Coach Rick Carlisle said Tuesday that Mathurin (shoulder) is way ahead of schedule on his post-surgery recovery, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports. Mathurin's productive sophomore season was cut short due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The 21-year-old averaged 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 26.1 minutes across 59 games. This progress bodes well for the Pacers and Mathurin, as he's on track to make a full recovery before the start of the 2024-25 season.... See More ... See Less

Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Undergoing season-ending surgery
Mathurin is slated to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. This is a tough blow for both the Pacers and Mathurin, who was originally just looking at a few games on the sideline before this diagnosis. With Indiana trading Buddy Hield prior to the deadline, the second-year sharpshooter was expected to see a bigger role for the remainder of the season. Now, the team will rely on Andrew Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith on the wing, while Doug McDermott (calf), Ben Sheppard and Jarace Walker will be reserve options. Mathurin is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Out next three games
Head coach Rick Carlisle said Thursday that Mathurin (shoulder) will miss the Pacers' next three games, Tony East of SI.com reports. Mathurin had already been ruled out for Thursday's game versus the Timberwolves due to a right shoulder sprain, but he'll also sit out games Sunday in Orlando and Tuesday in Oklahoma City before the Pacers re-evaluate him following the brief road trip. With Doug McDermott (calf) also out Thursday and uncertain to play during the two-game road trip, rookie Ben Sheppard should be in store for an expanded profile on the Pacers' second unit.... Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Ruled out for Thursday
Mathurin has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Timberwolves due to a right shoulder sprain. Mathurin played through a foot issue Tuesday and posted 19 points (7-16 FG) in 25 minutes during a win over Dallas. However, he's now dealing with a shoulder issue and will miss at least one game. His next chance to suit up will come Sunday in Orlando, while Ben Sheppard is a candidate for an increased bench role versus Minnesota, especially with Doug McDermott (calf) still out.... Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Cleared to play
Mathurin (foot) is available for Tuesday's game against the Mavericks. Aaron Nesmith (quad) and Ben Sheppard (illness) are also available for Indiana. Mathurin has been cold over his last three appearances, hitting 34.3 percent of his shots from the field.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Added to injury report
Mathurin is questionable for Tuesday's game against Dallas due to left foot soreness. Mathurin joins Aaron Nesmith (quad) and Ben Sheppard (illness) as questionable for Tuesday's game. Nesmith participated in shootaround, but Indiana is nonetheless at risk of being shorthanded on the wings against a formidable offense Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Back to bench
Mathurin will return to a reserve role for Friday's game against the Pelicans, Mathurin will come off the bench in favor of Aaron Nesmith, who is returning from a four-game absence. This move comes after Mathurin's huge performance in Monday's 130-122 loss to Toronto when he tallied 34 points (11-15 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 7-9 FT), nine rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals in 39 minutes. The second-year wing still figures to see a considerable role off the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Delivers huge performance
Mathurin notched 34 points (11-15 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 7-9 FT), nine rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals in 39 minutes during Monday's 130-122 loss to Toronto. Mathurin showcased alluring three-level scoring Monday, matching his season high in scoring en route to his fourth game of the year with 30-plus points. It has been rare for Mathurin to blend a hot shooting night with free-throw drawing prowess, but he has the ability to do so as a gifted athlete with supreme confidence.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Stuffs stat sheet in win Sunday
Mathurin recorded 14 points (5-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals across 33 minutes during Sunday's 133-111 victory over the Mavericks. Mathurin has been arguably more productive off the bench than in a starting role throughout the better part of his first two years in the league, but he's been quite good over his last two starts, putting up solid numbers while filling out the stat sheet. Mathurin should remain in a starting role when the Pacers take on the Raptors on Monday, as Aaron Nesmith (ankle) remains out, and the former's fantasy upside should move in the right direction if he can continue to deliver these performances on both ends of the court going forward.... Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Positive contribution in spot start
Mathurin registered 15 points (5-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal over 35 minutes during Thursday's 129-115 victory over the Pistons. With Aaron Nesmith sidelined due to a lower leg injury, Mathurin was inserted into the starting lineup Thursday. Mathurin wasn't efficient with his shot but was able to contribute in other ways and bounced back nicely from his zero-point performance against the Hornets on Feb. 12. He should reprise his bench role once Nesmith returns to action, though it's unclear when that'll be.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Starting against Detroit
Mathurin is in the starting lineup to face the Pistons on Thursday. Mathurin has seen most of his minutes off the bench this season, as he's far from productive when playing with the second unit, but he'll get the nod here since Aaron Nesmith (lower leg) is out. Mathurin is averaging 14.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game when deployed in a starting role this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Shines in Rising Stars event
Mathurin (knee/illness) claimed Rising Stars MVP honors Friday after scoring four points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and adding two assists and one steal in 7:20 of court time in Team Jalen's 26-13 win over Team Detlef in the final. Team Jalen relied on a more balanced scoring effort to clinch the win in the finale, but Mathurin did more of the heavy lifting in a 40-35 win over Team Tamika in the semifinal earlier Friday, pouring in 18 points (7-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-5 FT) to go with two rebounds over 13 minutes. Mathurin had missed the Pacers' final game before the All-Star break Wednesday in Toronto due to a bruised right knee and an illness, but his ability to compete in two abbreviated exhibitions Friday as well as the hometown Team Pacers' win Saturday in the skills challenge implies that he'll be good to go when Indiana returns to action Feb. 22 versus the Pistons.... Mathurin will miss Indiana's final game heading into the All-Star break, giving him a full week to rest up until the Pacers' next game Feb. 22 versus the Pistons. Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Fading significantly
Mathurin finished Monday's 111-102 loss to the Hornets with zero points (0-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes. Mathurin found no rhythm and was scarcely incorporated into the offense Monday. Across three games since the exodus of Buddy Hield to Philadelphia, Mathurin has combined for 15 points on 4-for-21 shooting. Mathurin can boom on any given night, but he may be the odd man out in Indiana.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Available for Thursday
Mathurin (illness) will be available to play Thursday against the Warriors. Mathurin will return from a one-game absence, which will likely result in fewer minutes for Ben Sheppard. Mathurin may have gotten a little boost at the trade deadline with the departure of Buddy Hield, so it'll be interesting to see if he's more aggressive in the second unit moving forward.... Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Iffy against Golden State
Mathurin (illness) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game versus the Warriors. Mathurin is in danger of missing his second straight game Thursday due to a stomach ailment. If Mathurin is ultimately ruled out, Andrew Nembhard, Buddy Hield and Ben Sheppard should continue to receive increased playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Ruled out Tuesday
Mathurin (illness) will not play Tuesday versus Houston, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports. Mathurin will be sidelined due to a stomach ailment. Mathurin has come off the bench for seven of his past eight appearances, but his void will likely be filled by extra usage for Andrew Nembhard, Buddy Hield and Ben Sheppard.... See More ... Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Coming off bench
Mathurin isn't starting Sunday's game against the Hornets. Mathurin has been cleared to suit up for a second consecutive game Sunday, but he'll retreat to the bench after joining the starting lineup for Friday's loss to Sacramento. Over 33 bench appearances this year, he's averaged 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 26.4 minutes per game.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Questionable against Hornets
Mathurin is questionable to face the Hornets on Sunday due to a right toe sprain. Mathurin has been battling a toe issue since the end of January, missing two games as a result. However, he was able to play 37 minutes Friday against the Kings and erupted for 31 points (10-14 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 9-10 FT), five rebounds, four assists and two steals.... See More ... See Less -
Pacers' Bennedict Mathurin: Leads all scorers in loss
Mathurin had 31 points (10-14 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 9-10 FT), five rebounds, four assists and two steals across 37 minutes during Friday's 133-122 loss to Sacramento. Mathurin moved back into the starting lineup, leading all scorers with 31 points in 37 minutes. The Pacers made several changes to their opening unit, with Mathurin joined by T.J. McConnell and Isaiah Jackson. It is unclear whether Mathurin will stick as a starter moving forward, but given his ability to be a high-volume scorer, he is worth grabbing if he was dropped in your league.... See More ...
