Blue Jays' Yariel Rodriguez: Throws off mound
Rodriguez (back) threw a bullpen session Monday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
He's slated for another bullpen session in the coming days and might be ready for a rehab assignment after that as he recovers from thoracic spine inflammation. Rodriguez had been starting for the Blue Jays before going on the 15-day injured list, but it's uncertain if he'll reclaim his rotation spot from Alek Manoah by the time he's activated.

Rodriguez seems to be progressing well after being placed on the 15-day IL with thoracic spine inflammation April 30. While he'll be eligible to return May 14, it seems as though Rodriguez will need more time before being reinstated.

Rodriguez is experiencing back soreness after Monday's start against the Royals and is considered day-to-day, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Rodriguez's back issues flared up again following Monday's 3.2-inning start, a resurgence of an injury that bothered him throughout spring training. With his next scheduled start coming Sunday at Washington, Rodriguez will have some time to heal up. However, with Alek Manoah (shoulder) nearing a return and making what's likely to be his last rehab start Tuesday, the Blue Jays could push Rodriguez back to the bullpen and give Manoah the ball Sunday.

The Blue Jays placed Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with thoracic spine inflammation.
Rodriguez began experiencing soreness in his back following his start against the Royals on Monday. He was initially labeled as day-to-day Tuesday, but further evaluation resulted in a stint on the injured list being the recommended course of action. Zach Pop will come up from the minors to fill the void in Toronto's pitching staff, though it is unclear who will take Rodriguez's spot in the starting rotation.

Rodriguez struggled to get quick outs, getting pulled after 82 pitches without completing four innings. Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against Kansas City, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out two.
Rodriguez allowed more than one run for the first time in three starts this season and set a season low in strikeouts after tallying six and seven K's in his first two starts, respectively. While Rodriguez is expected to be pushed into a bullpen role upon the return of Alek Manoah (shoulder), he's been a serviceable fill-in rotation piece, owning a 3.86 ERA and a 15:5 K:BB over 11.2 innings.
