Coleman (ankle) is being placed on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Coleman has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and was unable to practice all week. He'll now go on IR and will be required to miss at least four games, meaning the earliest he can return is Week 7 against the Cardinals on Sunday, Oct. 25. With Coleman sidelined, Tyler Badie could see an uptick in offensive snaps as the third option in the Broncos' backfield behind J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Won't play this week
Rotowire
Coleman (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams.
A reporter spotted Coleman on the field for Friday's practice, but he apparently didn't end up participating as the Broncos ultimately gave him the 'DNP' designation. It does seem Coleman could be back as soon as Week 4, though it's not clear what his role would be. For now, Denver's backfield work will largely fall to J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey against the Rams.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Present for practice
Rotowire
Coleman (ankle) returned to practice Friday, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports.
J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey have also been banged up, both both upgraded to full practice participation Thursday and seem ready to play this Sunday against the Rams. Coleman's status is less clear, though he might not have much of a role anyway with both Dobbins and Harvey on track to play. With Harvey out last week and Dobbins exiting early, Coleman took 13 touches for 58 yards and a TD in the 20-13 win over Jacksonville. A repeat performance doesn't appear likely this weekl, but he's at least started building his case for role growth throughout the season.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Sits out another practice
Rotowire
Coleman (ankle) was listed as a non-participant on Thursday's injury report.
Coleman was present for Thursday's session, but the ankle injury he sustained Sunday prevented him from getting any work for the second time in as many days. Backfield mates J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey are in the clear for Week 3 after both practicing fully Thursday, and Coleman will likely need to get at least some work in Friday if he hopes to join them.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Back at practice Wednesday
Rotowire
Coleman (ankle) was spotted on the field for the media-access portion of Thursday's practice, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Coleman was sidelined for the Broncos' first practice of the week Wednesday due to an ankle sprain, but he looks poised to take a step forward in terms of activity a day later. He's one of three Denver running backs on the Week 3 injury report, though Coleman, J.K. Dobbins (hip) and RJ Harvey (hamstring) all appear set to practice in some fashion Thursday.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: DNP on Wednesday
Rotowire
Coleman (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Earlier Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Coleman was tending to an ankle sprain, which added insult to injury to a banged-up Denver backfield. In addition to Coleman, J.K. Dobbins (hip) and RJ Harvey (hamstring, inactive Week 2) were limited at Wednesday's session, leaving plenty of murkiness at the position ahead of Sunday's showdown with the Rams. Coleman likely will need to mix into drills Thursday and/or Friday to have a chance to suit up Week 3.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: On mend from ankle sprain
Rotowire
Coleman is tending to a sprained ankle, which he sustained in Sunday's 20-13 win over Jacksonville, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
With RJ Harvey (hamstring) sitting out the Week 2 win and with J.K. Dobbins (hamstring) missing the entire fourth quarter, Coleman took on an expanded role out of the backfield, finishing with 58 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 13 touches (10 carries, three receptions). He appears to have emerged from that game with a health concern of his own, making the practice activity of each of Denver's top three running backs worthy of monitoring leading up this coming Sunday's game versus the Rams. According to Schefter, Harvey is making good progress in his recovery, while Dobbins avoided a major setback and is expected to practice in some capacity this week.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Week 3 Waiver Priority List
Rotowire
We'll see what happens with J.K. Dobbins (hamstring) and RJ Harvey (hamstring) heading into Week 3 against the Rams, but Coleman would be a must-start Fantasy option if both were out. Harvey missed Week 2 against Jacksonville, and Dobbins was injured against the Jaguars. Coleman stepped up with 10 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown and three catches for 19 yards on three targets. It doesn't appear that Dobbins will be out for an extended period of time and could play against the Rams, but we don't know about Harvey. It's worth speculating on Coleman, given his upside, and he should be added in all leagues for at least 15 percent of your remaining FAAB.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Plays expanded role in win
Rotowire
Coleman rushed 10 times for 39 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for 19 yards in the Broncos' 20-13 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
RJ Harvey (hamstring) was inactive and J.K. Dobbins exited the game with a hamstring injury of his own, opening the door for Coleman to enjoy an expanded role in his only his second NFL regular-season game. The rookie fourth-round pick also scored what turned out to be game-winning touchdown on a three-yard run just past the midway point of the fourth quarter, and he could be in line for a robust workload once again in a Week 3 interconference matchup against the Rams next Sunday night if either or both of Harvey and Dobbins are unavailable.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Four touches in preseason loss
Rotowire
Coleman turned three carries into nine yards and added a catch for minus-2 yards during the Broncos' 33-13 preseason loss to the Packers on Friday.
Coleman was the second Broncos running back in the game after RJ Harvey, with J.K. Dobbins observing Friday's exhibition contest from the sidelines. Coleman, a fourth-round selection of the Broncos in the 2026 NFL Draft, is pushing for a rotational role in the backfield with Dobbins and Harvey, though Coleman may see most of his playing time as a contributor on special teams. The Broncos will wrap up their preseason slate this Friday against the Vikings.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Pushing for role in Denver backfield
Rotowire
Coleman is trending toward being a real part of a Denver running back rotation that also includes J.K. Dobbins (undisclosed) and RJ Harvey, according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post.
Coleman, who logged 14 snaps en route to carrying four times for 24 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons, has drawn very positive reviews from coach Sean Payton, per Gabriel. On that topic, Payton noted that the 2026 fourth-rounder -- who is listed at 5-foot-8, 220 pounds -- has good balance and short-area quickness and is a "real good elusive runner for his size." As long as Dobbins and Harvey are healthy and available, steady volume may be hard to come by for Coleman, but the rookie back still has a chance to carve out a change-of-pace role early on, and perhaps more down the road if injuries hit Denver's backfield.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Four carries in first taste of NFL
Rotowire
Coleman rushed four times for 24 yards in Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Falcons.
Coleman was the second running back into the game for Denver after RJ Harvey while veteran J.K. Dobbins (undisclosed) sat out Friday's preseason opener. Denver's rookie fourth-round pick is likely to begin his career as third on the team's running back depth chart behind Dobbins and Harvey, though Tyler Badie, Jaleel McLaughlin and Cody Schrader will try to work their way into the conversation during the preseason, which will continue for the Broncos next Friday against the Packers.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Praised by Payton for standout camp
Rotowire
Broncos coach Sean Payton named Coleman as one of the team's pleasant surprises at training camp so far, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
When asked Wednesday about pleasant surprises at camp, Payton began his answer with Coleman's name. The coach even said that Coleman "doesn't feel like a rookie," per Troy Renck of Denver 7 News. Then again, Payton has also made glowing comments about RB J.K. Dobbins and half of the wide receivers on the camp roster. A rookie fourth-round pick, Coleman is perhaps making his case to force a three-way backfield split with Dobbins and RJ Harvey.

Broncos' Jonah Coleman: Welcomed by Denver
Rotowire
The Broncos selected Coleman in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 108th overall.
Coleman is a bruising running back at 5-foot-8, 220 pounds. He led Washington in rushing in each of his final two seasons, combining for 1,811 yards (5.2 YPC) and 25 touchdowns while adding 54 receptions for 531 yards and two scores through 25 games. Coleman is quick but he isn't fast, and he produced more than 10 yards on just 20 of his 156 carries as a senior. He didn't run the 40-yard dash this spring, either. Still, players like Coleman have clear NFL utility, especially if they can catch passes. The 22-year-old can block in the pocket and run routes in the open field, so he projects as a potential short-yardage back who will chip in on passing downs as well. Coleman will battle Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie for a role behind J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey in 2026.
