The 2022 WM Phoenix Open begins on Thursday with the first tee times coming at 9:15 a.m. ET, and with massive crowds creating the PGA Tour's most raucous environments, it's a tournament unlike any other on tour. The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale will welcome one of the strongest PGA Tour fields of the early season. The 2022 WM Phoenix Open field will include six of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, including world No. 1 Jon Rahm.

Rahm played collegiately at Arizona State, so he'll have a home-crowd advantage and is listed as the 15-2 favorite in the 2022 WM Phoenix Open odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Justin Thomas (14-1), Viktor Hovland (16-1) and Patrick Cantlay (16-1) are also near the top of the PGA Tour odds board for the week. Before locking in your 2022 WM Phoenix Open picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it's up almost $10,000 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure's best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. In addition, McClure's model was all over Jon Rahm's (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the WM Phoenix Open 2022 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 WM Phoenix Open leaderboard.

The model's top 2022 WM Phoenix Open predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open: Hideki Matsuyama, a two-time champion of this event and one of the top favorites, stumbles and doesn't even crack the top-five. The 29-year-old has already secured two victories this season, finishing on top of the leaderboard at the Zozo Championship and Sony Open. He's also finished inside the top-15 in three of his last four starts.

However, Matsuyama has struggled mightily with his putter this season, ranking 183rd in strokes gained: putting (-.452), 139th in total putting (256.1) and 104th in overall putting average (1.605). In addition, Matsuyama failed to crack the top-40 at this event last year, which doesn't bode well for his chances to win this week. He's not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the WM Phoenix Open 2022 field.

Another surprise: Brooks Koepka, a 35-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than the odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a big payday. The 31-year-old is a four-time major champion and he's the defending champion at the Phoenix Open.

Koepka bested Xander Schauffele and Lee Kyoung-hoon to capture the victory at TPC Scottsdale last year, and it's been his only win since the summer of 2019. He's now a two-time champion of the WM Phoenix Open, having captured his first career PGA Tour victory in the event in 2015 with a one-shot win over Matsuyama, Ryan Palmer and Bubba Watson. Koepka has slipped to No. 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but he'll have a chance to begin climbing again at a venue he's had incredible success in.
