  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Heading to AHL

Morrow was assigned to AHL Chicago on Sunday.

Morrow was sidelined for several weeks early in training camp due to an undisclosed injury. While he's now recovered, the 21-year-old will begin the regular season in the minors. He made 37 appearances for UMass-Amherst last year, tallying six goals and 30 points. Morrow could rejoin the Hurricanes at some point if the team deals with injuries.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Slated to play Friday

Morrow (undisclosed) is expected to play in Friday's preseason game against the Lightning, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Morrow has been dealing with an undisclosed injury over the last week, but he recently practiced in a regular jersey and will likely be able to suit up in the first half of a back-to-back Friday. The 21-year-old logged six goals and 30 points over 37 appearances with UMass-Amherst last year but could struggle to earn much playing time in the NHL this season.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Makes strides towards return

Morrow didn't skate with the game group ahead of Wednesday's preseason contest against Florida, but he did practice with those who aren't expected to play while wearing a regular jersey, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

That would suggest Morrow is clear for contact, which is a good sign that he might be able to play in the near future. The 21-year-old defenseman had six goals and 30 points in 37 appearances with UMass-Amherst in 2023-24. He also appeared in two regular-season games with Carolina, recording six shots, one hit and two blocks.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Nearing return

Morrow (undisclosed) will not be an option against Florida in Friday's preseason contest, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.

Although Morrow won't play in Friday's contest, coach Rod Brind'Amour said that the 21-year-old "will be back any day now," Ruff reports. Morrow will be hard-pressed to earn time at the NHL level this season -- Carolina has a veteran-laden defense core. The 2021 second-round pick was highly productive during his time at UMass-Amherst -- he registered 94 points in 109 regular-season contests from the back end over the course of three seasons.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Back on shelf

Morrow will again miss practice Thursday due to an undisclosed injury, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Morrow had been back on the ice Monday in a regular jersey but has now missed the last two practice days due to a seeming recurrence of his undisclosed injury. The 21-year-old blueliner was going to need to impress during training camp to break into the Opening Night roster. As a result of his missed time, Morrow is almost certainly destined to start the year with AHL Chicago. At this point, Morrow seems unlikely to play in either Friday or Saturday's matchups with Florida.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Back at practice

Morrow (undisclosed), as expected, returned to practice in a regular sweater Monday, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports.

Morrow played in his first two NHL games last year, registering six shots, one hit and a minus-3 rating in 18:23 of ice time per game. Still, despite the limited experience, the 21-year-old blueliner should be in the mix for an Opening Night roster spot coming out of training camp -- though if he isn't going to see a lot of minutes, he might be better suited for the minors.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Sitting out Friday

Morrow was not on the ice for Friday's training camp session, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports.

Morrow made his NHL debut last year, registering six shots, one hit and a minus-3 rating in two outings. Barring a long-term injury, the youngster should be in the mix for an Opening Night roster spot, though all three pairings seem fairly set heading into the start of preseason action. Don't be surprised to see Morrow starting the year with AHL Chicago but being atop the shortlist of potential call-ups.
