Nick Avila: Cut loose by Baltimore
The Orioles released Avila on Monday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Avila had been removed from the 40-man roster last week and will now leave the organization altogether after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 27-year-old posted an 8.49 ERA over 11.2 innings earlier this season with the Giants, although that came with a strong 14:3 K:BB.

Orioles' Nick Avila: Returns to action at Triple-A
Triple-A Norfolk reinstated Avila (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.
The Orioles claimed Avila off waivers from the Giants on June 17, but he was immediately placed on Norfolk's IL due to an injury that dated back to his time with the San Francisco organization. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment July 21 with High-A Aberdeen, and after making six appearances with the affiliate, Avila rejoined Norfolk last week. Avila has had a rough go in his first three outings with Norfolk, recording just four outs while allowing 10 earned runs on nine hits and three walks.

Orioles' Nick Avila: Moves off 40-man roster
The Orioles designated Avila for assignment Wednesday.
Baltimore claimed Avila off waivers from San Francisco on June 17, but he spent much of the past two months on Triple-A Norfolk's injured list before returning to action for the Orioles' International League affiliate last week. He was lit up over his three relief appearances for Norfolk, giving up 10 earned runs over just 1.1 innings before the Orioles moved him off their 40-man roster. Avila is expected to clear waivers and will most likely stick around in the organization as a bullpen arm at Norfolk.

Orioles' Nick Avila: Claimed by O's, sent to Triple-A
Avila (undisclosed) was claimed off release waivers by the Orioles before being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk and placed on the 7-day injured list Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Avila was dropped from the Giants' 40-man roster Sunday, but it didn't take him long to find a new suitor. The right-hander has been out since May 31 while nursing an unspecified injury, but he will now account for the final slot on Baltimore's 40-man roster. Avila struggled to a 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 11.2 innings in eight appearances with San Francisco, so he'll likely have to prove himself at Norfolk before the Orioles potentially call him up to the majors.

Nick Avila: Cut by Giants
The Giants released Avila (undisclosed) on Sunday.
Avila will cede his spot on the Giants' 40-man roster to right-hander Spencer Bivens, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento. Rather than designating Avila for assignment and waiting for the waiver process to play out, the Giants will part ways with the 26-year-old right-hander and allow him to get a head start on finding his next organization. Avila had posted an 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over his 11.2 innings with the Giants this season and hadn't performed much better for Sacramento (6.75 ERA, 1.21 WHIP in 9.1 innings) before landing on the club's 7-day injured list May 31 with an unspecified injury.

Giants' Nick Avila: Grabs first win
Avila (1-0) allowed a run on one hit and one walk while striking out four over two innings to earn the win Friday over the Mets.
Another big comeback from the Giants in the eighth inning put Avila in line for his first major-league win after he pitched the sixth and seventh. It's a positive moment in a season that's had few of them for the rookie right-hander. Avila has been scored on in all but one of his appearances, posting an 8.49 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB over 11.2 innings in a low-leverage role. He's filling the roster spot of Blake Snell (personal), who is expected to return from the paternity list early next week, at which point Avila is among the candidates to be optioned out.

Giants' Nick Avila: Back in majors
The Giants recalled Avila from Double-A Richmond on Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Avila was optioned Wednesday but will return to the 26-man active roster one day later to replace lefty Blake Snell (personal), who was placed on the paternity list. Manager Bob Melvin will have another relief option at his disposal while Avila is with the big club, but the 26-year-old will likely be sent to Triple-A Sacramento once Snell rejoins the team.

Giants' Nick Avila: Demoted to minors
The Giants optioned Avila to Double-A Richmond on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Avila is being sent to Richmond rather than Triple-A Sacramento because the Giants are on the East Coast and may need to recall Avila if Blake Snell goes on the paternity list. The reliever holds a 9.31 ERA over 9.2 innings with the Giants this season.

Giants' Nick Avila: Returns to Giants
Avila returned to the Giants on Tuesday after the White Sox omitted him from the 26-man roster, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The White Sox selected Avila in the Rule 5 Draft in December after he posted a 1.14 ERA in 55.1 minor-league relief innings last season. Avila didn't see any action in spring training, though, and will return to the Giants' minor-league system.

Avila was a 26th-round pick by the Giants in 2019 and will now have a chance in the big leagues for Chicago. The right-hander split the 2022 campaign between the High-A and Double-A levels, and he had a 1.14 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 58:14 K:BB across 55.1 innings.
