Rockies' Austin Gomber: Yields four runs in no-decision
Gomber did not factor into the decision in Friday's 8-5 loss to St. Louis, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.
A former Cardinal, Gomber was unsteady out the gate in his first outing at Busch Stadium since Aug. 18, 2022. The Colorado southpaw allowed three runs on four hits in the first inning and never recovered. Despite the four-run evening, Gomber has been surprisingly solid this year and now sports a 3.38 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 47:21 K:BB over 66.2 innings. He is slated to face the Twins on the road in his next start, when he'll be looking to pick up his second win of the season.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Surrenders two early homers
Gomber (1-3) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over three innings, taking the loss versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
Gomber dealt with general arm soreness earlier in the week, which caused him to have a start skipped. It doesn't appear to be a lingering issue, but he struggled Sunday, allowing home runs to Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman in the first inning. Gomber ended up needing 79 pitches (46 strikes) to get through three frames. He had posted a quality start in each his last four outings before Sunday's short start. The southpaw is at a 3.06 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 43:20 K:BB over 61.2 innings across 11 starts. Gomber is projected for a road start versus the Cardinals his next time out.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Starting Sunday
Gomber (arm) will start Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
General arm soreness caused Gomber to be scratched from his scheduled start Monday versus Cleveland, but he is now set to make his next outing during the weekend coming off plenty of rest. The 30-year-old southpaw has impressed early in the year with a 2.76 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 58.2 innings through his first 10 starts.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Scratched from Monday's start
Gomber has been scratched from Monday's start against the Guardians due to general arm soreness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Mmanager Bud Black implied that Gomber isn't dealing with an injury, and the decision to scratch the left-hander has more to do with the team wanting to hold him back for the team's upcoming series against the Dodgers this weekend. Anthony Molina will draw the start Monday for Colorado in what could be a bullpen day.

Gomber did not factor into the decision in a win over Oakland on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six over eight innings.
Gomber went 1-2-3 through Oakland's lineup in each of the first three innings before surrendering a solo homer to JJ Bleday in the bottom of the fourth. However, that would be the only run he'd allow while going eight innings for the first time this season. The lefty induced 12 whiffs on the night and didn't walk a batter for the first time in his last four starts. It also marked Gomber's fourth consecutive quality start, and he now carries a pristine 0.68 ERA in May.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Breaks into win column
Gomber (1-2) earned the win against San Diego on Wednesday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and walked two batters while striking out five.
The only two hits Gomber allowed were singles that the Padres couldn't cash in. The southpaw completed six innings for the fourth straight game and notched his third consecutive quality start. Wednesday's victory was his first of the campaign, but it was overdue based on how he's been pitching of late. Over his past three outings, Gomber has allowed just one earned run across 18.2 frames despite a mediocre 13:6 K:BB.

Gomber allowed four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Pirates on Saturday. He struck out three.
Gomber matched zeros with rookie phenom Jared Jones through six frames in a game that wasn't decided until the bottom of the ninth when Jack Suwinski broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single. Gomber was far less dominant than Jones from a swing-and-miss standpoint with eight whiffs to Jones' 17. Still, it was a quality start, Gomber's second in seven turns this season. He lines up for a tough home start against the Rangers his next time out and should still be handled with extreme caution despite his quality surface stats (3.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) to date.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Coughs up three home runs
Gomber (0-2) yielded four runs on six hits over seven innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Astros.
While Sunday's contest wasn't at Coors Field, it certainly played like a regular home game for Gomber. Houston took him deep three times, though all were solo shots. On the bright side, he retired 11 of the last 12 batters he faced despite forcing only four swinging strikes on 79 pitches. Gomber will carry a 4.50 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up to be in Pittsburgh next weekend.

Gomber (0-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four over 5.1 innings.
After allowing a two-run homer to J.T. Realmuto in the first inning, Gomber rebounded to keep Philly off the board until Bryce Harper's RBI double in the sixth. However, the Rockies couldn't get anything going off Ranger Suarez, sticking Gomber with a 5-0 loss, his first of the season. The left-hander sports a 4.95 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB through his first four starts (20 innings) this season. Gomber's currently on track to face the Padres at home in his next outing.

The 30-year-old lefty produced his first quality start of the season, no mean feat at Coors Field, and exited the game after 98 pitches (61 strikes) in line for his first win of the season. The Rockies' bullpen couldn't seal the deal, however. Gomber came away with a no-decision in Friday's 10-7 win over the Rays, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out seven.
The southpaw ran up high pitch counts in the first couple innings but was able to limit the damage, eventually hitting the showers after 89 pitches (57 strikes). Gomber has a 6.23 ERA and 10:6 K:BB through his first 8.2 innings this season, and he'll need to rein in the walks if he's going to be a streaming option even away from Coors Field. Rockies' Austin Gomber: Can't go deep enough for win
Gomber allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Arizona on Saturday.
The Rockies scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to give Gomber a 7-3 lead, but he couldn't get through the bottom of the frame, giving up a two-run homer to Lourdes Gurriel followed by a walk before he was pulled. The inability to remain in the game long enough to qualify for a victory compounded an overall poor start by the southpaw, as he walked as many batters as he struck out and tossed a laborious 91 pitches. Gomber posted a 5.53 ERA over his previous two campaigns and finished with a 5.6 K/9 last season, so he's not someone fantasy managers are likely to have on their radar.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Making spring debut Wednesday
Gomber (back) is slated to start Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Angels, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
He's expected to work two innings before turning the game over to a cadre of relievers. Gomber didn't make any appearances after Aug. 28 last season due to lower-back inflammation, but he seems to have received a clean bill of health heading into spring training. After agreeing to a one-year, $3.15 million deal with the Rockies in the offseason to avoid arbitration, Gomber's rotation spot should be fairly secure heading into Opening Day.

Rockies' Austin Gomber: Settles at $3.15 million
Gomber (back) signed a one-year, $3.15 million contract with the Rockies on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Gomber finished 2023 with a 5.50 ERA and 1.49 WHIP through 139 innings, but his numbers became much more respectable when pitching away from Coors Field (3.68 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 63.2 frames). The 30-year-old southpaw missed the final month of the season due to back inflammation, and the Rockies have yet to offer an update on his status during the offseason.
