  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Placed on IR

The Chiefs placed Watson (lower leg) on injured reserve Tuesday.

Watson fractured his ankle during Sunday's win over the 49ers, an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the 2024 regular season, though he could be available to come back off IR if the Chiefs make a deep playoff run, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. With Watson sidelined, Nazeeh Johnson should have the inside track on Joshua Williams for the second starting corner job opposite Trent McDuffie, though the Chiefs signed Keith Taylor on Tuesday to bring in some additional depth and competition at the position.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Done for regular season, at least

Watson (lower leg) is slated to undergo surgery in the coming days to repair a fractured left fibula-tibia and will miss the remainder of the 2024 regular season, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Watson has a chance to return to the field should the Chiefs still be in contention late in the playoffs, but his recovery timetable may also sideline him longer than January or February. The third-year pro had been essentially an every-down player at outside cornerback for Kansas City, so his absence will afford Nazeeh Johnson and Joshua Williams additional starting reps at outside cornerback. Expect Watson to be officially placed on IR in the near future.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Suffers signifcant injury

Watson suffered a fractured ankle in Sunday's win over the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Watson was spotted with crutches and a cast after the victory, so the news isn't exactly surprising. The Washington State product will undergo further imagining Monday to determine the severity of the fracture and whether or not he may be able to return at some point later this season. Watson's likely absence in the weeks ahead will leave the Chiefs without one of their starting corners and afford increased opportunity for Nazeeh Johnson and Joshua Williams.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: On crutches

Watson (ankle) was on crutches and wearing a cast after Sunday's 28-18 win over the 49ers, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

The cornerback suffered the injury during the game after making three tackles (two solo). Watson has 32 tackles (21 solo) and six passes defensed this season. Joshua Williams and Nazeeh Johnson should see more action if Watson is forced to miss time.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Done for day

Watson (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's contest against the 49ers.

Watson's day is officially done after he suffered an ankle injury in the second half versus San Francisco. Moving forward, if Watson is unavailable, Joshua Williams and Nazeeh Johnson will see added work in the secondary with Kansas City.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Exits early Sunday

Watson (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the 49ers.

Watson sustained the ankle injury in the second half versus San Francisco and if he can't return, the cornerback will finish his day with three total tackles (one solo). In Watson's absence, Joshua Williams and Nazeeh Johnson are candidates to step into larger roles in the secondary.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Leads team in tackles Week 1

Watson notched 11 tackles (seven solo) and one pass defensed during Thursday's 27-20 win over the Ravens.

Watson played 96 percent of defensive snaps versus the Ravens on Thursday, effectively starting over Joshua Williams. If Watson has truly earned the starting job across from Trent McDuffie at cornerback, as is reflected on Kansas City's depth chart for Week 1, he'll warrant consideration in IDP formats heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Bengals. It's possible, though, that Williams is simply being eased back into action after having missed much of the preseason due to a hamstring issue.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Comes off PUP list

The Chiefs activated Jones (undisclosed) off the active/PUP list Wednesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Jones could still be nursing the undisclosed injury that landed him on Kansas City's active/PUP list earlier in July, but he was able to return to practice Wednesday. The 2022 seventh-round pick out of Washington State will likely be competing for a rotational spot in the Chiefs' secondary now that he's back on the field.

  • Chiefs' Jaylen Watson: Placed on PUP list

The Chiefs placed Watson on the active/PUP list Wednesday with an undisclosed injury.

He'll be eligible to come off the PUP list at any time during training camp or the preseason, once the Chiefs deem him healthy enough to practice. The 2022 seventh-round draft pick was a rotational contributor in the Kansas City secondary last season, but he now appears primed for a more pivotal role in 2024 following the departure of L'Jarius Sneed.
