Player Outlook
Miguel Andujar spent the 2023 season in the Pirates organization, though he earned only 90 plate appearances at the big-league level. He'll have a new home in 2024, as he was claimed by the Athletics after being waived in early November. From an opportunity perspective, there's not much of a better landing spot, though Andujar will still need to compete with the likes of Seth Brown, Brent Rooker and JJ Bleday for regular run at corner outfield or DH. Given his lack of playing time in the majors since 2018 - he's never surpassed 162 PA in the last five seasons - it's difficult to get a true gauge of Andujar's potential, though he has consistently possessed a solid hit tool and command of the strike zone. There's not likely to be much power, but given the state of his current club, Andujar is a name worth keeping in mind in the final rounds of AL-only or deep draft-and-hold formats.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Records first steal Friday

Andujar went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run in a loss to Atlanta on Friday. Andujar provided the only multi-hit effort of the night for the Athletics, who were mostly stymied by Reynaldo Lopez and three relievers. Andujar already has a trio of extra-base hits since making his delayed season debut May 24, and he's quickly cobbled together a .375 average and .943 OPS by hitting safely in five of his first six games of the campaign.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Plates pair in multi-hit effort

Andujar went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday. Andujar's torrid start after a delayed season debut continued in the one-run loss, with the multi-hit effort serving as his second in his first four starts. The veteran has already knocked in seven runs, carrying over the momentum he'd generated during a stellar spring training before suffering a knee injury.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Swats first homer of season

Andujar went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Rays. The 29-year-old accounted for all the offense in the game when he took Zack Littell deep in the sixth inning. It was Andujar's first homer of the season, and he appears to be getting a chance to lock down the starting role in left field -- he's started three of four games since being activated from the injured list, going 4-for-12 with five RBI.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Three hits in season debut

Andujar went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros. Andujar had RBI singles in the first and seventh innings in his season debut. The outfielder missed nearly two months with a torn meniscus in his right knee and hit .389 (7-for-18) during a five-game rehab stint at Triple-A Las Vegas. Andujar will join a suddenly crowded Oakland outfield, with his best chance for playing time coming in left field in competition with fellow right-handed hitters Brent Rooker and Daz Cameron.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Reinstated from IL

The Athletics reinstated Andujar (knee) from the injured list Friday. Andujar has been on the injured list all season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee shortly before Opening Day. It had been previously reported that he was in line to make several more rehab starts at Triple-A Las Vegas, but the A's believe the 29-year-old is healthy enough to return from his assignment early. In five games with Las Vegas, Andujar went 7-for-18 with six RBI and scored three runs. Brett Harris was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Rehab assignment continuing

Andujar (knee) is slated to remain at Triple-A Las Vegas for several more rehab games, per the Associated Press, and he went 0-for-4 with a walk in the Aviators' loss to Tacoma on Wednesday. Andujar put in a full game's worth of plate appearances at designated hitter, and he's apparently set to spend at least a few more days with Las Vegas before activation is considered. The veteran has played four games with the Aviators so far, hitting .357 (5-for-14) with three doubles, five RBI, Wednesday's walk and a run. However, he's only played defense in one of those contests, logging six innings in left field against El Paso on Saturday.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Evaluation coming Monday

Andujar (knee) will be evaluated by the Athletics on Monday after playing for a second consecutive day for Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, MLB.com reports. Andujar made his rehab debut for the Aviators on Thursday and returned to the field Saturday, going 0-for-3 while playing a full game in left field during the loss to El Paso. If Andujar feels good after playing back-to-back rehab games over the weekend, he may be deemed ready for activation early in the week.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Knocks in three in rehab debut

Andujar (knee) went 2-for-3 with a three-run double Thursday as the designated hitter for Triple-A Las Vegas. Andujar was lifted for a pinch hitter late in the game, but his timing at the plate appeared to be in fine form despite an extended layoff. The multi-hit effort was reminiscent of the red-hot spring Andujar enjoyed before it was cut short by his knee injury, and the veteran may not need a long rehab assignment before getting added to Oakland's big-league roster.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Beginning assignment Thursday

Andujar (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Andujar has been going through workouts with the Aviators over the past few days, and he is now scheduled to get back into game action soon. The A's haven't indicated how long they intend on keeping the 29-year-old in the minors, but he will likely need to see a good amount of at-bats after spending the past two months recovering from knee surgery.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Runs bases Wednesday

Andujar (knee) ran the bases at Oakland Coliseum on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Andujar just recently had a minor setback with his surgically repaired right knee while taking batting practice, so it's certainly a good sign that he's already been cleared to run the bases. He's been out since late March and will need a good number of rehab at-bats in the minors prior to being activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Slight setback in recovery

Andujar has been experiencing some lateral soreness in his surgically repaired right knee after recently beginning to take batting practice, MLB.com reports. Manager Mark Kotsay labeled the development a "slight setback" that will slow Andujar's progress briefly. The veteran will eventually need a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, so this latest interruption in his recovery could push his potential return into the latter portion of May.

Andujar (knee) has begun playing catch and is expected to begin running and hitting next week, the Associated Press reports. The Athletics placed Andujar (knee) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. Andujar is expected to miss at least the first month of the season while he recovers from right knee lateral meniscus surgery, a procedure that entails a 4-to-6 week recovery. • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Set to undergo surgery

An MRI revealed that Andujar suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee, and he will undergo surgery March 27, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Andujar felt discomfort in his right leg during a Cactus League game last week, and an MRI revealed the bad news Friday. Manager Mark Kotsay said Saturday that the recovery timeline for Andujar is at least 4-to-6 weeks. The 29-year-old was hitting the ball well in spring training, batting .357/.372/.738 with five home runs and 15 RBI over 42 at-bats. The recovery timeline would put an estimated return date near early May for the veteran outfielder.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Hitless in return to action

Andujar (calf) slotted into the designated hitter role in a Cactus League loss to the Brewers on Saturday and went 0-for-4. Andujar's return after a one-game absence featured a rare quiet day at the plate for him this spring, but conventional wisdom indicates the veteran is in excellent position to secure a reserve outfielder role on the Opening Day roster. Martin Gallegos of MLB.com confirms as much in his latest projection of who'll break camp with the Athletics, with Andujar's .361/.378/.722 slash line in Cactus League play making quite the case for his inclusion.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Returns to action

Andujar (calf) is starting as Oakland's designated hitter Saturday against the Brewers. Calf issues prevented Andujar from playing Thursday against the Cubs, and he had also been scratched from Friday's lineup before the game was canceled due to rain. However, he seemingly is healthy enough to give it another shot Saturday. Andujar has been one of Oakland's most productive bats this spring, going 13-for-32 with four homers and 13 RBI through 11 games.
