  • Rams' CJ Daniels: Won't make NFL debut in Thursday's opener

Daniels (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Thursday's matchup versus San Francisco in Melbourne, Australia, Nate Atkins of The Athletic reports. Daniels was able to make the Rams' 53-man roster with a strong showing during the preseason, but he isn't high enough in the pecking order at this point to be active on gameday. Los Angeles will roll with Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield and Xavier Smith as its WR corps Thursday.

  • Rams' CJ Daniels: Five receptions in finale

Daniels caught five of his six targets for 42 yards in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers. Daniels received all of his targets from rookie first-round quarterback Ty Simpson. The wide receiver played 34 starting offensive snaps before retiring for the preseason. The rookie sixth-rounder's chance of making the Rams' 53-man roster will be a close call, but there is a good chance he will either beat out Xavier Smith for the spot or the Rams will keep seven wide receivers. If Daniels is waived during Sunday's cutdown day, he will likely be claimed by another franchise. However, if Daniels is waived and not claimed, he will likely end up as one of the primary depth options on the Rams' practice squad throughout the 2026 season.

  • Rams' CJ Daniels: Paces LAR pass catchers Saturday

Daniels caught eight passes on 13 targets for 68 yards during the Rams' 34-0 preseason win over the Saints on Saturday. The rookie sixth-rounder saw far more work Saturday than he did in the Rams' preseason opener against the Chiefs. Daniels ended up leading both teams in catches, receiving yards and targets, and he logged receptions of 11, 17 and 11 yards on the Rams' final offensive series of the first half, leading to a 26-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis. Daniels is up to 10 catches on 18 targets for 86 yards through two preseason games, and he has real momentum toward earning a depth spot on the Rams' 53-man roster by the end of training camp. His last opportunity for an in-game audition will take place Thursday in the Rams' preseason finale against the Chargers.

  • Rams' CJ Daniels: Picked up by Rams

The Rams selected Daniels in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 197th overall. Daniels played for three different schools during his six-year college career, which ended with Miami in 2025, when he caught 50 passes for 557 yards and seven touchdowns across 13 games. He brings a 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with good instincts and an all-around package that can help him compete at the NFL level, even if there isn't a specific category or trait that he excels in. Daniels will have the opportunity to compete against Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield for the Rams' WR3 spot behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
