Wilson (back) was returned from his rehab assignment Sunday due to right shoulder impingement syndrome, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Wilson was originally forced to the injured list in mid-August due to a lower-back strain. He appeared to be on closing in on a return, having made eight appearances during his rehab stint with Triple-A Charlotte, but the shoulder impingement will bring an early end to his campaign. Wilson posted a 5.71 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 34:26 K:BB over 34.2 innings in his first season with the White Sox.
