The Giants defeated the Padres in walk-off fashion on Wednesday afternoon. But before the Giants secured the win, they suffered a loss.
First baseman Brandon Belt exited the game following an ugly slide. Here's the image, for those willing and able to stomach seeing limbs bent in unusual ways:
The good news for the Giants is that Belt didn't break anything. Rather, it appears that Belt suffered a gnarly-looking ankle sprain and little else:
In the coming days, the Giants will have to decide whether Belt requires time on the disabled list. Until then, expect Bruce Bochy to use some combination of Buster Posey and Conor Gillaspie at first base. Who knows, we might see Kelby Tomlinson get his first professional look at the cold corner, too.
Belt entered Wednesday hitting .281/.411/.451, and his 136 OPS+ was tied for the best on the Giants.
