At least Winn was efficient in needing just 69 pitches while allowing eight baserunners and striking out seven. Otherwise, there wasn't much else good to glean from his start. He allowed five runs in the first two innings, then was pulled in the fifth after allowing a walk and a double, with both runners eventually coming in to score to leave him with a final line of seven runs allowed. The other positive is that Winn was able to return to the hill after landing on the IL with the dreaded forearm strain in mid-May. However, it was more of the same as he had allowed 17 runs in three starts spanning 8.1 innings prior to landing on the injured list. If Winn is able to maintain his spot in the rotation, his next start is tentatively slated to take place next weekend when the Giants host the Angels.

Winn (forearm) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Monday, and Giants manager Bob Melvin said that the right-hander could be available to start when his next turn in the rotation comes up, MLB.com reports.
The bullpen session was the second that Winn has thrown since he was diagnosed with a mild right forearm strain following his May 14 start against the Dodgers, before he was placed on the 15-day injured list three days later. The Giants haven't officially decided whether or not Winn will require a rehab assignment prior to being activated, and the club may wait and see how he's feeling over the weekend before making that call. If Winn is cleared to immediately rejoin the rotation, he would likely take the ball Monday or Tuesday in Arizona.

Winn actually carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, but things completely unraveled for him in that frame. The Rockies teed off on the right-hander for six straight hits -- including two doubles, a triple and a homer -- before he was able to record an out, with the damage resulting in six runs. Winn momentarily recovered to retire two batters before Charlie Blackmon ended his outing with another triple. Winn (3-4) took the loss Saturday in Philadelphia, allowing five runs on four hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch over just two-thirds of an inning.
In fairness to Winn, the weather in Philadelphia for this one was nasty and the right-hander never seemed comfortable. Granted, Ranger Suarez pitched in the same conditions and posted a quality start. Winn had been on a roll prior to this one, yielding exactly one run over six innings in each of his last three starts, so this could be just a little bump in the road. His next outing, unfortunately, is tentatively lined up to come at Coors Field.
