Darren Collison and the Los Angeles Lakers have been flirting for what feels like years. They finally hooked up on a 10-day contract earlier this season as rosters around the league were decimated from COVID, but at the conclusion of those 10 days, Collison was out.
Now he's back. Sort of. Collison has signed with the Lakers' G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, per Shams Charania of The Athletic, and he has his eyes on a call-up to an NBA team.
As desperate as the Lakers seem, it's highly unlikely that Collison will get a call-up. D.J. Augustin got the last roster spot, which the Lakers created by waiving DeAndre Jordan, and Augustin has provided some decent production over the last three weeks. He had 20 points in L.A.'s win over the Cavaliers on Monday.
But hey, you never know. Collison still has the itch to play, and maybe he'll get a G League ring out of the deal.
