Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Limited in return to practice
Rotowire
Thompson (quadriceps) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Wednesday's practice was Thompson's first since Week 2 prep, with the rookie fourth-rounder missing the Chargers' last two games due to a quadriceps injury. However, he told reporters after Wednesday's session that he's unsure whether he'll be cleared to return for Sunday's AFC West showdown against the Broncos, per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com. A full practice over the next two days would put Thompson on track to play in Week 6, and his return would be a welcome one for the Chargers, given that top wideout Ladd McConkey is considered week-to-week due to a foot injury.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Ruled out for Week 4
Rotowire
Thompson (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Thompson will miss a second consecutive game while working through a quadriceps injury. He was unable to practice during Week 4 prep, so a limited session ahead of Week 5 against the Broncos would indicate that the rookie fourth-rounder is progressing in his recovery. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Derius Davis will both work in rotational roles behind Ladd McConkey (foot), Quentin Johnston and Tre' Harris in Thompson's absence.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Not yet ready to practice
Rotowire
Thompson (quadriceps) didn't practice Thursday.
Thompson is dealing with a quad injury that already sidelined him for this past Sunday's loss to Buffalo. He's begun Week 4 prep with consecutive DNPs, so his chance of suiting up Sunday versus Seattle is looking quite grim. Prior to getting hurt, Thompson recorded one catch on three targets for 13 yards over his first two games.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Idle for Thursday's practice
Rotowire
Thompson (quadriceps) did not practice Thursday.
Thompson has missed each of the first two practices of Week 3 prep while tending to a quadriceps injury, and he'll have one more opportunity to practice in at least a limited capacity ahead of Sunday's road game against the Bills. The rookie fourth-rounder has operated in a depth role through the first two games of the regular season, logging one catch (on three targets) for 13 yards in that span. Derius Davis and recent free agent signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling would see more involvement in the offense if Thompson is unable to play in Buffalo.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Tending to hip issue
Rotowire
Thompson (hip) was a limited participant at practice Thursday.

Thompson (undisclosed) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Thompson returned to practice Monday after missing the last two weeks with an undisclosed issue. The wide receiver's designation as limited in Wednesday's first official practice means he may be able to suit up for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cardinals.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Back at practice Sunday
Rotowire
Thompson (undisclosed) was on the field for Sunday's training camp practice, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Thompson was sporting a non-contact jersey during Sunday's session, but it's a positive sign after he was held out of Saturday's practice due to an unspecified injury. The rookie fourth-rounder is battling for a rotational spot in the Chargers' offense, and he'll look to make his case for regular playing time in Thursday's preseason finale against the Rams. Thompson has caught three passes on eight targets for 39 yards through two preseason games, adding one punt return for 12 yards.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Absent from Saturday's practice
Rotowire
Thompson (undisclosed) did not participate in Saturday's practice, Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.
Thompson exited Thursday's preseason game against the 49ers early due to injury. He was taken to the blue medical tent and his night was promptly over. It remains unclear what type of injury Thompson is dealing with, but a quick exit and inability to practice are not good signs. If the 23-year-old must miss time, KeAndre Lambert-Smith could see significantly more attention in the rest of the preseason and the start of the regular season.

Both Thompson and Lambert-Smith are trying to push Tre' Harris for a spot in three-receiver sets alongside Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. Thompson's likely to maintain a prominent role in the Chargers' second preseason game against the 49ers on Aug. 20.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Drafted by Chargers
Rotowire
The Chargers selected Thompson in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 105th overall.
Thompson is a speedster who put up eye-popping numbers in Jeff Lebby's offense at Mississippi State in 2025, racking up 57 grabs for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns. He's undersized at 5-foot-9, 166 pounds, however, he possesses blazing speed, posting a 4.26 40-time at the NFL Combine, which isn't surprising given his track background. The Chargers already have a trio of impressive receivers in Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Tre' Harris, but Thompson could slot in behind that group and see the field in the slot if McConkey needs a breather or misses any time.
