McDermott started five games at left tackle for the Patriots in 2023, but after adding Chukwuma Okorafor in free agency, New England has opted to let go of McDermott, who presumably is past the head injury that landed him on IR late last season, given that he was cut without an injury designation. The Patriots signed McDermott off the practice squad Saturday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. The move corresponds with New England waiving quarterback Will Grier. McDermott joined the Patriots' practice squad Oct. 17 after reaching an injury settlement with the team Sept. 8.
