Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Athletics. Alvarez extended his hitting streak to six games, three of which have been multi-hit efforts. He also has five extra-base hits in that span, an important step forward in his production given his surprisingly low .192 ISO across 219 plate appearances to start the campaign.... See More ... Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Finds power in win
Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Angels. Alvarez went back-to-back with Kyle Tucker in the first inning for his first home run since May 9. After slumping a bit earlier this month, his bat has heated back up. Alvarez now has at least a hit in 10 of his last 12 games and is slashing .340/.404/.553 with three RBI, seven runs and a 5:11 BB:K over that span.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Receiving rest day
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Alvarez has a .646 OPS through 15 games in May and went 1-for-11 with five strikeouts over the past three contests. He'll sit after starting the first 44 games of the campaign. Yainer Diaz will serve as the designated hitter Friday while Victor Caratini starts behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Five-game hitting streak
Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a walk Monday against the Athletics. Alvarez extended his hitting streak to five games with the performance, which was his fourth multi-hit performance in that span. He's also scored four runs and driven in another two during the sample. The strong stretch has also brought his batting average up to .264 across 180 plate appearances on the season, and that mark should continue to rise as the campaign progresses.... See More ... Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Belts eighth homer
Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double in a 4-3 victory versus the Yankees on Thursday. Alvarez helped Houston get off to a quick start with his first-inning solo blast. He then knocked a double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Jeremy Pena single. Alvarez had been mired in a bad slump coming into Thursday, going 3-for-32 over his previous nine games since hitting two homers against Colorado on April 27. His season slash line of .245/.325/.448 remains well below his career norm.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Launches two massive homers
Alvarez went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during Saturday's 12-4 win against the Rockies. The Houston slugger busted out of a 5-for-25 slump Saturday with two homers that each went 461 feet. Alvarez is off to a bit of a slow start in 2024 with what would be a career-worst .867 OPS, but he's still been plenty productive with seven homers, 17 RBI and 18 runs through 27 games.... Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Smacks fifth homer
Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored Wednesday against Atlanta. Alvarez took lefty Max Fried deep in the first inning to tally his fifth homer of the season. He had been quiet with the bat in seven games prior, during which he tallied no extra-base hits and batted just .136. Overall, Alvarez's line looks quite similar to expectations, as he's maintained a .289 average and .526 slugging percentage across the first 88 plate appearances of the campaign.... See More ... Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Four hits versus Kansas City
Alvarez went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Royals. Alvarez ripped an RBI single off Cole Ragans in the top of the second inning, extending the Astros' lead to 2-0 before he later added an RBI double in the fourth frame extend Houston's advantage to 3-0. The left-hander has now secured at least one hit in six out of his last seven games, batting an eye-popping .517 with four homers, three doubles, 11 RBI and seven runs scored over that stretch.... Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Stays hot Monday
Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's win over the Rangers. Alvarez belted a two-run shot in the second inning and later knocked an RBI double in the fourth. He's gone deep in consecutive games and has four over his last five appearances. During that five-game stretch, he's gone 10-for-20 (.500) with nine RBI, raising his season OPS to .981.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Drills home run
Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over the Rangers. Alvarez was responsible for all of Houston's offense Sunday, belting a three-run shot in the third inning of the 3-1 victory. After a surprisingly poor start to the season -- he went 2-for-20 through the first five games -- the lefty slugger has gone 8-for-19 (.421) with three long balls over his last five contests. Alvarez owns an .854 OPS with six RBI and six runs scored on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Blasts two homers Wednesday
Alvarez went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-0 win against the Blue Jays. Alvarez came into the contest mired in a 3-for-24 slump to begin the season, but he turned things around in a big way Wednesday. The 26-year-old drilled a solo shot to center field in the third inning for his first homer of the campaign, added an RBI double in the fourth, then went deep with a second solo shot in the sixth. Alvarez is aiming for his fourth straight season of 30-plus homers after averaging 33.7 long balls over the previous three campaigns.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Early exit Monday was planned
Alvarez's early removal from Monday's Grapefruit League game versus the Marlins was planned and he is not injured, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. It seemed a bit odd that Alvarez was lifted after just two plate appearances, but evidently that was always the plan and he is fine, so fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief. Alvarez is 10-for-29 with one home run so far this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Exits early Monday
Alvarez left Monday's game against the Marlins earlier than anticipated, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. He fouled a ball off his foot Friday, although it was reported that he exited that game due to an allergic reaction. Alvarez returned to action Sunday and was in Monday's lineup for two at-bats before exiting. There should be an update on his status after the game.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Rejoins lineup Sunday
Alvarez (eye) is starting in left field and batting second in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Alvarez was removed from Friday's contest due to an allergic reaction in his left eye, but he's ready to return to game action a couple days later. Barring any additional issues, the 26-year-old slugger will be ready for Opening Day against the Yankees on March 28.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Foot not an issue
Alvarez was removed from Friday's Grapefruit League game due to an allergic reaction in his left eye, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Alvarez fouled a ball off his right foot during his lone at-bat Friday and left the game shortly afterward, but it appears his removal was due to an unrelated issue. Manager Joe Espada said Alvarez's eye won't require any extra medical attention, and the 26-year-old slugger should still be ready to go for Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Exits with possible injury
Alvarez left Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies early after fouling a ball off his right foot, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Alvarez initially remained in the game to finish his at-bat in the first inning but was replaced in left field by Jacob Melton to begin the second. Alvarez didn't appear to be in much pain as he walked back into the clubhouse, so his removal may only be precautionary.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Set to bat second
Manager Joe Espada said Sunday that he plans to bat Alvarez second this season, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Alvarez mostly hit out of the No. 3 hole last season and also has plenty of experience as Houston's cleanup hitter, but the new skipper wants to move him up the lineup. The change shouldn't significantly alter the slugger's run production but should benefit fantasy managers as it will lead to more plate appearances over the course of a full season.... See More ... Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Could play more in LF
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that he hopes to play Alvarez more in left field this season, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Alvarez made 40 starts in left field last season (versus 73 at designated hitter), but his playing time in left tapered off in the second half after he came back from an oblique injury. The slugger is still expected to be Houston's primary DH in 2024, but Espada also wants to use the spot occasionally to give other regulars a break from playing the field. One of Chas McCormick or Jake Meyers will likely be on the bench on days Alvarez plays left field.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Battling virus, but in lineup
Alvarez is dealing with a virus, but he's in the lineup Monday for Game 2 of the Astros' ALCS matchup with the Rangers, serving as Houston's designated hitter and cleanup batter, Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome of The Athletic report. According to the report, Alvarez is battling an upset stomach and has been dealing with headaches, but he looks set to play Monday at less than full strength. The slugger played through the illness in Sunday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and a weakly-hit grounder in the Astros' 2-0 loss in Game 1. For what it's worth, manager Dusty Baker said Monday that Alvarez is "better today than he was yesterday."... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Pummels another homer
Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Mariners. Alvarez's homer was his third in the last four games and his 31st of the year. The slugger's blast went to deep center field to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning. He's up to a .293/.409/.591 slash line with 97 RBI, 76 runs scored and 24 doubles through 111 contests this season.... See More ... See Less
