  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Dropped to minors

Norlinder was assigned to AHL Laval on Sunday.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Summoned from AHL

Norlinder was brought up from AHL Laval on Tuesday.

In a corresponding move, Jordan Harris (lower body) was put on injured reserve. Norlinder will provide the Canadiens with some defensive depth during the team's three-game road trip in California. He has one goal and one assist in 14 AHL contests this campaign.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Heads to minors

Norlinder was assigned to AHL Laval on Monday.

Norlinder notched two goals and 19 points in 67 AHL contests with the Rocket last season. The 23-year-old defender could end up seeing NHL action at some this campaign, but it wouldn't be a surprise if the majority of his time is spent in the minors.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Seizes opportunity

Norlinder remains in the mix for a roster spot, Arpon Basu of The Athletic reports.

Norlinder is coming off what may have been his best game in Monday's preseason overtime win against Toronto. He was on the ice in the final moments and made a couple of plays leading up to Josh Anderson's game-tying goal with 42 seconds left. He also partnered with David Savard against a heavy dose of Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner at five-on-five. Perhaps most importantly, the Canadiens are in need of a defenseman who can quarterback the second power-play unit. The 23-year-old Swede led Montreal's blueliners with 2:24 of power-play time in Monday's contest and scored the game's first goal while on the man advantage.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Headed back to Sweden

Norlinder will spend the rest of the 2020-21 campaign playing in his native Sweden, the team announced Thursday.

Norlinder played in six games with the Habs this season while logging the same number of contests in the minors with AHL Laval. The 21-year-old blueliner will link back up with Frolunda HC for which he notched 20 points in 37 outings last year. Once the SHL season wraps up, Norlinder could rejoin the Rocket for the end of their campaign.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Sent down to minors

Norlinder was reassigned to AHL Laval on Tuesday.

Norlinder has appeared in six games for the Habs this season in which he has tallied one assist, four hits and two shots while averaging just 12:18 of ice time. By rejoining the Rocket, Norlinder should see significantly more ice time in the minors, possibly even on the power play, which will better serve his long-term development. In a corresponding move, Corey Schueneman was brought up from the minors.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Records first NHL point

Norlinder had an assist, two hits, one blocked shot and two PIM in Saturday's 6-3 win over Pittsburgh.

Norlinder fired a puck that didn't reach the net but caromed off bodies and sticks in front before Artturi Lehkonen deposited Montreal's third goal. It was the first NHL point for Norlinder, who also picked up his first penalty.

  • Canadiens' Mattias Norlinder: Makes NHL debut

Norlinder had one shot on goal, one hit and one blocked shot over 17:39 of ice time in Thursday's 6-0 loss to Pittsburgh.

Norlinder made his NHL debut Thursday and was one of three Canadiens not on the ice for a Penguin tally. He replaced Chris Wideman in the lineup and served on the first-unit power play, a nod to his offensive potential. The Habs need to evaluate Norlinder, who had been rehabbing an undisclosed injury. If the 2019 third-round pick does not stick with the team, Norlinder must be returned to Frolunda HC in Sweden.
