGarcia was unavailable for Friday's game against the Nationals due to back soreness, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Garcia reportedly started having issues with his back after his previous appearance Wednesday. Manager John Schneider said after Friday's contest that Garcia is considered day-to-day, so it's unlikely the right-hander will need to spend any time on the injured list.
-
Craig Kimbrel BAL RP
-
Josh Hader HOU RP
Astros' Josh Hader: Notches third save
38m agoHader issued a walk over one scoreless frame Friday. He struck out two and earned a save over the Mariners.
Hader needed 22 pitches (13 strikes) to finish off the 5-3 win but still came away with his third save as an Astro. It was his first save since April 19 and he's converted three of his four opportunities so far. He's produced an impressive 23:7 K:BB despite an unsightly 5.93 ERA through 13.2 frames. Hader has punched out seven batters while not allowing an earned run over his last four innings.
-
Jason Adam TB RP
Rays' Jason Adam: Picks up second save
1h agoAdam gave up a run on two hits and struck out one in the ninth inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 10-8 win over the Mets.
The right-hander has collected saves in back-to-back appearances, but he's looked a bit shaky both times. Adam served up a solo shot to Brett Baty on Friday before giving up a two-out double to Brandon Nimmo that brought the tying run to the plate. Adam's 1.80 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB through 15 innings on the season remain impressive, but with Pete Fairbanks (forearm) set to begin a rehab assignment next week, he should return to setup duties before long.
-
Jhoan Duran MIN RP
Twins' Jhoan Duran: Slams door for save
1h agoDuran struck out two batters in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Red Sox on Friday.
Duran needed just 11 pitches to quickly retire the middle third of Boston's lineup in order. He's struck out three batters while grabbing a pair of saves in two appearances since returning from the injured lust. The 26-year-old posted terrific numbers last season -- 2.45 ERA and 12.1 K/9 through 62.1 innings -- and should see plenty of save chances throughout the year.

Masataka Yoshida BOS DH
Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Getting second opinion
6h agoManager Alex Cora said Friday that Yoshida will get a second opinion on his strained left thumb, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Cora previously said Thursday that Yoshida may need to undergo surgery on his thumb after straining it during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but the 30-year-old will wait to hear from another doctor before determining the best course of action. Yoshida has slashed .275/.348/.388 with 11 RBI across 89 plate appearances this season, and an update on his status should be available within the next several days.

Wyatt Langford TEX DH
Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Receiving Friday off
7h agoLangford is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.
Langford started the previous 15 games and will receive a day to reset after he posted a .542 OPS during that stretch. Travis Jankowski will bat eighth as the designated hitter Friday for Texas.

Nelson Velazquez KC DH
Royals' Nelson Velazquez: Sitting again
9h agoVelazquez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.
Velazquez has been less and less of an everyday option for the Royals as the team continues to trot out lineups with Salvador Perez as first, Vinnie Pasquantino at DH and Freddy Fermin behind the dish. Velazquez hasn't done much to warrant an everyday role after starting the season red-hot, with just one hit in his last 27 at-bats.

Estevan Florial CLE DH
Guardians' Estevan Florial: Not starting Friday
9h agoFlorial is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Florial will get a rare off day against a right-handed pitcher, with Jose Ramirez filling in at DH and Gabriel Arias playing third against the Angels' Jose Soriano. Time on the bench against RHP could become more common though, as Florial has stumbled to a .196 batting average and a 40.6 percent strikeout rate through 20 games and 64 plate appearances.

Gary Sanchez MIL DH
Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Available off bench
12h agoBrewers manager Pat Murphy said Friday that Sanchez (hamstring) is not yet 100 percent but is "good to go" and will be available off the bench, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Eric Haase is on the Brewers' taxi squad just in case, but it doesn't appear at this point that the team plans to add him to the active roster. Sanchez had to be removed from Tuesday's game against the Rays with right hamstring tightness, but it sounds like he could pinch hit Friday, if needed.

Matt Carpenter STL DH
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Begins rehab assignment
15h agoCarpenter (oblique) has been sent to Double-A Springfield to begin a rehab assignment.
What would have been Carpenter's first rehab game was rained out Thursday, but he's been cleared for game action after missing the last month with a right oblique strain. It's not clear how many rehab at-bats the 38-year-old will need before being activated. Once he does return, he'll give the Cardinals another option at designated hitter.
